IceCat's "Island" time

<The camera is focused on MakeItStop and slowly pans to the right and we see she is with IceCat.>

Good evening everyone. Today we are at Estevan Point on Vancouver Island with IceCat. Welcome IceCat, why did you want to be interviewed here on Vancouver Island?

It is my fondest wish to return to Vancouver Island as it is where I was raised and it is, by far, the most beautiful place that I have ever scene on earth. If I could retire to a quiet house on a remote part of the west coast of the island, I would be a very happy cat, indeed.

Yes, it is beautiful here, but it must get very cold here in the Winter. But I guess that would suit you, eh? How did you find SB and why did you stay?

During season 1, I heard about the Gervase fake spoiler and I actually noticed the faked tribal council scene on the night it was aired. I quickly went to an internet Survivor site (SS.com I think) and saw what was going on in their spoiling section. I didn't go back as I really didn't want to 'ruin the ending' by knowing anymore in advance.

At the beginning of season 2, I found the show was dragging a little so I decided to go to SS.com and try a little spoiling. On my very first post I mentioned that it seemed a shame that another person's thread had been locked because I thought they had a valid point. Without a word of warning my account was
terminated.

So I went in search of another Survivor site and found SB.com. My first post here was made on someone else's thread about a gift that Jerri had supposedly bought for her mom. Shakes the Clown was the resident newbie screener at the time and he took my post out for a mild flaming. I immediately beefed up
my reasoning and improved my wording and reposted, evidently meeting the Clown's quality control standards as his subsequent responses were less 'toasty'.

So I guess you stayed because Webby didn't delete your account. <snicker>
How did you come up with your screen name?

I have used this name online since 1994. I chose to it match my personality. I am both slow to anger or to warm up to people. It takes a great deal of time and effort to either get me mad or to get to know me. I suppose that makes me a colder personality and I suppose cats are like that too, hence 'IceCat'.

You're well known for your vidcap analysis and amazing sig pic abilities (hint, hint). How did you come to be so talented in these areas?

I am entirely self taught when it comes to graphics software and I don't exactly use the most sophisticated software, either. I use the free graphics program that comes with WordPerfect - (Corel Presentations) for my drawings and photo work. For the animated sig pics I take a series of drawings and link them together into a gif89 file using a program called GIF Construction Set (freeware).

Oh... stop the hinting:

<MakeItStop gives IceCat a big hug but IceCat remains aloof.>

I took 3 years of film school by attending night classes during the last four years of my military career but I don't think the film school training has helped out much with the graphics work. It does help out when doing close analysis of narrative stuff on the show.

You started on Spoilers. Is there one particular spoiler that you are especially proud of?

Well I'd have to say when I identified the log rolling challenge and the rope maze challenge back to back last season, I was very pleased. Truth be told, I am far more proud of the Seafaring Kangaroos Story. It was a good laugh and it got me an invite over to the 'Off Topic' board. I suspect that Webby asked the Off Topic people to approach me as he didn't want this crazy cat cluttering up his spoiler board with rambling fairy tales about soggy kangaroos and bamboo coffins.

You seem to be a very private person, but lately you've mentioned a few private details. First we learned that you have long hair. Your Blowsvivor luxury item was a scrunchy. Do you really tie back your hair IRL with a scrunchy?

I mentioned my long hair in a minor reference to the state of Amber's hair in the episode where Colby went to eat beans with the Aussie cowboys. Some people (in floppy red shoes) seized upon this one characteristic and it became the topic of sporadic conversation for weeks. At one point, someone (with a spiky head) was even trying to me associate with a website dedicated to the mullet.

The true reason why this person (with a red nose) had a hate on for long hair became evident when a certain sleazy reality TV show came on and this person (who owns a flame thrower) revealed that he did not get along well with one of his fellow contestants. This contestant (let's call him 'Bob') had long hair that was cut in a mullet-ish style. Bob was one of the contestants who was eliminated in the first round and it is my theory that, due to a weird idiosyncracy of the rules, 'Bob' returns in the last episode and defeats the mullet-obsessed person (who drives a small car with a key on the roof).

I believe that psychologists refer to this as 'transference'. The person (who can't dance) has localized their rage to a specific characteristic of 'Bob' (his long hair) and has since transferred this rage to a perfectly innocent third party (moi) who also happens to have had long hair.

Yes I said 'had'. I had it cut on the first of August. There is now a two foot long pony tail hanging on my bedroom wall. It was time for a change.

Regarding the scrunchy. You may recall that I was one of the people who did not complete an application who pressed into service on BlowsVivor. My application form (including 'my choice' of luxury item) were fabrications dreamt up by Shakes. My hair was always held by a simple black hair elastic.

<MakeItStop nods her head with approval.>

You recently mentioned twirling your mustache. I never pictured you with a mustache, whiskers maybe, but not a mustache. Do you really have a mustache or were you speaking metaphorically?

It would appear that my acting abilities are sound as I was doing my imitation of Snidely Whiplash. I have neither a mustache nor a beard.

You're a teacher. What do you teach? And have you always been a teacher or have you had other careers?

I teach telecommunications and electronics. I use to be a communications and radar systems specialist in the Canadian Airforce.

You've also mentioned having an ex and little ones. Would you like to tell us about your little ones?

Two daughters and they are not so little anymore. They are fourteen and twelve.

I know that you keep pretty busy with spoilers, but I was wondering do you have time for other hobbies and if so, what are they?

I used to make films in my spare time, but I don't seem to have much spare time anymore. My job takes a good 50 to 60 hours of my time per week and I decompress by dabbling on the internet. This spoiling thing is a good diversion as it involves a little bit of thought and creativity.

