I may be guessing at some of these

1. Eggnog or hot rum? Never had either, glühwein or mulled wine would be more traditional over here. I thoroughly enjoyed Starbucks eggnog flavoured coffee, but then again I do like a nip of rum every now and again... Eggnog

2. Gingerbread or sugar cookie? Had to look up sugar cookie, and that made me decide on gingerbread

3. Turkey or Goose/Duck? I'm the only person in my family who likes turkey, managed to negotiate a three bird roast last year, this year Duck

4. Fake tree or real tree (cut or living)? Fake (with optical fibres)

5. Hannukah: 8 days of presents or one day only? One, because 7 satsumas and one big present isn't that big a deal

6. Menorahs - modern/avant-garde or traditional? Traditional

7. Kugel or gifilte fish? gefilte fish every day of the year (although they have quadrupled in price over the past 3 years

8. Stockings or no stockings? I may be letting down my sex, but no stockings, Oh hang on I get it, loved getting a stocking when I was young and my brother gave me a selection box last Christmas that bought back all the olde happinesses, so yes to a stocking

9. Outside lights: minimal or GRISWALD? None

10. Movies: It's a Wonderful Life or Christmas Vacation? It's a Wonderful Life (although it isn't Christmas until White Christmas has been on

11. Scrooge or Frosty? Bah Humbug. Scrooge

12. Carolling or horse drawn sleighride? Carolling

13. Christmas on the beach, or Christmas in the snow? Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow

14. Latkes: potato or apple? ! This is one of the reasons I lvoe this place, I have never heard of apple latkes, so I would give them a bash

15: Day after: "thank goodness it's over" or "awwww, it's over" ? Only 364 days to go

Being of British background myself, here are a few more:

1. Christmas crackers: Wear the hat or don't wear the hat?:
2. White Christmas or Love Actually?
3. Plum pudding or toffee pudding?
4. Kylie Minogue or Bill Nighey singing the annual Christmas song?
5. Boxing day: Shopping or no shopping?

RE: the latkes, I used to make both potato, apple and zucchini latkes when I was married to my first husband, who was Jewish, which his why I threw in some of the Hannukah references too!!

"RE: Special Starshine Version"
Posted by CTgirl on 12-07-12 at 05:22 PM
We always have crackers at my family Christmas celebration (we don't celebrate on Dec. 25th. It's like a moveable Boxing Day. This year we are getting together on the 23rd.) I always make everyone wear their crown - I have years of blackmail pics! LOL

"RE: Special Starshine Version"
Posted by thndrkttn on 12-08-12 at 05:18 PM
We get crackers too and everyone wears their crown without complaint. Although, if truth were told, I haven't been home for Christmas in six years. That's kind of sad...

"RE: Special Starshine Version"
Posted by WyoGuy44 on 12-08-12 at 05:32 PM
I havent been home in 6 years either. How weird is that?

"RE: Special Starshine Version"
Posted by thndrkttn on 12-08-12 at 07:18 PM
Mr. Wyoming? Why haven't you been home? Me? Our families do NOT appreciate the time, effort and money it takes to come home and no one feels the need to visit us, soooo... Heck, after all the family drama on both sides last year, we're not going home at all this year. You want to see us? You know where we live.

You're new. Introduce yourself! We don't bite...right away anyway.

"RE: Special Starshine Version"
Posted by WyoGuy44 on 12-08-12 at 07:30 PM
My family lives 800 miles away and we dont get along. I'd rather spend christmas alone than deal with them.

"RE: Special Starshine Version"
Posted by Starshine on 12-07-12 at 06:18 PM
1. Christmas crackers: Wear the hat Although I have to bully my Mother and Brother to actually get crackers

2. White Christmas or Love Actually? I have never seen Love Actually, and I always enjoy White Christmas so no competition

3. Plum pudding or toffee pudding? Plum pudding (or as we call it over here Christmas pudding) no competition, now Brandy Butter, Rum Butter, sweet white sauce, cream or custard is the difficult question

4. Kylie Minogue or Bill Nighey singing the annual Christmas song?

5. Boxing day: Shopping or no shopping? Lying in bed watching The Sound of Music

Lovely cheese Mooney

Where are Voice of the Beehive when we need them?

