This is a concern post.

While I know that peeps come and (sadly) sometimes leave this plavce, I am concerned about a specific missing peep. Newsomewayne has long been a very active contributor around here, and especially over in OT Sports. He was running the NCAA Football pool this year, and seems to have disappeared mid-season. Pretty unusual behaviour. The last post I can find from him was Oct 26 (US Election Debate 3 thread).

Did I miss a note wherein he said he was leaving? Does anyone know him outside of here? Did he live in the path of Hurricane Sandy?

I am really hoping that he just has a broken computer.

I shared a few friendly "fireside chat" messages with NSW just before the election (quite an interesting dialog, thanks to Wayne). I haven't heard from him since.

Like everyone else, I also hope nothing serious, health-wise or otherwise, has come up.

But I also know that some folks who are well known in these parts often themselves take a bit of a time out from online participation with us in order to take care of important things in their own lives that we aren't fully aware of.

I emailed him, but I have not heard anything. During one of his other absences, he and I had exchanged messages.

I hope nothing has happened to him. My best guess is that he is just taking some time off. I think we all do at some point. I don't think OT was nearly as bad as Facebook was post-election. There were days I really had no desire to check in there. Perhaps Wayne's absence is somewhat related to that. I don't know.

He also could very well be dealing with something very personal. We all have very different ways of dealing with things. Perhaps this is his way.

For a while you and another FB friend were sending emails to sell me things. Strangely, although you and my other friend have never met, you would both send me the exact same email each time. It was obviously somehow someone had hacked your FB accounts and sent mass emails in yours and his name.

It seems to have stopped though.

Yeah, so many people (even my DW and DS) use Facebook in lieu of everything else. I have a shell FB account under a pseudo-name just so that I can check out other FB pages. There isn't any way in God's green earth or the Devil's cold hell that I'm going to post anything personal on FB.

People are rarely missing, they're just somewhere else.

As for NSW, I am truly concerned. He had I had an interesting PM exchange going into the elections and then... poof, same as in the Sports forums. Although my political and religious affiliations are much different than his, I admire him for standing up for what he believes in. Too many people in our society waffle about, following this trend or that trend, without having any sincere convictions of their own. I didn't agree with NSW on many topics, but I can tell you for certain that I would have enjoyed a fireside chat with him in person.

First off, plavce?

True, I had left. But on a whim I thought I'd drop by just to see what was being discussed. Truly I was very surprised to see that it was me!

So, anyway, as you can see, I am alive and well. I wasn't in the path of Sandy, and I didn't leave a note. I didn't even really plan to leave.

I've taken some leaves before. Usually after a big discussion where I either didn't like where the discussion went or didn't like where I went. This time there wasn't any of that.

It wasn't because of the election. It wasn't because I was trying to become a head coach. And it wasn't beacuse I was trying to become as missed as that trench-coated varmit.

It also wasn't because of major IRL events, though I did have a couple of those about this time. Nothing even in the same universe of life-altering like what Buggy and Jbug have been going through. -- To the two of you, I'm very sorry for what you've been going through lately. I hope and pray you find the comfort and support you need right now. -- About this time, my grandmother, who turns 96 this month, was in ICU with conestive heart failure and pneumonia. Also, I started a new job at a big company. Big events, but not reasons for my absence. BTW, Granny is back home, and though not in great health, she is doing much better.

And dashing the dreams (hopes?) of a few of the peeps here, I wasn't trapped in another peep's basement.

In the end, I just took a break. It had nothing to do with anything. I left for no real reason. I took a short break and then decided to extend it until I decided to end it.

I'm still extending it, this post and maybe a few others not withstanding. I didn't leave a note because I know those aren't always well recieved and can come off sounding like a fishing expedition for pleas to stay. After seeing my thread, I felt it owed to this site an explanation of sorts. So there it is. I'm not dead, kidnapped, or in jail. I'm just not here, for the time being.

Glad to know you're well and okay, and it's also thoughtful of you to acknowledge some of the trials some of the other folks here have gone through (and are going through).

People here often come and go, but sometimes when someone disappears suddenly, especially while they're in the midst of ongoing board activities, people notice -- and care. Sometimes it's for real, as we found out with Vince.

Take care, dude, and enjoy your time off. Thanks for your fireside political chats in PM during the election, I always enjoy listening to people with perspectives different than my own.

Glad you are OK. I think after Vince3 we are a little sensitive to people who disappear in the middle of doing an ongoing game or hosting gig.

Most of the time it is just life-lifing on people but that one time it wasn't.

And you are right, a lot of the "I'm taking a break" posts can be taken poorly as all too often it is someone posting stuff to create drama (wanting to see who begs for them to come back, etc.) rather than just a hey, I'm busy for while, be back when I can note.

But I was hoping for reports of;

1. The content of Fooner's basement.

2. How to escape Fooner's basement. I think we all could stand to have this little item tucked away should the need ever arise.

Finally, I think I'd like to post an "I'm going away for a while" post too. I need sympathy, but I need money even more, so please send me sympathy money. Haven't decided whether or not the money will be to keep me away or to lure me back. Maybe, if the money is good enough, I'll make it a subscription deal, and occasionally post pictures from wherever the money will get me to. Maybe I'll even invest in a grammar lesson or two at the risk of losing that certain charm I know you’ve come to expect.

I am so glad to see you! even if only for a moment.
After vince3, when someone goes MIA it's a bit worrysome - even when it's a newsome

For me, things are looking up (not to make this about me, but just thought I'd let you know).
DH has a PEG tube which is allowing him to get nutrition without the choking. He's also had botox (no, they would not slip me a tiny bit) for the saliva problems. & my mom is doing pretty good for 82. Thanks for your concern.
