Please keep all discussion of the top-speed burnoff of Donald's latest (and worst) stooges/episodes on this thread until the West Coast gets a chance to see if we can average one post per hour. (The thread opener doesn't count.) But on the bright side, if Our Favorite Fraud decides to really go for the speed, we could see eight people fired tonight. Or he could try to break his old record and go for nine. (Censored), this double episode could end with the Final Two, a couple of supposed mega-tasks, and twenty-eight seconds of live television where Donald announces the winner, twenty-six seconds of which will be filler. The entire season could be over tonight! The entire series could be over tonight! We'd be free! We'd be saved! We wouldn't have to keep checking out airfares to California!

...what are you looking at?

Estee, must we forget the 1 hour 49 minutes of recarp for a finale and then 10 minutes and 49 seconds of commercials. Also, we have the live announcement in the last 11 seconds of the second hour. No way D can get down to two tonight.

We can hope...but I don't think it is possible.

Oh, please. It's easy. Donald, repeat after me: 'You're fired.' There. Very good. Now just start randomly pointing at people on the other side of the table and keep repeating it. When you're down to a pair of DAWs, stop.

Actually, go ahead and do your own side. Just don't ask me what happens if you wind up pointing at yourself. Other than a truly massive party.

I agree with you on the firing but you know there isn't enough drama in that for the DAW that is D (I don't think).

"See? One down already."

Geez. Could there be any more crying?

Lenny is a dumbass...his mouth is full of marbles and he has no brain. WTF was he doing during the meeting?

"RE: Apprentice #5 Episodes #7 and #8 East Coast Spoiler Thread."
Posted by mysticwolf on 04-10-06 at 09:02 PM
Nothing. He was doing nothing at the meeting unless you count staring at the execs & making them uncomfortable counts.

"And who are we shilling for?"
Posted by Estee on 04-10-06 at 09:02 PM
We are shilling for the Boys & Girls Clubs, which means it's inner-city brainwashing week! Our minicorps each have to rennovate one large room in a club on an unknown budget. They'll be judged on creativity, functionality, and who Donald feels like firing at the time. Three B&GC executives (and how does that group make enough money to have executives?) are the supposed judges.

Lenny is PM for Gold Rush. Lenny wants to do the room around music. Lenny does not have questions for the judges. Lenny doesn't really see a need to conference with the judges. Lenny can't ask good questions during the conference, so what's the point? And Lenny has never heard of our secondary shill, Ace Hardware, which he thinks is a local shop down on the corner.

The editing would like us to think Lenny is in trouble.

"RE: And who are we shilling for?"
Posted by mysticwolf on 04-10-06 at 09:05 PM
Nah. We're shilling for Ace. Our Ace Hardware has had a major ad campaign tying them to Trump going for the last 3 weeks.

I agree with Sean. Michael is a wanker. Geez, how does he decide what to eat for lunch?

"Meanwhile, at Synergy..."
Posted by Estee on 04-10-06 at 09:12 PM
...Michael is PM, and he wants a multi-station lounge that sounds like it's going to cost a lot of money. It sure takes a lot of time to plan out, because Michael keeps his team in conference over paint colors for hours and hours while Gold Rush is busy shopping for supplies and getting their rennovation started. By the time Michael releases the team (and splits them -- Sean's Harem for electronics, the others to Ace), they've got about an hour left to work, and Michael can't make any decision in less than ninety minutes. He has to call the Harem for a consultation on paint colors, which leads to the first-ever Apprentice giggle fit.

The editing would have us believe Michael's in trouble.

Meanwhile, Charmaine will not shut up, and the confessionals are being shot against the world's most obvious greenscreen...

"RE: Meanwhile, at Synergy..."
Posted by mysticwolf on 04-10-06 at 09:20 PM
And Bill does a first ever questioning of Michael's leadership ability, before they've even lost. Which they may not. Because Lenny isn't even there helping with his room. He left 3 behind to do the work while he and ?? are running around getting musical equipment. And, I'm not sure, but I think they're lost getting back. Bill (again), is NOT pleased. Where's Carolyn?

"Can't anybody here play this game?"
Posted by Estee on 04-10-06 at 09:20 PM
Michael has effectively micromanaged himself out of a job: Andrea, after a desperate (and failed) telepathic attempt to keep Bill from quizzing her about this particular boss, seizes the reins and directs the renovation. What does this mean? It means they paint everything that can't get away in time. Pretty much nothing else.

Meanwhile, Lenny and Lee are picking up musical instruments (and getting lost) while the rest of Gold Rush works on their room, which needs painting. And tile. And electric inspection. And there really isn't time or manpower for any of it. Too much vs. too little, led by -- too little vs. too much. Gee, isn't this fun. One of these people will be around for an extra hour. Why?

"RE: Can't anybody here play this game?"
Posted by volsfan on 04-10-06 at 09:24 PM
I would have strangled Michael on the spot (while he was trying to make a decision on the paint color). URGH!

"RE: Can't anybody here play this game?"
Posted by Estee on 04-10-06 at 09:31 PM
I guess his cuteness has worn off.

