Remember David Mamet's movie "Heist"? One of my all time favorites? Substitute a staggering amount of diamonds for a staggering amount of gold, and the real life plot bears an uncanny resemblence to what Mamet dreamed up.

Well, they had to get the idea from somewhere. And there's always the chance that Mamet is the ringleader here too.

You can't melt diamonds down into rods, the way you can (and Gene Hackman and Delroy Lindo did) with gold.

Yeah, these guys were spared that complication. And maybe they were also spared the murderous subplotsthat were so brilliantly interwoven. Athough, with $50 Mill on the line, and given normal human paranoia, if I was one of them I would sleep with one eye open both eyes open.

Great quotes from a movie that is rich in tough guy quotes. The combination of Mamet's dialog and Hackman's delivery.

More dialog:
Joe Moore (Gene Hackman): "Why doesn't he shoot me? "
Fran Moore (Rebecca Pidgeon) :"That's the deal. "
Joe Moore: "He ain't gonna shoot me?"
Fran Moore: "No. "
Joe Moore: "Then he hadn't ought to point a gun at me. It's insincere."

There are small spent uranium bullets for that. Terrible waste of beer, though.
