"Burqas at the Grammys!"

Looks like the Grammys have sent out some wardrobe recommendations for this year's award show.

Please avoid exposing bare fleshy under curves of the buttocks and buttock crack. Bare sides or under curvature of the breasts is also problematic.

Problematic for whom??

Short notice to the attendees to send this our Wednesday for Sunday's show, but I expect there could be some interesting outfits to "challenge" and protest this mandate.

Problematic for whom??

Whichever executive's bonus the fines are being paid out of?

Balancing added ad revenue against fines...I think there's a bigger posssibility that those exec's will get larger bonuses.

The PTC's been on the attack lately: maybe the show got a tipoff that they were going to try getting fines for anything they found offensive: i.e. everything. But you can't tell musicians what to do -- ever. I expect the only result of this will be Lady Gaga turning up in the nude.

I expect the only result of this will be Lady Gaga turning up in the nude.

Does that differ than other appearances for her?

But I think she will be one of several who will respond with a display of defiance. But in which extreme?

Maybe everyone will wear those "nekid t-shirts" covering their own naughty bits but revealing pictured naughty bits (or cartoon ones). Hello Jessica Rabbit!

Or in a turtleneck, long-sleeved, full-length, skin-tight gown covered in a print of cartoon phalluses and oobies.

Genius, for those who become aroused when applauded.

The more you see, the more you clap. The more you clap, the more you see.

Genius.

I hadn't noticed Toni Braxton's stretch marks before.

Do we need an alert system?

I saw part of the red carpet and I think Katie Perry's dress is painted on.

I hate Taylor Swift. Did LL Cool J say that James Moody was his father? I must have misheard.

Oh joy, here she is again in a Target ad.

She's also the new face of Diet Coke. Make money while the Q rating shines.

No questions about it; I'm old.

That said, anyone here want to explain this to me as it goes along?
No? I don't blame you; I won't stick around long anyway.

I'm relieved she's finally making an appearance somewhere. The girl has been so reclusive of late.

OK so you wanted to follow the memo and have a high neckline and long sleeves, but you didn't need to take the fabric off of Granny's couch.

Ouch, I know there are dresses that look fabulous on a woman her size.

All that was missing was the lost remote control sticking out of her cleavage!

Lol! And loose change spilling out of her sleeves.

I think she was trying for a 1960s flower-power look.

"Song of the Year"

So early?

Isn't Fun. from Brooklyn? Then, yay. But I don't care for the song.

I like Fun. a lot, but that Call Me Maybe didn't win song of the year just show how contrarian the Grammys voters are.

I like it too. A lot.

But the recorded version was so much better. Obviously, normally (in studio) recorded versions much are better than live versions, but that sucked so much that I think the whole arrangement was different.

Carrie Underwood's dress is attacked by various multi-colored life-forms. How did she continue to sing through all that?

But Prince looks cool.

Hold on, you've never heard of Gotye and Kimbra? His song (with her adding vocals) was all over everywhere last year. The song is "Somebody That I Used to Know".

Here's the official video:

Much like Carly Rae Jepsen's song "Call Me Maybe" that was so big last year, Gotye's song also had maybe "imitators". Here is my favourtite, cleverly done with 5 people sharing 1 guitar:

What's interesting about the song to me is that I discovered it early January 2012, and later learned it was released August 2011, but then tonight wins Record of the Year. Timings on these things are odd (as Fun. noted, when after 12 years together as a band won Best New Artist!)

No I never heard of them and never heard the song. But I don't listen to contemporary radio. Though I do become aware of some songs, like for example that annoying Alicia Keys song.

I was curious to hear Frank Ocean. So here he is singing, out of tune, about Forrest Gump. Hoping this will get better...

Gee he really is mostly not in tune at all. In the end I don't see what all the fuss is about...

That Forrest Gump thing was weird and not good IMO.

I get the impression that the criterion for Grammy voters is "oh, we only just noticed you this year, cause you suddenly sold a decent amount of records. So we can consider you 'new'."

What is the difference between "song of the year" and "record of the year"? I had thought record might be album, but there is a separate category for that.

Song of the Year goes to the songwriters. Record of the Year goes to the artist.

Slightly more technically, "Record of the Year" goes to the artist, producer and recording engineer/mixer of the single track judged to be best of the year. (And Album of the Year goes to the artist, producer, and recording engineer/mixer of the best entire album.)

This year, we had a fascinating three-way split for these three most prestigious awards; I can't remember the last time that happened (but I just looked it up, and it was just three years ago, in the Kanye/Taylor Swift fiasco, which I've apparently blocked). I admit to being pleased that Mumford & Sons won for Album of the Year with Babel.
