"FAQ: How big can my Sig Pic be?"

Your entire signature should be limited to a height of 60 pixels... This is so that the threads stay somewhat tidy, and are more filled with content than with sig pics... Frankly, there's nothing worse than a reply consisting of one line of text, followed by 20 lines of signature.

Your signature may take one of the following forms:

Thank you for your help and cooperation in keeping the threads at this site content-rich and readable.

By The Way... here's an example of a 60-pixel image followed by a single line of text (maximum height allowed):

  • No more than four lines of regularly sized text
  • No more than six lines of text, with font size "1"
  • A graphic not to exceed a height of 60 pixels, followed by an optional single line of text (either regular size, or size "1", but NO LARGER)

Is 2 lines of font size=1 text, acceptable?

It would seem to me if one line of text=regular, should be equivalent to 2 lines of font size=1 text.

AyaK already said that more than 1 sigpic is acceptable as long as it is on the same line.

For example:

|=Unrepentant Hardcore Smiley ThiefIt is not necessary to acept everyting as true, one must only acept it as necessary. From Kafka's The Trial.

>Is 2 lines of font size=1
>text, acceptable?

Nope... one line of font size=2 (regular) is 15 pixels in height... two lines of font size=1 is 22 pixels in height...

If you choose to have a picture, you need to limit yourself to one line of text below it... Please note: one line of text BELOW a 60-pixel pic is already bending the rules.

Okay, sleeeve, here's my new sig, and a question.

Swami

Since my sig pic is only 39 pixels, can I add a line of text below it (whenever I feel so moved?) The 'S' in my name kind of hangs below the pic, which is just the font's style, and I don't know if that changes anything regarding the overall signature size.

Swami
Sleeeve is so kind to answer my dumb questions.

(Edited to take out some unnecessary words. But then my explanation of the edit took more words than I deleted. Sigh. Sometimes you just can't win!))

As mentioned in the first post in this thread, and in AyaK's post on OT, we have decided to approve a single line of (size 1 or 2) text below any sig pic, even if the sig pic is already 60 pixels.

So yes... the line of text will be absolutely fine

Also... your lizard sig pic would be easy to resize down to 60 pixels, if you decide that you want to use it again at some point in the future .

sleeeve,
I totally agree when you say:
>>Frankly, there's nothing worse than a reply consisting of one
>>line of text, followed by 20 lines of signature.

As I take your point and AyaK's point on OT (and what Webby has posted in the past)--the idea is to be able to get the NEW content from a post (and thus a thread) without a ton of scrolling.

Another type of post that defeats that purpose is one that consists mostly of copying the previous person's reply and adding a line or a word. Double the problem if one has to struggle to figure out what part is the old post and what is new.

Now I would certainly not say there should be RULES about this--it's a style preference--but I want to point it out and ask people to think first before they copy most of a post in their reply only to add a line--what a waste of space that is and how little it adds to the thread.

It seems to me that the whole usefulness of quoting back to someone is to single out a PORTION of what they said and reply specifically. Sometimes it's a great way to reply in sections to a whole post and thus create a real dialogue--especially when an argument is being addressed--as in Spoilers. Or use it to show what part of a humorous post you liked the most, as we all do.

But if your reply to the post above is fairly general--well, we just finished reading that post, so doubling it up on us is simply redundant and therefore irritating. IMHO.

Please, my friends, more NEW content--less repetition. I DO want to read your thoughts, but I need to be able to find them without a sifter.

But maybe I'm the only one who feels that way, so let me ask sleeeve: what do you and the Blue Men think about it?

Edited to increase redundancy and add more NEW but BORING words Nobody's perfect.

she's got everything she needs; she's 60 pixels and she don't look back

>But maybe I'm the only one
>who feels that way, so
>let me ask sleeeve: what
>do you and the Blue
>Men think about it?

Well... I can't speak for the rest of the blue men, because there is no policy on this, we've never discussed it, and I'm not a mind reader, so instead I'll speak for myself.

Basically, I agree with everything you say. There are definately times when quoting is much more effective... like when you wanna respond to a very particular part of someone's message, and not the message as a whole... but yes... it does get redundant to have to read the same thing again and again, unless it has a purpose.

And I definately agree that things that are quoted (from anywhere, but a previous message is a good example) should be made clear... both so that you don't get accused of plagarism, and to make your arguments/opinions/thoughts easier to follow.

This has been a rule since June of 2001... I'm just adding it officially to the Help Forum since there were a number of violations, recently.

How about an "honor system"? When a thread reaches a certain (undetermined) length, posters with large sigs need to edit/remove sig? Now that's complicated! Brain storm...it'll pass....Creative outlets deserve attention.

I'm trying to get the letters to type onto my logo (next to the typewriter, 'natch), and uploaded a Gif89a. Doesn't seem to work. Any help available?

And why does this have all the type when viewed on Windows machine, and none when viewed on the Mac? hmmmm....

"Your anim was not looping..."

It was cycling throught the animation only once and was finished by the time you could scroll down to see it.

Also, when you rendered the output, it was producing a white background instead of being transparent. I assume that you wanted a transparent background.

Fixed both issues with this version here:

Thanks,

"Opinions Please"
Posted by Jims02 on 03-12-03 at 10:42 PM
People have told me how much they like my quote sig, and I want to keep it going.

I need the board's opinion:

1. Should I erase Ep1's quote, and add Ep4's to stay within the boundaries?

2. Or should I just get rid of the two lines of "------" so I can have 6 quotes going at a time? The only reason why I have the ----- are to separate my post from the sig.

3. "Survivor is turning into Playboy At The Rainforest" -AMAI | Insert a quote here - Poster Name |

Hello, Ice Cat.

This is bobstew617. After 269 posts, I figured it might be nice to add a sig pic, but I need some help. I picked out a picture:

but I know it's too big and I would like my ID after it
(maybe in Brit-type lettering to match the flag)

Any help on this would be great.

"Pic size"
Posted by wendyp on 03-26-03 at 09:48 AM
In the guidelines about sig pics is says 60 pixels and If you choose to post a graphic in your signature, please limit the file size to 20 kb in order to reduce the time that it takes to load each page

Kyngsladye made my lovely sig pic.... I know it is 60 pixels, but how do I know if I am in the 20 kb limit?

Sorry not sure how to check and want to make sure I am within the rules.

"RE: Pic size"
Posted by Schnookie Palookie on 03-26-03 at 11:26 AM
Hi Wendy, I think you just have to check the file size in your Windows Explorer. I checked it for you and it looks like it's 41 kb. Mine is 82 kb (ouch).

IceCat ... am I right about the file size? If so, how can we make them fit the rules? I can't modify my sigpic because it's a .gif file.

Thanks.

Posted by IceCat on 03-26-03 at 02:18 PM
Sorry...

I tried tweaking the colors and dithering and couldn't get the file size below 20K. You'll have to get the person who made the original graphic to reduce the number of frames in the transitions and the color changes.

I'd do it myself but I do not like formically changing another persons work.
