Reading: something I've been working on, checking for the last cowering typos.

Talking to: other than the Internet, a few people around me, most of whom want to know if I can spare some watermelon-cherry fruit cocktail.

Thinking about: getting my hair styled, forcing the superintendent into my apartment so he can fix my toilet (water flow leak: bowl won't fill or flush normally), whether I'm advancing the story at the right pace especially since it's too late to take anything back now, if I want to go out this weekend when I have a major one planned for the next. Not in that order.

Wow, cool to know at least someone else around here likes the Moody Blues. I really got into them during my early years in college (mid-70's) and I have a complete CD collection of their albums which I listen to when the mood strikes me.

Curious as to what Bach work(s) you are listening to?

(Bach is #2 behind Beethoven for me; both are ahead of Mozart.)

Brandenburg Concertos (cond. Benjamin Britten) on loop

I'm really a "greatest hits" person when it comes to Classical music, if it came to choosing a second favourite ... although I have been listening to Mendelssohn (Fingal's cave takes me straight to the highlands) and Faure more lately it would have to be Vivaldi, there is just something in those tumbling twisting strings that jolts me every time.

Recently we have had a TV series Howard Goodall's The Story of Music which was a) brilliant and b) revitalised my enjoyment of classical music. It doesn't seem to be on US TV, however if you see it on give it a bash.

I'll keep an eye out for the program, it looks like something I'd enjoy. Maybe public tv will get it eventually.

As it happens I'm hearing a lot of Faure lately too: I sing in a chorale that's performing his Requiem next weekend, and last weekend I sat in with a friend's chorus for the Cantique de Jean Racine, which my chorale had performed last year. Both pieces are lovely. I also like his chamber music.

I could listen to the Brandenburgs anytime, I never get tired of them. I have two recordings by British conductors -- Christopher Hogwood and Roy Goodman. (A third one I have inexplicably places concerto #3 ahead of #2 in the sequencing.) Vivaldi and Mendelssohn are also among my faves, and although I don't know Fingal's Cave I do like the "Scottish" symphony.

Reading: The Captured: A True Story of Abduction by Indians on the Texas Frontier

A non-fiction story about two children with the same last name as me who were captured by Indians in the mid-1800s from a town in Texas where my Y Chrom. ancestors settled. They were integrated into the tribe and raise families.

Listening to: Bob Dylan Blood on the tracks, Amy Winehouse.

Talking to: Imaginary Powers that be, who (and yeah, I am aware of this) aren't there.

Thinking about: How to prove to the Casino licensing authorities that I have an Indian heritage.