"Guess what?"
Posted by Estee on 04-10-06 at 09:30 PM
Both finished rooms look -- well, workable, although the tile floor in the dance room leaves something to be desired (like the ability to look at it for more than five seconds), and the lounge has some weird arrangements and a Trump boardgame. But the executives feel that the lounge stressed cooperative activities and multiple possibilities, while the music room was -- music only, and if you didn't like it, you wouldn't use it. So Synergy wins, and Michael skates by on one of the weaker PM performances to date. Lenny & crew are heading to the Boardroom, where Lenny will try to blame everything on Tarek.

"RE: Apprentice #5 Episodes #7 and #8 East Coast Spoiler Thread."
Posted by mysticwolf on 04-10-06 at 09:33 PM
Synergy = Bright colors, mutiple interest areas, Teamwork focused video & board games, music, etc., etc.

Gold Rush = Stark black & white, musical instruments only, headphones for individual musical work, chairs to watch them from.

Duh! Synergy gets to grant a wish to a little girl with cancer. Lee gets to figure out how he can make someone else responsible for his decision & his absence from doing any of the work. Good luck, Lee, you'll need it.

"Reward."
Posted by Estee on 04-10-06 at 09:34 PM
We're now up to a triple-shill with Toys R' Us getting involved, but we'll all forgive Donald for this one, because Synergy is taking a little girl who has brain cancer on a shopping spree. All the toys she wants, because it's her wish and someone had to fulfill it. Just because that someone happened to be Donald, there's nothing wrong with making it come true. So one sincere clap for Donald. Don't make me do it again.

"Excuse me?"
Posted by Estee on 04-10-06 at 09:38 PM
Lee is working with Lenny on a Boardroom briefing sheet. Lee is trying to save Lenny by giving him points to talk about and ways to discuss them. Lee feels Lenny is his friend.

Remember, at this point in time, Lee has not seen the show.

"RE: Apprentice #5 Episodes #7 and #8 East Coast Spoiler Thread."
Posted by mysticwolf on 04-10-06 at 09:38 PM
Lee is doing a wonderful job trying to help Lenny prepare for the boardroom, even agreeing to let Lenny pull him in. Lenny doesn't understand anything Lee is trying to tell him about what he needs to say, and avoid saying.

Lee agrees to be pulled into the boardroom (which will probably end up being a mistake, probably for Lenny, if the last 2 firings are any indicator. Trump doesn't like it when a PM pulls in someone that wasn't at all responsible for the loss.)

"Your opinions..."
Posted by volsfan on 04-10-06 at 09:50 PM
So, was Lee's loyality to Lenny a good thing? Did Lee go down with the ship?

What do you think?

"RE: Your opinions..."
Posted by mysticwolf on 04-10-06 at 09:55 PM
I think Trump appreciated his loyalty, but that won't give him any slack if he screws up a task. I think the team wasn't so impressed with it, and it will hurt him.

"Boardroom #1."
Posted by Estee on 04-10-06 at 09:53 PM
In very brief: Carolyn thinks a broken TV costs no more to replace than a broken drum. Bill doesn't care about what works for the kids, just about what works for the judges. Lee tries to defend Lenny. No one buys it, with the possible exception of Lenny. Our PM decides to haul Charmaine and Lee into the Boardroom. Donald doesn't give him the chance and fires him.

Back in Suite #1, Synergy tells Michael he stunk.

so mind-bogglingly arrogantly stupid--I wish they had lost the task so that she would have been forced to explain those ridiculous hats.

"RE: Apprentice #5 Episodes #7 and #8 East Coast Spoiler Thread."
Posted by mysticwolf on 04-10-06 at 09:58 PM
Trump asks if someone can go from Synergy to help Gold Rush win, as they are a disaster. No one moves, until Michael, having seen the target he painted on himself in the last task, raises his hand to get a fresh start. This makes Synergy almost wet themselves in happiness.

And knowing the irony that MB likes, I would say they lose this task. It is hats you know?

That damn MB! Where is the irony?

Double shill! 7-11 and some guy with a race car. Each team gets a 7-11 and a new sandwich that's two slices of cold pizza with sandwich toppings in between. They have to come up with a promo item to give away and raise awareness of the sandwich. Greatest percentage of sales increase wins. Someone has to even up the minicorp sides at this point, so a rejected-feeling Michael goes to Gold Rush. Synergy feels they've just been given a win.

Andrea PM for Synergy. Cups are proposed as the giveaway item -- drink with your meal? Andrea wants hats. Andrea feels being a control freak is a good thing, at least for the one in control. They're doing hats. End of discussion. Well, that was fast.

Gold Rush = 1 piece for $7.99, 2 for $9 + a can cooler.

Synergy = 1 piece for $4 + a baseball cap

I dunno. With all of the pizza places around a college campus I can't imagine the students paying $8 for a 7-11 pizza sandwich.

