"OT - do your stuff, again."

I keep opening and closing MRCs thread about his friend.
I can remember back when I was a kid; we never said the word 'cancer'. It was referred to as the big "C". It was scary and almost always a death sentence.

My family's world was rocked this past weekend. My dear best sister in the world was diagnosed with breast cancer. I know there are many different kinds of breast cancer, and from what the doctors have said, hers is not life threatening if she gets immediate surgery. She already has appointments with the oncologist & surgeon. They don't wait around.
She's accepted that she will more than likely have a mastectomy. I don't know if the reality of that has really sunk in.

I think she is handling this better than I am. She is the oldest and has always been the strongest. Her husband is the oldest of his family. So they have always been the ones to take charge & 'do' for everyone else.

Now, I need to do for her.
So I'm asking all my friends to pray, to think of her and hold her up with all the healing power we can get.

Thanks everyone. Love to you all.

To not name a thing is to give it power over you. Confronting it head-on this way is the best chance for the both of you.

If she moves fast enough, the cancer may never catch up.

LAST EDITED ON 06-12-12 AT 11:28 AM (EST)

A very good friend of mine died from lung cancer just over a year ago, and another one is currently undergoing chemotherapy.

I sincerely hope your sister gets better. I know you already have more loved ones with medical problems than the best of us can handle.

Jbug, here's to wishing your dear sister prompt treatment and full recovery from breast cancer. Yes, it's your turn to "do" for her, although it sounds like she'll do as much of the doing as she can herself.

My mom had it, twice, both mastectomies, and is doing well at age 75 and physically active at my folks' horse farm.

My administrative assistant also has it, did not have a mastectomy, but is still in chemo treatment. She found it herself and not in a check-up and promptly reported it to her doctor, and they quickly started treatment.

Another colleague of mine is already 6 months past his targeted kick-the-bucket date after a year and a half from esophagus cancer. His prognosis was dim, supposedly a year tops, since it had metastasized, but his treatments have held it in check as he has dedicated himself to charitable causes, particularly for children with AIDS.

Thinking of your sister today as she begins to learn about her options and how to fight this cancer.

Thinking of you, too.

happy dance happy dance happy dance

SissyBug went to the oncologist this morning.
He says the cancer is not in all of the ducts, so they will do a lumpectomy and not a masectomy!
She'll meet with the surgeon next Tuesday to schedule the surgery.

She'll have to have some radiation and then take the 5 year pill.

I know the dangers and problems with radiation, but even that has improved dramatically over the years.

You can not imagine how overjoyed and elated I am this morning.

Thank you all for caring & for your prayers & good thoughts.

Yay!

The shoe is on the hand it fits
There's really nothing much to it
Whistle through your teeth and spit
'Cause it's all right

Oh well, a touch of grey
Kind of suits you anyway
That was all I had to say
It's all right

I will get by
I will get by
I will get by
I will survive

We will get by
We will get by
We will get by
We will survive

We will get by
We will get by
We will get by
We will survive

My Sissy is on her way to see the surgeon today.
OT - keep up the good work.
We want the surgeon to say this will be a very simple surgery to remove that one small spot.
The oncologist has said no chemo - some radiation.
Let's pray they concur.
