"The Amazing Race Slot Machine."

And if you somehow manage to hit a jackpot, the pause for the slot attendant will simulate the thrill of sitting around for hours and waiting for the ticket counter to open!

TAR trails Survivor by a few years here: the not-so-friendly competition has had two different models of machine on casino floors, one of which was apparently thrown together in a 'get it out there before the craze wears off!' frenzy, with the other forcing you to root for multiple appearances by Jerri. But this machine sounds like it's superior in practically every way, starting with the sound design and finishing up with 'Hey, we already had a dumb luck search task built into the real thing!' Plus you can lose money at speeds some of EPMB's failed projects can only dream of. And with the programmed voice tracks, it'll feel like Phil is personally eliminating your cash! 'A Detour is a choice of two bankruptcies, both of which leave you completely penniless at the end.'

Now if only there was a way to U-Turn someone else's credit meter...

The next time I ride along with my casino-hopping friend, I'll see if I can find one to watch in action.

I admit that I'm not a regular casino player, so maybe I just don't get it. But it seems like a lot of bells and whistles just to play slots.

They've been trying for more of an immersive entertainment experience because if you're thinking about how much fun you're having, you're probably not considering how much cash you've lost. This one is admittedly near the high end of the distraction chart, but it's not occupying the pole position. (Do not sit down at a Top Gun machine if you have problems with unexpected vibration: do not stand within ten yards of it if you have an equal issue with the soundtrack.) Linking the machines into bonus banks allows friends to play together while under the false impression that they're somehow helping each other -- note that when one goes into a given type of Bonusland, they all go off. But it's all in the random number generator...

This one at least sounds like it could be fun to watch. And the show seems to have been a lot more involved with their machine that their rivals got with their own predecessors: Phil may have done voice and capture work (not to mention being the Wild symbol), but Jeff to date? No appearances. Probably because your money has to be a personal friend to someone in the casting department.

I actually played this game a few weeks ago at the Borgata in Atlantic City. They were installing them the morning we were leaving and we were disappointed we wouldn’t get to play them - but as we were getting ready to go we saw they were “live” and jumped on them.

The “digging” bonus was perhaps a little ill-conceived as many of the players didn’t realize the longer it took them to find the ticket (by digging in the sand on their touch screen) the smaller their bonus prize. Also, contrary to the video in Estees’ link that shows someone casually touching the screen to dig, in reality, people are pounding all over the touch screen to find their ticket. People pound on the video screens enough without being instructed to do so. These touch screens aren’t going to last very long I fear.

I never got the big group bonus where you get the free spins and go on the slot version of the Amazing Race. (We were at a bank of six machines that were broken into two groups but they were split into groups of 4 and 2. I was of course on a machine in the group of 2, considerably lowering my odds of getting the group Amazing Race bonus.) The other group of machines got this bonus several times while I was there and it looked quite fun and interesting.

If memory serves, I think I cashed out winning about $120 on this game. All in all, a fun game that I will definitely play again.

One thing that really surprised me though was that they installed this game right next to the new Sex and the City slots. And while people were waiting 3 people deep to get on the SATC machines, for the most part there was little wait for TAR machines. Having played them both I can say that the SATC game is nothing special and not as fun as TAR.