"What's a profit margin?"
Posted by Estee on 04-10-06 at 10:09 PM
Doesn't matter: this is about percentage of sales increase! So Leslie, as Gold Rush PM, is going to give away a $15.00 can cooler with each sandwich. They're pricing at $7.99 for one or $8.99 for two, which is going to guarantee them a lot of two-fers and people going in together on orders. Lee doesn't like the price point because the store manager said $6.99, but Charmaine feels he's doing it just in case the rest of them are wrong. Lee does get the store manager to agree to sell no sandwiches but the pizza one all day tomorrow, so a lack of selection may help a little.

Synergy is at $4.00 per sandwich, plus a hat. Sean's Harem spends some time the night before the task handing out promotional flyers, trying to get a jump. Oh, and some race car driver got photographed. Whoever.

"RE: What's a profit margin?"
Posted by mysticwolf on 04-10-06 at 10:12 PM
Good point on the % sales increase. I'd forgotten that. Besides, the trivia questions in order to get the hat is just stupid.

"RE: Apprentice #5 Episodes #7 and #8 East Coast Spoiler Thread."
Posted by mysticwolf on 04-10-06 at 10:19 PM
Obviously Lee forgot that it was % increase, as well. Who cares if you're selling 1000 sandwiches for $2/per instead of $2.50? Yesterday they didn't have any price on them at all. That would have clinched the competition. Too bad he wasn't quite Trump-like enough.

Keep in mind there is some cost to making the sandwich. There may have been thresholds that couldn't be crossed.

Yeah, but it was ultimately all about how low he could get Leslie to go. She didn't think of it, either.

"RE: Apprentice #5 Episodes #7 and #8 East Coast Spoiler Thread."
Posted by mysticwolf on 04-10-06 at 10:35 PM
Absolutely agree, but she wasn't the one that kept compairing himself to Trump. I do think Leslie was perhaps more of a problem, overall, on the task. And, without the cooler, I can't imagine paying that price point.

"RE: Apprentice #5 Episodes #7 and #8 East Coast Spoiler Thread."
Posted by Estee on 04-10-06 at 10:21 PM
See Tarek of Gold Rush trying to lure people in by asking them trivia questions as they pass on the street! And we thought flyers didn't work -- but they are working, because some of the people who got them last night are stopping back to try a sandwich. What's wrong with this picture? Apparently the hats of Synergy are wrong, because Carolyn doesn't understand the promotion. Of course, she also thinks a big-screen TV costs as much to replace as a keyboard.

Lee spends an hour in a Trumplike move, trying to sell a thousand sandwiches to a single office building manager, but the manager wants them at $2.00 each and Lee can't go any lower than $2.50. Bold move, strong move -- but a failed move. Still, some credit for trying. Probably not from Donald, but it was better than the $1,000 glass of lemonade.

"Hard to say anyone failed here."
Posted by Estee on 04-10-06 at 10:30 PM
Oh, who are we kidding? Donald's gonna say it. Gold Rush: 600+% increase. Synergy, 900+% increase. The lower price point carried the day over the better promotional item, but those caps are probably being sold on eBay right now. The reward is breakfast with Senator Chuck after a private jet flight to D.C. Sean tours the White House area and feels proud to be a green-card-carrier-going-on-citizen. This is Sean's 'Love me' moment for non-Harem members. He's probably going to be fired next week.

Lots of Boardroom time available here. This is probably going to be a loud one.

Tarek has gone very silent over the last couple of weeks.

"Boardroom #2."
Posted by Estee on 04-10-06 at 10:41 PM
Well, this is easy. Lee plays up his not liking the price point. Leslie plays up his vanishing for an hour to work on the bulk deal (which it turns out Lee stumbled into: tried for 15-20 and was asked about a thousand) and feels said deal was an excuse for Lee to vanish and nothing more. After no one blames Tarek's trivia questions and the cooler gets some praise, the price point is bashed to the ceiling, Leslie feels Lee disagrees with everyone (except Lenny) just to get ammo, then brings him back and no one else. Charmaine makes a speech to try and slant things towards a Lee firing before leaving. Presumably she's still mad at Lenny. And Lee. And the world.

"Y'know..."
Posted by Estee on 04-10-06 at 10:50 PM
...once in a very great while, Donald cuts through the Boardroom carp and gets to the point. Lee tried. Lee was not the problem. The price point was the problem. Leslie set the price point and wouldn't budge on it despite Lee's suggestions. Leslie brought Lee in for personal reasons, not professional ones, so -- Leslie is fired.

And to all a good night. Huh. He finally got one exactly right...

"RE: Apprentice #5 Episodes #7 and #8 East Coast Spoiler Thread."
Posted by mysticwolf on 04-10-06 at 11:17 PM
Trump asks Leslie who it's going to be. He says she should probably bring back more than one. She doesn't listen and brings Lee alone. Lots of talking, mostly Lee. Bottom line, Lee was right about price point, Leslie didn't listen. Leslie brought Lee back for personal reasons (according to Trump), not because he caused the loss. As has happened in at least the last 2 shows (if not throughout), Leslie didn't take the hint about who to bring in. She's fired.
