"Problems Calling in Last Night"

Posted by JonathanI on 10-29-02 at 11:12 AM
Did anyone one else have the same problem I had last night? I figured out the code and called in. The voice on the other end of the line said, “Congratulations. You have solved the mystery of Push, Nevada…blah, blah, blah…” Then the voice went on to explain all the rules to me. It said I would need to leave my name, a phone number where I could be reached in the next 72 hours, and alternate phone number, etc. So, I left my name, and the voice played back my voice saying my name to me and then it said something like, “If this is correct, say, ‘Yes.’ If not, say, ‘No.’ Sorry we could not understand your answer.” It hardly even gave me time to answer! Well, it gave me another shot and I kept saying ‘Yes’ into the phone, but it told me again that it did not hear me. Then the voice told me if it did not get an answer I would be disqualified from the contest. I was thinking, “I didn’t come this far to make it to the final 25 people to lose because some stupid machine can’t hear me saying ‘Yes’!” I finally got past the name part of the call and made it to the first phone number. This one went the same way until the voice said something like, “Please hold while we connect you to a live operator.” At this point I thought everything was fine. After about half-an-hour of waiting, my wife called the number on my cell phone and got the message I’m sure many of you heard dealing with the fact that they already had enough participants, and I was still on hold. So I waited, and waited, and waited. After almost exactly one hour, the voice came on and gave me the message that said they had enough participants, and it hung up! Is this some kind of sick joke?! Did I lose on a technicality?! Did anyone else have this happen? I couldn’t believe it. After being on hold for an hour, they hung up on me because their stupid machine couldn’t understand my voice, is what it feels like. Now, how hard would it be to get one person to answer a total of 25 phone calls? That’s all it would have taken!

Does anyone have any similar stories from last night?

Oh Johnny, you are going to get in heck with Bebo for making a duplcate thread. I just replied in the other post.

In the same vein...

Was I the only person who was completely out to lunch about the instructions last night? Once I figured out the clue and had the phone number I waited for more instructions. I thought that at half-time we would get our next set of instructions. I ended up only calling earlier than half-time because the curiousity was killing me! Imagine my surprise when they said the puzzle had already been solved.

I'm not too upset because I'm Canadian and have already been discriminated against (don't worry, I'm taking it to the UN...Kofi hasn't returned my call yet).

Since this has been posted in two spots, I'll just lock this one so that the discussion can continue on the other thread, instead of getting redundant.

Welcome to the forum, Jonathan.
