"Super Leg = New variation of the NEL?"

Posted by vince3 on 03-14-11 at 11:06 AM
In previous seasons, Super Legs have been legs in which it takes two episodes to resolve, mainly in which at the point the teams are about to hit a Pit Stop, they get a clue that refreshes their money supply and tells them that they're still racing and to GO GO GO! A few times, they've even went to the trouble of having Phil fake them out by having them hit a Pit Stop Finish Mat before the boom gets lowered by them...

Previously when the latter occurred, though, Phil didn't award a prize to the first team to see him... He just sent them back on their way. This year, Gary/Mallory won the Express Pass on the beach in Australia before being told to move along... multiple times, in fact. Last night, in China, Margie/Luke got the joy of winning a trip to Aruba, with lots of fun activities... only to then be told that they're still racing...

We haven't had what is normally a NEL yet, which is everyone logs in at the Pit Stop and then whoever's in last would have to deal with a penalty of some sort. For a while, it was nothing. Then came the Phil robbery (First it was all money on hand, and then it became whatever you're wearing at check-in, plus a bag for documents, is all you have for the rest of the Race...) After that came 'Marked for Elimination' in which you either finished in first or had to wait 30 minutes before checking in. Finally they came up with the Speed Bump, which was an extra task for that last place team... An extra task that could either be ridiculously easy, or up to a mild to moderate inconvenience...

We're approaching borderline coincidence with this, any thoughts?

One more without a standard Phil penalty and it's officially the new NEL. Two Superlegs on a course is a rare enough event: three would be unprecedented.

I like these Super Legs, they seem to be making the race flow really well, tired teams mean great TV!

the reactions when Phil tells the teams they are still racing are priceless. I was never a fan of the Superleg until now. How evil

And I think you may be right, vince-the Superleg is the new NEL.
