"S18 Gufu Award: Week 10"

Kudos to byoffer!

The Gufu Award was established for pointing out the dangdumbest game moves in Survivor. Each week you have a designated number of votes you may award for Contestant Gufus! Except for Coach; Coach gets his own special Coach Gufus! Should you notice any gufus of dangdumbness for noncontestant stuff, these are Production Gufus, a separate category with its very own designated number of votes you may award. Should you wish to exceed your designated votes, these are Honorary Gufus.

This week you have four (4) Contestant votes, All You Can Eat (All You Can Eat) Coach votes, and two (2) Production votes.

First, though, let's kudo the kid in the prison stripes. True, Sierra was a pretty lousy player, and somehow managed to inspire all the others to despise her by being the victim of Maestro's propaganda campaign, but daggone it was good to see her stand up to Maestro and Bubbles and call them out, and good for her she held her head up and bowed out without crying.

Constestant #1: Sierra. On the other hand, way too emotional, she had the perfect opportunity to lead Maestro and Bubbles smack dab into a brick wall had she pretended to go along with them. That would have been the mother of all blindsides. Oh, well.

1. Bubbles
Everything was just fine and dandy and all peaches and cream as long as everything was going your way.
When things turned around? wham! all of a sudden the stress was just too much!!!!

2. Bubbles
Thinking Sierra would just be putty in your hands and return to the fold and do whatever benji wanted.

*pokes thread carefully with toe to make sure it's the right one*

Production #1: The immunity challenge was boring. Raking grappling hooks through dirt doesn't make for compelling television.

Production #2: The slam-your-tribemates challenge should have had more pointed questions. When even Coach calmly agrees he hasn't lived up to his potential, and Debby admits she wouldn't survive on her own, it means the questions were too puffball. Now, if they had asked the tribe for consensus on "who's the biggest liar?", that would have put a prickly burr up Coach's tailpipe.

Contestant #1 - Debby, for alternately pulling rank on Sierra ("I'm a 46-year-old professional woman!"), sobbing "I'm too old for this", and rudely ending the conversation when it didn't go her way (the same thing she took Sierra to task for last week). Who's going on 5, now?

Contestant #2 - Sierra could probably have saved herself by pretending to go along with the Timbira alliance, then convincing JT/Stephen/Taj/Erinn to target Debby. By forcing a dramatic confrontation with Coach and Debby in front of the others, she only cemented her reputation as a troublemaker and a loose cannon.

Contestant #3 - Stephen/JT/Taj should have taken out Debby before Sierra. Debby is far more manipulative and has a tight alliance with Coach. They could still cause trouble if they swing Erinn over.

Coach #1: For crowing about his IC victory to anyone who would listen. "Did you hear me say Dragonslayer?" Yes, Coach, we heard you. Bards will sing of your daring maze exploits for a thousand years.

Coach #2: If you're going to be sanctimonious and compare yourself to Biblical figures, then don't get the quotes wrong. (Jesus was actually the one who said "Forgive them, Father, for they know not what they do.")

The coconut chop aka slam your tribemates challenge is definitely a production gufu. Even Jeff says so in his blog. Says this will probably be the last season we see it. Thank goodness!

Here's my gufus for the week:

Contestant #1: Sierra (sad to say). She probably should've just gone along with the alliance Coach and Debbie offered and tried to blindside them. But she was too honest for her own good and they turned on her.

Contestant #2: J.T. and Stephen. They should've gone after Debbie and kept Sierra around.

Coach: Going around saying that he was the honorable one when he certainly wasn't? Hypocrite!