"RE: Special Starshine Version"
Posted by MKitty on 12-07-12 at 06:58 PM
Yup, I call it Christmas pudding too, but just wanted to be clear (I know some peope make it out of carrot too, so maybe saying Plum pudding was also misleading!) I love a good rum sauce on top....mmmmm...

Like CT girl and you, I ALWAYS make everyone wear the crown...EVERYONE!! I am the Crown Enforcer

Turducken! Try the Four bird roast

The real traditional thing is the seven bird roast, although even that has been superseded now!

1. Eggnog or hot rum? Not that I am crazy about hot rum, but eggnog? is disgusting.

2. Gingerbread or sugar cookie? Easy.

3. Turkey or Goose/Duck?

4. Fake tree or real tree (cut or living)?

5. Hannukah: 8 days of presents or one day only? Every Jewish kid I ever knew always claimed that as the advantage.

6. Menorahs - modern/avant-garde or traditional?

7. Kugel or gifilte fish? I don't think I've ever had either, and I am not sure what kugel is, but I like the sound of it better.

8. Stockings or no stockings?

9. Outside lights: minimal or GRISWALD?

10. Movies: It's a Wonderful Life or Christmas Vacation? I haven't seen CV.

11. Scrooge or Frosty?

12. Carolling or horse drawn sleighride?

13. Christmas on the beach, or Christmas in the snow? Specifically, a Mexican beach. I have spent more of my adult Christmases in Mexico than this country and I really prefer their traditions to ours and especially the lack of commercialization.

14. Latkes: potato or apple?

15: Day after: "thank goodness it's over" or "awwww, it's over" ? I was sick of Christmas a week ago. I don't know how people do this year after year. I would love to flee to Mexico, but am stuck here this year.

3. Turkey or Goose/Duck?

4. Fake tree or real tree (cut or living)? Both fake and cut

9. Outside lights: minimal or GRISWALD?

10. Movies: It's a Wonderful Life or Christmas Vacation?

1. Eggnog or hot rum? Both rank around 12 out of 10 in the yuk meter

2. Gingerbread or sugar cookie?

3. Turkey or Goose/Duck? Only because my exposure to duck has been very limited and my exposure to goose non-existant

4. Fake tree or real tree (cut or living)? Cats & trees don't mix

5. Hannukah: 8 days of presents or one day only? Interesting family backstory here...

6. Menorahs - modern/avant-garde or traditional? My maternal grandmother was Jewish -- technically making me Jewish -- but she changed into something unique to her. I honor my heritage with a Menorah display.

7. Kugel or gifilte fish? Not that much honoring.

8. Stockings or no stockings? See #4

9. Outside lights: minimal or GRISWALD? Does none count as minimal?

10. Movies: It's a Wonderful Life or Christmas Vacation?

11. Scrooge or Frosty?

12. Carolling or horse drawn sleighride?

13. Christmas on the beach, or Christmas in the snow? We get both here in SoCal

14. Latkes: potato or apple?

15: Day after: "thank goodness it's over" or "awwww, it's over" ?

Let 'er rip... Don't say this with middle schoolers.

I guess I also need to answer this!

1. Eggnog or hot rum?
I actually adore both, eggnog in coffee (to cut its richness) and hot rum...well, it's my all-time favourite drink!

2. Gingerbread or sugar cookie?
Love me some gingerbread. Will make some next weekend.

3. Turkey or Goose/Duck?
I adore duck, so would vastly prefer that to a dried out turkey.

4. Fake tree or real tree (cut or living)?
Real all the way! Cutting one down this weekend from the farm.

5. Hannukah: 8 days of presents or one day only?
1 day...8 is too much pressure!

6. Menorahs - modern/avant-garde or traditional?
Love the funky modern ones...a rustic one...

7. Kugel or gifilte fish?
I adore kugel (a noodle pudding for those people not familiar)

8. Stockings or no stockings?
Christmas stocking may be one of my favourite Christmas traditions along with trimming the tree. As a child, loved my stocking but stopped getting one around 12 years old. Married into a very Christmassy family about 10 years ago and they even give stockings for adults, so I now get a stocking again! Woo-hoo!

