Here is an idea I have been thinking about for a long time: when the first player opens their clue at the start of a leg, start a "stopwatch". When they flash from one team to another keep the clock accurate so we can judge how far apart other teams are.

Even in a long leg a digital clock can tick off the time of the leg. As the players hit the mat teh clock will let us know how far apart they are.

I doubt they would do that, they always like to edit things as if the last couple of teams are closer than they often are. With an accurate clock they would rarely be able to build any tension for the end of the show.
