It is 2013, Two.Thousand.Thirteen!

Really, it is, I checked the cell phone, calendar, everything.

Cheerios in hot water over an ad. Because the little girl is interracial and based on who the parents got cast it is clear how she got that way.

They had to turn the comments off on the You-tube of the ad because well, they are trying to celebrate families and some of the comments were not so family-friendly.

*sigh*

Really, this is forcing you (or your kids) to marry anyone, and egad do you really think that there was no interracial hanky panky in all of time before this??!!!??!!

*headdesk*

ETA: Title makes more sense with the ask I told my fingers to type than the as they actually did.

Cue the people getting upset about the blatant wasting of food when people are starving...

Thinks "Cheerios" Yuck

Thinks "Cheerios in hot water" Bleugh

Although I used to enjoy cornflakes or Weetabix in hot milk.

Back when I worked for a well known multi-national the canteen offered a "healthy" breakfast of oatmeal (Porridge) made with water. 2nd most unpleasant food ever.

Um...

*glances at mirror*

...apparently I force people into interracial hanky-panky at least thirty times a day...

It is out there. It will always be out there. It never stops.

Is it discrimination if we politely ask the bigots to feel free to be that way as long as they keep it locked up in their bedrooms and never dare to sit at the same table with it in public?

Yes, because we're infringing on their religious freedom of expression, which only counts when it's their religion.

Y'know, when I say I was irredeemably damned from birth, it's not exactly a joke.

It's just insane how some people blow up on internet comments sections. Followed one section over the weekend (unrelated to this story), the same few posters kept egging each other on and eventually everyone else trying to be intelligent just gave up. More on this story here:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/05/31/cheerios-commercial-racist-backlash_n_3363507.html

Prior to the closure, the comment section had been filled "with references to Nazis, 'troglodytes' and 'racial genocide,'" according to Adweek.

YouTube comment sections have a reputation for breeding racist flame wars.

I guess my family could star in a Cheerios commercial!

My wife is 1/2 Malay, 1/4 Indian, 1/8 Chinese and 1/8 Scottish, while I am your vanilla 15/16 Caucasian (half Dutch) with 1/16 Ojibway Native American.

So, what does that make my son? He always has a problem when it comes to forms (census, college admission, etc) asking about his race. Should he put Asian? White? Mutt? Human?

The solution could be just as simple as putting a little box to check at the bottom for some or all of the above.
Personally, I would call it New World, only implying that those who stick to just one race are old and potentially outdated.
I agree...c'mon, it's 2013.
At what point in our history does everyone enter the same century together?

What cut of the Wampum does Cahaya get from the Ojibway Indian Casino?

You're Tribe. Maybe you know?

While the slots are very tempting, I'll take the oh and double-oh drops on the wheel.

0 and 00 doesn't sound like "winning".

Well, triple-oh isn't on the wheel, but we still go for it.

Point 1: The commercial (little girl, little girl's 'message' to dad, dad's reaction) is waaaaaaay tooooooo cute.

Point 2: Hey dolts -- if you like the 1950s so much, why not stick to technology you had available at the time!

That's all the time I should give this. But thanks for sharing the link -- love the commercial!

Thnx tribey!

Looks like some killer gem zones to me. And a form of suicide.

(OK, too much watching of "Prospectors").

The commercial is funny. The controversy is nonsense and wouldn't receive any more attention that any other Internet trolling if not for the racial component. The trollers are nuts, and are always a threat on the Internet.

And perhaps some of them are even more of a threat in RL off the Internet.

The commercial is funny.

I would say amusing rather than funny. I never paid attention to the ad before this thread, really, because I don't care for Cheerios in the first place. More nutritional than cardboard, certainly, but pretty much as tastelessly bland as the box they come in.

The kids loved Cheerios when they were little, though, so I wouldn't take an absolute anti-Cheerios stand.

Anyway, good for General Mills for standing behind the ad and keeping it running.

And this new one from Blockbuster, although it becomes evident only later in the commercial after the delivery boy shows up.

So far, only four comments on the Blockbuster youtube ad, most of them wondering if it's for real.