Is there anything else you'd like to tell us?

Not really. I have already revealed far too much as it is. I have not decided yet but I may have to hunt down and eliminate anyone who reads this article.

<The camera focuses on MakeItStop.>

I'd like to thank our guest, IceCat, for taking the time to do this interview. And for my new sig pic! Let's try it out...

Great job MIS!

Nice to get a peek behind the "cool" exterior - thanks for sharing IceCat. And I really don't think there will be any need to eliminate anyone, LOL.

(and thanks again for the sig pic in case you didn't see my thank you in the other thresd)

Didi? Gogo? Where are you? It's me. I'm here. No more waiting. Didi? Gogo? Where are you? I told you I'd come, didn't I? Hello? I could have sworn it was this bench. Where are they? Didi? Gogo?

Excellent job MakeItStop and Ice Cat! I love reading these cornertimes---it's a good way for newbies like me to get "comfy". Very interesting! Thanks for doing this

I meant to mention this earlier ... I wanted to give OFG credit for giving me the idea to have the interviews in different locations. She wanted to do her interview in her garden and that gave me the idea to have all the interviews in different locations. So... thanks OFG!!!

This was awesome guys!

Ice - way to open up dude! I'm so glad you let us know you a little better!

and

M-I-S - this was great - sorta like a Barbara Walters special! You got to the soft kitten underneath the angry feline - that kicks ass!

But I find myself wondering if Ice Cat could be a twee, what kindof twee would he be?

who worries that the above line was much funnier in her head than typed up. Doesn't matter though because I am

Wow--a very KOOL interview Ice. Now you have a FEW less secrets. Film school, hmmm, that (partly) illuminates the side of you that plays so well with words and literary references as well as understanding narrative. I loved ALL of this interview, can't pick one bit in particular.

Your photo at the top--stunning.
Vancouver Island I've only seen in the distance from the tip of the Olympic Peninsula but the pictures are beautiful. One of my cousins taught drama at the university/college in Victoria for some years and I always thought I'd get up and visit, but alas,
never managed. I hope you find your way there.

The subject you teach sounds much like my husband's area. He also started out making experimental films and eventually ended up studying electronics and communications technology.

I also LMAO at your "certain person" remarks and your Bob theory. You and SurvivorChick must be in cahoots. Your "transference" theory is eloquent. The "person" may have a flamethrower, but you have a flame transference device--one that deflects the flame back to its point of origin...

Ice, you are one of the bright Northern lights of SB. I'm so glad you've stayed. Please explain how to locate "Seafaring Kangaroos." I never got the references before! Is it archived on Spoilers?

Thanks, MakeItStop great, great interview and congratulations for pinning down the "Garbo" of SB. I'm amazed he didn't wrap a scarf or pull his hood over his face to avoid recognition!

As to your new sig pic, I would say to the maker--nice concept, but keep flashing it at me at that speed I'll do anything to make it stop. Is that how you get "even" for being interviewed, Ice, by creating a torture device as a gift? These Mastermind types... How about, make it slow down?

For those unfamiliar with the infamous Sea Faring Kangaroos...this is truly a classic!! This was in response to the possible last challenge of S2 having the contestants lay in bamboo coffins for something like three days or something. I just LMAO again reading it!!

Thanks for the interview guys. And a special thumbs up to IceCat for his recent sig pics. The job you did on Northernlights was awesome. I was a bit dismayed, though, after slowing down this sig pic and finding a subliminal message:

Icecat is so much KEWLER than DERK!
I can't believe he uses Wordperfect and shareware for his graphics....me and Peter Torque are the dukes of snatching!
We hereby bestow the title of "King of the Pirate-Cats" on Iceboy!
I've always heard Vancouver is nice and the people are KEWL....I think Iceboy has proven that!
I wonder if he'd like to be in my movie "The Vampire of Centerville"? We already have a black cat that could be his costar!
Good getting to know you Iceboy!

The original version in the interview was the most annoying "migraine/seisure" causing pic I've seen in a long time. Yeah, I wanted to "Make It Stop" by applying a baseball bat to my monitor screen!!!! LOL!

Remember your danged ever-moving "CATSCAN" thingie?
I went into a semi-conscious state and lost several hours of my life from staring at that too long!! Woke up and felt like I needed to get right down to the hospital and have a catscan and couldn't understand WHY!!! LMAO.

Thanks for the new IMPROVED version of MakeItStop's sig pic --- she is a sweetheart and I'm sure the NEW sig pic suits her much better.

Congrats MakeItStop,

This was a very fine interview and I enjoyed it greatly.
Of course I'm sure it helps to be interviewing somebody "interesting" who actually answers the questions!!

I only have one personal note/question to add/ask:

I'm sure there is some poor struggling PONY somewhere who could USE that "two foot long pony tail" Ice Cat has hanging on his bedroom wall. I think he should donate it to the nearest "Pony Shelter". I'm sure it could make a valuable contribution!!!

Anyway, it would stop girls who enter said IC's bedroom from screaming: "OMG, what the heck is THAT THING?? Did you kill a pony and save it's tail as a trophy??? ACK!!"

Thanks to both MIS and IC for the "cornertime".

Dalton
PS. MIS I'm so grateful you got your sig pic fixed. See my post above.

My Canadian Cat Friend,

In Texas there is a BIG difference and you have to go a long way to get yourself from being a "Pony Tail" Guy and a "Horse's Ass" Guy.

I probably can't explain it; but trust me they are two very separate Dude's indeed!!
