"International Space Station videos"

A while back we had a cool video of a woman (with crazy hair!) giving a very interesting tour of the ISS.

Now we have Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield doing an experiment sent to him by a couple of high school students.

It is so cool to see the astronauts embracing social media.

Found any other cool ones?

Heavy water is even stranger.

Laughed in the opening clips, with him even hanging the mic in the air for a few secs like he was doing a magic show.

My favorite is still the crazy-hair girl.
I wonder if she's dating?

that was way cool!

I had to watch without sound.
So, if they spill something liquid & it's floating around in there, & they catch it with a cloth...
will the liquid eventually evaporate there?
Do they ever wash clothes? or are their clothes disposable?

I am a major Space Station geek. I can answer some of the questions:

1. The water will not evaporate very quickly. There is a major concern that (this is true for any liquid) will drift into sensitive equipment, so free-flying things like that are discouraged.

2. Clothes are not washed. However, thanks to the ease of movement in micro-gravity, the astronauts do not sweat very much. There is also virtually no dirt or dust to contend with, so (yes, this sounds disgusting), clothes are worn for longer periods of time then for us Earthers. Most last for nearly two weeks before they are discarded. (Personal undergarments are treated with a waterless soap).

The ISS is easily visible from Earth, even in major cities (like Los Angeles). Go to www.spotthestation.nasa.gov and plug in your location. I've seen it many times crossing the sky -- amazing.

In another of the videos I saw, students ask Hatfield questions about living in space. One question was about how to wash hands in space. He responds that they use a special water with mild soap that doesn't need rinsing. He squeezed out some of the soapy water, washed his hands, then dried with a towel. At the end he says they hang up the towels so that the moisture can evaporate out and be reused in the ISS.

So I guess evaporation does happen there!

IF the crazy hair lady had some white streaks in her hair, she would look like the bride of Frankenstein! Very cool video. Like Jbug, I had to watch it without sound.
