It's still on, kind of like a syndicated rerun of a Russian tragecom.
They're still at it two years after it started, despite peace agreement at talks between Vladimir Putin and Petro Poroshenko, the Ukrainian president, in Minsk in February 2015.

The conflict is still on, which happened to escalate the day after Trump had a friendly chat with Putin on the phone.
Asked about this in his interview with Bill O'Reilly, Trump had this to say:

TRUMP: I had a busy week. Yes. Busy week and a half.
O'REILLY: But within 24 hours of you on the phone with the Russian leader, the pro-Russian forces step up the violence in Ukraine.

O'REILLY: Did you take that as an insult?
TRUMP: No I didn't because we don't really know exactly what that is. They're pro-forces. We don't know if they're uncontrollable? Are they uncontrollable? That happens also. We're going to find out. I will be surprised, but we will see.
O'REILLY: Do you respect Putin?
TRUMP: I do respect him.
O'REILLY: Do you? Why?
TRUMP: Well, I respect a lot of people. But that doesn't mean I am going to get along with him. He's a leader of his country. I say it's better to get along with Russia than not. Will I get along with them? I have no idea.

That, of course, is the published opinion of Putin's lackey organization, Wikipedia, and has become the opinion accepted by the sheep-like population that doesn't question the media.
But the real reason is that the Russians really wanted to screw up OT, and they had to have a war in order to do it. They were practicing the RTVW security systems (vintage 1950) hacking in preparation for the 2016 election, on orders from Donald Trump.
What it comes down to is that Donald Trump hates us, and will do anything he can to prevent us from being silly. I have it on good authority that because we subsist on Margaritas and guacamole, that that is why he wants to prevent Mexican immigrations. Also, Trump doesn't want us to have access to quality tamales.
