"Express Pass"

I'm on the fence whether it was a good move on the part of Gary & Mallory to use the Express Pass last leg. They weren't so far behind that they needed to use it to save themselves and I think Gary could have completed the task before several of the other teams. He could have at least attempted the task and if it seemed like they would fall behind just stop and use it then.
That way they could have saved it for the future when a bad cab driver or poor directions leave them far behind.

I had mixed emotions about that, too. As soon as they saw everyone's problems with the dino's, they decided it was 'time' to use the express. BUT, what if they are stuck somewhere, in the next to last, or last leg of this race, and truly need this pass? Boy, will they have major regrets!!

Especially now, that they have given up $5K to the Cowboys (each), because they didn't even have the luxury of coming in first. I think they are going to regret this down the line. I really believe Gary could have put that thing together quicker than most of the women did.

If you look at the men, they all did it much faster than any of the women. Could have been that running 2 legs together had them totally spent, and in that case, I understand a 60-something y/o saying, 'forget it', let's do it now!

I was happy they used it because my Casino bet needed them to come in 2nd.

I think they used it more out of panic than anything else. They had had a bit of a rough day, combined with the Super Leg. It was probably good for them to use it because it seemed to calm them down and reset them. This is the first time I ever recall seeing Mallory as frustrated as she was last night - to the point of raising her voice to a cab driver.

I think, given their state of mind at that point, further panic would have set it. It would be nice to have it later on, but they're also not going home with it in their pocket.

Gary/Mallory knew they were in last place as they approached what was likely the last challenge of the leg. They quickly decided to use the Superpass (and not spending time debating what to do or first trying to solve the puzzle) and that decision moved them from the brink of elimination to the brink of a $10,000 prize for finishing the leg in first. This sounds like the best example of decision making by a TAR team in my memory

I agree totally. To me it seemed like a rare situation, where you know for sure you are in last, and can jump all the way to first using the pass. They should have ended up winning the leg, but such is life. Also, the task was clearly a long, physically demanding task. Completely skipping it is likely to pay dividends in the future as they wont have as much overall fatigue as the other teams that did it. Sure they could've waited and seen how it was, but they'd have lost any chance at getting first place, and with the luck they'd been having they were probably worried that they'd start, have a few ppl finish, decide to use the pass, and end up having their cab get lost or something and end up losing anyways .

Given the situation (arriving last at a task which was challenging everyone who was doing it), I can't argue with the logic of Gary/Mallory using the Express Pass. The fact that Gary/Mallory didn't finish first after using it only reinforces my impression that they were way behind and in danger of Philimination.

I'm with you. I don't think it was a terrible choice. But the fact that ALL of the teams were still there would make me at least want to attempt it. Then if three or four teams quickly left they could go ahead and use it. But the cowboys went from fifth to first on that task, so Gary could definitely have made up some time, especially on a task that seemed well suited to him.

They were probably drained from racing in a mountainous area, so Gary may well have thought it would be better to be safe than sorry. Besides, he's in his sixties.
