Could somebody tell me why Fredo was "chosen" for that submarine ride? Why him and him alone and nobody else? I wondered about that from the time it happened. Did they think he would go back and tell everybody what he saw or what? I can't figure that one out.

I think it's because Fredo had the softest heart, and the producers (who could care less about peoples' feelings, since their main goal was to humiliate) knew he'd have the best reaction for television. I doubt they expected him to do what he did, though - perhaps they were hoping he'd go Incredible Hulk on the himbo, or cry a lot, or something. I'm sure they didn't expect an AVERAGE JOE to have any DIGNITY.
