"Thank god for Dr. Stan"

He comes and and has a compassionate yet practical voice of reason. Notice how the women always feel relieved after speaking with him? WHY? Because there's not a bunch of hormones and fear and wonder flying around. Women need that! He says what needs to be said in a recievable way.

If scientists could somehow combine Dr Stan with Dr Phil, they would create my ideal father-figure.

Could it be that they don't feel like they have to be "competing" with Dr. Stan???

Being a man, they don't have to constantly compare themselves to him and compete with him.

I think there's a whole lot of competition going on in this year's house. Isn't that the real reason the whole house is on probation???

I think that Dr. Stan just has down to earth advise that they seem to understand much better than when they talk to their LC. He just sort of puts everything in black or white and they "get it". I think Dr. Stan is much better this year than last and the LC's are just wacko - especially Ilanya.

I love Iyanla but I keep having this blaring thought..."MENOPAUSE!"
Not that this is bad but....yes a noticable difference!
I wonder too if her integrity to the process is being challenged by the production side of the show.
????

Hey, thank you. You know, that never even occured to me. Maybe that's one of the reasons I like him as well. Women can be competitive, that's true- and I think a lot of times we don't even realize that that's what it is.

True, but I think it could very easily go the other way and some poor troubled woman could get a crush on him. Luckily that hasn't happened yet, that we have been shown anyway.

Oh goodness! In season one Teresa got drunk and hit on Brenda's date! And in season 2, Rachael had a big tiff with Renee and accused her of only wanting to be on the show to hook up with boys. I think competition is inevitable, for sure.

I agree! I love Dr. Stan. He is a wonderful coach and is soo.. compassionate and gives them great advice, and also seems very supportive and always in a good mood. Too bad Rhonda and IV aren't like that.

He is a valuable member of the therapeutic team but so are Rhonda and Iyanla.

He's the only reason I watch Starting Over now-this season sucks otherwise.

I love Dr. Stan, too ...

Rhonda and Iyanla are life coaches, not therapists ... Coaches are meant to inspire action and behavior changes in their charges, not delve into their psyches. They're not meant to go to the places Dr. S. goes ... That's why he's there ... To add the psychiatric element that was so desperately needed the first season.

There is something about Dr. Stan that extends far beyond simply the fact that he is a man and is therefore not competition for the women. He has a truly empathetic and calming aura ... He is a very, very safe sounding board. What a tremendous gift he has ... the intellect AND the compassion. If only all of psychiatry provided that balance.

I agree with all of you Dr. Stan is great. He has a calming effect on the HG's. I think all three, Dr. Stan, Rhonda and Iyanla have their hands full with these six women. JMO

I totally agree with you---this group of HGs seem to have some ideas of their own.

To me Dr. Stan is like a breath of fresh air everytime he walks in a room. This House has more than the usual drama between the woman and they need that.

The Heart Of A Mother, Is A Deep Abyss, At The Bottom Of Which You Will Always Find Forgiveness

You said it PERFECT~! If it wasn't for Dr. Stan and his kind soft spoken voice to the women, what would they have, Nothing but hatefulness from Rhonda! I won't say that about Iyanla though! She has a very special type of LOVE down in her heart and if you will listen carefully, you can hear her Hurt that comes from the bottom of her heart and she really does care VERY much for those women!

What I like about Dr. Stan is that he doesn't let the exercises get in the way of giving his advice, as a therapist. Remember when TJ had to be "plugged in" to anyone she was speaking to? When she was meeting him for the first time, she siad "Hi, can I plug in to you?" and he was like 'Whoa..I don't even know you' and he didn't let her "plug in". I liked that.
