And it's cold. If those lighter areas are frozen nitrogen, it's real cold. Nitrogen freezes at about -320 deg. F at ambient earth pressure, and at colder temps at the probable pressure (very low) of Pluto.
Pluto is one very cold puppy.
It's presently approx. 4-1/2 light hours from earth. Hard to grasp that.
It's also hard to grasp how it is possible for the gravity of the sun, from that distance, to still keep Pluto and the other Kuiper belt objects in orbit. Not to mention those in the Ort Cloud, much further away.
