""Affordable Health Care""

Posted by foonermints on 12-30-13 at 08:10 PM
Well, I called.
Not happy!
I haven't seen a doctor since I got back from Annapurna in the 80's. Paid cash money for that. Stupid typhus!

I think I'll just pay the fine.
Then croak.

Dakota is correct..

I find your lack of detail disturbing makes the story a little difficult to follow. What happened, exactly?

I haven't seen a doctor in over 30 years. Good genetics, eh?
That and I can stitch myself up if need be. Pain? That's why there's aspirin! besides all those illegal drugs
Why should I shell out over $500 a month for something I don't want or need?
I'm sure Children's Hospital (our main charity) could use the money more productively.

The crazy Obamamachine grinds on!

Problem is that you don't need it until you actually do need it one day and wouldn't it be better to pay some money now instead of waiting for the day when a $25+K hospital stay strikes out of the blue?

I'm willing to wait another 10 years.
Besides, I had major medical insurance anyway for just that reason and it wasn't even half the $580/month they want. Why am I being forced to buy something from the government, just because they think that my insurance wasn't good enough?

Should I get out and press my Communist uniform scnell, or can I squeak through by just driving a Yugo?

Looks like that one is a legal mess.

As for us, we know exactly where our money goes, down to the names of the doctors, personnel and equipment. I tell you, those ladies in Sandee's circle can be frighteningly nit-picky! All to the good, of course.

There's rarely a shortage of Drano, too.

Well, that was excellent after Christmas dinner!

How that gets brewed under water is truly an astonishing feat.

Now all we have left is this rotgut for tonight.

Last I'll ever see of fancy stuff due to "Healthcare". Got to start raising mushrooms under our Hacienda, brewing my own beer and start a "Peyote Cactus Farm" in the front yard. Jeebuz!

I know too many people who had policies that worked for them that have been cancelled because the policy didn't meet obama's "standards".

"serious question"
Posted by jbug on 01-02-14 at 03:49 PM
I've been wondering just how much it has and is still costing us to implement the Affordable Care Act.

Whatever the administrator (whatever her name is) was paid is far too much for the mess that was made.
I can find no information anywhere that says anything about the implementation costs. NOT the cost of the health care that the government is kicking in for subsidies, etc.
There are a lot of people getting paid to develop, fix ( ) and maintain the website (LOL);
and there are a lot of people answering phones.
Not to mention the offices and equipment for all these people.

How many jobs were created for this?
Why didn't anyone I know of hear about these jobs?

As far as I recall, the startup money was given to a Canadian firm, that failed to help Canada's health care system.

May as well hire North Korea to do the job.

I hate the word "problematic". If I fail at what I do, it's not "problematic". Someone could very well die.

"RE: serious question"
Posted by jbug on 01-03-14 at 01:02 PM
from your first link:
While the company behind the dysfunctional HealthCare.gov was virtually unknown to the American public until this month, critics say the Obama administration should have known this multibillion-dollar firm had a checkered history with other government contracts.
....
The project was never put out to a full and open bidding process, but was limited to 16 candidates pre-qualified to do IT business for the government under what they call a "Indefinite Delivery and Indefinite Quantity" or ID/IQ, contracting vehicle. According to those same government documents, CGI was one of four that bid on the health exchange project.
....
CGI has already received $196 million to develop the new health care exchange, including the website, well over the initial $93 million contract, according to government documents.

How many people were either uninsured or underinsured?
How far would that $196 million go toward providing health care for them?

"RE: serious question"
Posted by jbug on 01-03-14 at 01:04 PM
and from your second link:

CGI Federal, which secured a $678 million no-bid contract to build the Obamacare exchange web portal.

How about $678 million to provide health care for those who needed it?

"RE: serious question"
Posted by foonermints on 01-03-14 at 02:21 PM
Not to mention the ongoing maintenance costs. Lots of room for "unplanned excess emergency budgeting" or some such paper-pusher nonsense.

Maybe I could get a truly non-productive job!
I bet I can think up official sounding terms like "brass monkey capitalization needs" or "The New York Recalcitrant Problem" and score a few more million off suckers the taxpayers.

Maybe just partial retirement early?

Let's see what Bob says..this is real.

Sure, I'll get "The Silver Plan" for $70/month instead of $578+.
I can live on $20K a year, trouble is, my morals won't let me do that.

I have no health insurance anymore, and I'm paying the fine, wtf that is.

Thank You, Dakota.

Isn't the CBO saying that now that you can take your healthcare with you, like you can with your 401k. That means people will leave jobs they hate but have just for the healthcare to do something they love or start a business on their own because your healthcare is now portable like with a 401k's instead of having to stay for your pension?

Trouble is, I like my job, or I never would have applied in the first place. Changing jobs over at Space X sounds interesting. I haven't made spacesuits yet!

But does this just mean you get to drag a $600 monthly millstone around your neck wherever you go?

"RE: So It Goes.."
Posted by kingfish on 03-24-14 at 09:05 AM
Yeah, there's going to have to be big changes in that law for it to really be universally affordable and effective.

Or complete repeal and start over.

And whatever the eventual answer is, it's also going to have to be accepted by both parties, not rammed down the minority party's throat by the majority. Obamacare was basically doomed from the start because of that and because it is fatally flawed by its funding model.

"RE: So It Goes.."

Not to mention the fatally flawed morons who put the website together. Secure medical information? Hah!

Do I understand correctly that one can choose to not enroll now, pay the fine, and then IF something happens and you NEED insurance, you can just enroll WHEN you need it?

Makes perfect sense to me.

"RE: So It Goes.."
Posted by kingfish on 03-24-14 at 12:08 PM
I get lost in all the details, but as I understand it, unless you are exempt you have till March 30 to sign up, or you have to pay a fine next year when you file your income tax. And if you don't sign up by the 30th, you can't sign up until the next enrolment period which begins in November this year.

You don't need to sign up if you have qualified health insurance already, and it's really murky (to me) what constitutes “qualified". Or if you have Medicare/Medicaid. And there are undoubtedly more exemptions.

Employers with a certain minimum number of employees are required to provide “qualified” insurance or they get penalized. Which is one of the major problems with the law (again, as I understand it), because many employers that are near that minimum will lay off a few to be below it. People lose their jobs as well as their “unqualified” health insurance.

And it seems that there is no end to how many peopleare getting screwed by either losing primary physician, being denied services at some medical institutions (including some that provide the best care), having insurance but still being penalized because their plan (which might be supplied by their company) isn’t “qualified”.

Affordable and universal health insurance is a worthy goal, and it would have been nice if Obama et.al. was capable of crafting legislation that provided that instead of using it to instigate a partisan political war.

My NSA spy satellite/hack/feed detects her specifically writing on a notepad by her Obama Chia Head: "Make sure today to cancel out foonermints vote. It's worth nothing! Ha HAH HAH!

To add more insult, I think my polling place in California was suspect. I heard a "whirring" sound after I deposited my ballot. As I walked outside, I noticed a new, empty box for a shredder by the trash can.
