"Skeletons in Paul Hogan's closet"

I heard on the news tonight that the Washington Post has uncovered some dirt in Paul Hogan's past. Apparently, Hogan was hired to renovate an eight-acre estate in the Bahamas. He threw a party at the estate, while he was working there, and drank some wine from the owners extensive wine cellar.

I did a quick search on the web and uncovered the following article from the Washington Post website:

"This Time the Butler Did Do It"

Bondage-and-fetish star Sarah Kozer, a George Mason University graduate whose secret soft-porn career made headlines last week, isn't the only "Joe Millionaire" participant with a local angle and a checkered past. We hear that Paul Hogan, the very proper butler on Fox broadcasting's so-called reality show, also boasts a twisted Washington-area connection.

McLean resident Bill Paley, the son of the late, legendary CBS founder William S. Paley, e-mailed us: "Hogan...worked as renovation manager of my house in Nassau, Bahamas (Lyford Cay), just previous to his role as butler. We came to a parting of the ways after it was found that he had drained the entire wine cellar and thrown millionaire-style parties for all his Aussie friends on the island. He obviously landed on his feet."

Paley told our colleague Lisa De Moraes that he'd hired Hogan to oversee some renovations on the eight-acre estate -- where his famous father entertained the high and mighty -- but was ready to fire Hogan last October, after just a few months. Hogan beat him to the punch and quit. Hogan did not respond to a detailed request for comment.

"He was always very hard to get ahold of," Paley said. "I was going to fire him even before I found out that he threw these parties, including a big going-away party for himself, and that he and his friends drank five cases of my wine." Paley added: "It wasn't hugely expensive wine, but it was decent table wine."

Paley said that when he complained to Milwaukee-based Mahler Enterprises, the high-end domestic search firm that had recommended Hogan, "they were horrified."

Yesterday company owner Peter Mahler told us he provided Paley with a replacement without charge. "There was a problem of some kind, but we corrected it," he said, adding that Hogan, who was "highly paid," had worked for other Mahler clients without incident. "It's an unfortunate commentary on American society that, in the challenging times we live in, everyone is watching these reality programs when they could be doing some good in the world," Mahler said. "It's also ironic that this involves Bill Paley, whose father was so instrumental in creating a great television network, CBS."

Paley said he learned only by chance of Hogan's role on "Joe Millionaire." He recounted: "I was up in New York, flipping channels and caught the last two minutes of the first show, and thought, 'Who is that actor? He looks really familiar.' It took me a moment to place that Australian accent. But sure enough, it was my guy."

The first thing that leaps right off the computer screen and into my face is that the guy making the complaint is a SeeBS executive's son. While there may have been a problem or altercation between the two, I would not put it past CBS to lie and embellish something like this. The fact that Hogan quit first might indicate that this problem is much more two-way than is being reported here.

I agree Dawg...sounds like some sour grapes here(lame wine pun intended)

All I know is that I am glad that FOX found him because he is one of the better parts of the show, imagine if we would have had to put up with Alex all the time....I still haven't figured out why they just didn't edit her completely out of the show!

Geez, the thought of that is pretty sickening.

I think Fox is obligated to show Alex for at least one segment. They've elected for that segment to be the build-up to the necklace ceremony. (That also makes sense because Paul is in the background with Evan). I think if Fox could've completely edited Alex out, they would have.

You are probably right on the money there...I am sure that her contract keeps them from editing her out completly.....I wonder who she did a subtitled scene with to get that job anyway?

I think they did great with editing her out. There's nothing missing as far as I'm concerned. Makes me wonder exactly how much of her is on the editing room floor.

This is just speculation, but let's surmise:

Before editing: As an example, I imagine that the girls got together and Alex told them they would be going on dates to the Riviera.

After editing: They show the girls getting on the plane, and voicing over that they're going to meet Evan for a date.

Before editing: Alex probably told them that they'd be going on group dates (kind of like whatshisname telling the guys about their group dates with Trista).

After editing: They just show the dates, and have Evan voicing over.

Before editing: Alex gives them the news about eliminations, now many, etc. (Some of this is shown, but I mean earlier than the final ceremonies).

After editing: Our favourite butler is the one telling them.

Before edting: I imagine that Alex ate group meals with the girls (while another girl would be on a date, etc.).

After editing: They've shown virtually no meals with the girls.

Before editing: Alex probably told the losing girl(s) to say their goodbyes, probably talked to the losing girl(s), etc.

After editing: Paul escorts them out, but clearly after some time has passed.

Add your ideas here.

I'm sure you're right on the money DAWG...I am sure that the producers had orginally planned to show much more of what is going on at the castle while dates were going on, plus I am positive they would have had a more detailed..."how do you feel now that he didn't pick you" segment as each girl was given her walking papers.

All I can say, is that Alex must have really sucked(not the good subtitled kind)for them to edit out this much of the show.

"Upon watching the encore..."

I watched the encore presentation of Joe Millionaire Thursday night, with the express purpose of watching the editing for Paul v. Alex.

Here's one really excellent example: At the beginning, when Melissa is being told to pack, it is very clear that Paul is being dubbed in. They NEVER actually show him with the girls. And one time, it was just his voice asking "Melissa, are you ready?"

I believe that Alex was the one who originally told Melissa to get ready. They went to great pains to dub her out.

Paul does indeed interact with the girls... a few sharp and witty lines. But Alex has been carefully removed. Speculation as to why would be very enjoyable. Very enjoyable, indeed.