9. Outside lights: minimal or GRISWALD?
I don't go crazy, but I do love twinkling lights outside.

10. Movies: It's a Wonderful Life or Christmas Vacation?
I am going with my all time favourite "Christmas" movie, stepping outside of the box, to actually vote for the Christmas Story (for family viewing), with a strong adult-only, no-children-present second choice of Love Actually

11. Scrooge or Frosty?
Kind of love Scrooge...

12. Carolling or horse drawn sleighride?
My siggie shows me carolling, which I do love

13. Christmas on the beach, or Christmas in the snow?
For me...snow all the way baby...

14. Latkes: potato or apple?
Crispy potato latkes WITH apple sauce....mmmmm

15: Day after: "thank goodness it's over" or "awwww, it's over" ?
As much as I love Christmas...I also love when it's over...

1) Egg Nog. Rum is the liquor that gives me bed spins.

2) Sugar Cookie.

3) Turkey. Never liked duck.

4) Fake. real trees are too messy.

5) Doesn't apply but I think I would prefer one night, eight days in a row might get tedious.

6) Traditional

7) Kugel. Definitely Kugel. Gefilte Fish, Egg Nog and sugar cookies would be a bad mix anyway.

8) Stockings.

9) Minimal. Keep it dignified.

10) It's A Wonderful Life. A true classic vs a schlocky sequel? no contest.

11) Scrooge. He gives better presents.

12) Horse Drawn Sleigh. It's fun to watch all the people on Queens Blvd jump out of the way.

13) Christmas in the snow. I despise warm/hot Christmases.

14) Potato. With sour cream.

15) Awww it's over. I'm an incurable romantic.

Let 'er rip...

Are you sure that's what you want?

1. hot rum

2. sugar cookie

3. Turkey (I don't eat meat, but I'd choose turkey over water fowl)

4. Fake tree (real is better, fake is practical *sigh*)

5. Hannukah: one day only

6. Menorahs - traditional

7. Kugel (how can we eat Guppy's friends and relatives?)

8. Stockings

9. Outside lights: minimal

10. Movies: It's a Wonderful Life

11. Frosty

12. horse drawn sleighride

13. Christmas on the beach

1. Eggnog or hot rum? Usually had it as a Hot Toddy, so I'll go with Hot Rum

2. Gingerbread or sugar cookie? Gingerbread cookie. Remember the differently abled ones have no calories

3. Turkey or Goose/Duck? I usually cook Turkey, but a I always loved it when Mom made either Goose or Duck.

4. Fake tree or real tree (cut or living)? Fake Tree. Dad was allergic to pine so got used to the fakes and not sure I wanna deal with the needles from the living. The fake ones shed badly enough.

5. Hannukah: 8 days of presents or one day only? I'll take the 8 days, please

6. Menorahs - modern/avant-garde or traditional? Avant-garde

7. Kugel or gifilte fish? Kugel

8. Stockings or no stockings? Stockings on me, but I haven't hung a stocking since leaving parents house.

9. Outside lights: minimal or GRISWALD? Minimal. There is one of those blow up-palooza houses around the corner, they do it for both Christmas and Halloween.

10. Movies: It's a Wonderful Life or Christmas Vacation? It's a Wonderful Life

11. Scrooge or Frosty? Frosty

12. Carolling or horse drawn sleighride? Sleigh Ride

13. Christmas on the beach, or Christmas in the snow? Snow.

14. Latkes: potato or apple? Potato

15: Day after: "thank goodness it's over" or "awwww, it's over" ?
How many days until the stores are normal again?

11. Scrooge or Frosty? ScroogED

12. Carolling or horse drawn sleighride? Gah! Neither!

13. Christmas on the beach, or Christmas in the snow? Snow! *sigh* The one thing I don't like about NC? No snow at Christmastime. Messes up my sense of what time of year it is. Heck, it's going to be 72 and partly cloudy tomorrow. That's like what? Early September in NY? I'll be ready for Halloween sometime in January.

14. Latkes: potato or apple? Potato with sour cream!

1. Day after: "thank goodness it's over" or "awwww, it's over" ? Again, I'll be all excited for Christmas in late February.
