"Clothing advice.."

Posted by WyoGuy44 on 01-25-13 at 07:15 PM
I am going to my nephews wedding in August back in Minnesota and I'm looking for help as to what to wear. Any ideas? It is a casual wedding and it will be very hot in Minnesota at that time. On a budget so trying to keep the cost down. I need shoes, pants and a nice shirt.

I think men can get away with a casual pair of khakis, a lightweight button down shirt, tie and some basic black or brown shoes (depending on the shirt/tie color)

Just pull on the string and the rest takes care of itself.

OH! The "Magic String"!

Aladdin and a Cave of Wonders is probably involved here.

The long pants scream "Look at ME, people, not at the bride!"

The short pants, on the other hand, would be a model of tasteful understatement.

Are you going as yourself or "Hollywood"?

Me: Black pants and black socks and shoes. White shirt (western cut collar) and a string tie.
Wyoming Clasp: probably not turquoise or bone. Polished silver (an understatement) or gold. Hand carved by an artist you know, or left behind from one of your many brokenhearted loves to remember her by.

Hollywood: the same. I can send you a thigh rig for your Colt.

Make sure you are comfortable in your own clothes. It's a celebration! People there want you.

You'll be fine.

Summer-weight khaki pants and jacket, white shirt

Black, gray or navy pants and white shirt, lightweight sport jacket

There's always the vest option with any of the above. You get the pulled-together look of a third piece without the jacket. A casual summer wedding probably doesn't require a tie, but if you want to add one, it's easy to loosen or take off and adds a bit of punch to the look -- like women and their scarves.

Shine your shoes. Relax and have fun. Don't drink and drive.

I think a jacket would be too hot! I'm liking the Khaki idea with a white shirt. I do have a nice vest that would go great with grey pants. Thanks all.

August in Minnesota? A mosquito net, of course!

A casual wedding here in the summer...definitely a pair of lightweight, light-colored khakis and a button down short-sleeved shirt would be good (think Dockers, lol). If it's really casual, you maybe could even get away with a pair of dressier shorts and a pair of nice sandals (no socks!).

I don't know how formal your family is, but every wedding I've ever gone to it's not unusual to see people (especially guys) in jeans. Shorts, if it's hot. Oh and a Twins baseball hat too, of course. I would probably skip the hat.

I don't know if you have Kohls in your neck of the woods, but they're great for those kinds of clothes at a really good price. Don't forget the Deep-Woods Off! Have fun and let us know how "casual" it ended up being. I'm curious to see if it's the same type of casual that I know.

I cant wear shorts. *Chicken legs* I definitely think the khakis is the answer with a light shirt.

Haha! Don't most guys, though? If women's shorts were like guy shorts, long and kinda baggy, I would so wear them. I don't wear shorts anymore cause I would literally blind people with my bright glowing whiteness.

I love when my husband has been working outside wearing shorts with socks and tennis shoes, then he when he wears his nice shorts and sandals he has a farmer's tan on his legs. So funny.

edit to add: You can never go wrong with khakis!

You have until August, hit the squat rack and by August you'll have quads, hamstrings and calf muscles to show off.

Once you establish a look, and once everybody recognizes that look as your look, you never have to think about fashion again.
