"FONT Tutorial needed..."

Posted by Red Lady on 08-08-02 at 06:09 PM
I have tried...I have really tried...but I just don't get how to change fonts. I've read through the threads here and used the "reply w/ quote" to copy other's examples...but my efforts have proved fruitless!

What I believe I need to do is:
test or
test

The smaller the number means the smaller font...right?
As you can tell...I'm confused! Could someone with enought patience care to assist the lame?

RL, when you link to the HTML Reference (above the message box before you post it, you get a table that includes the font statement and it's possible parameters. Your font statement says font = "5", instead of font size=5, so here is your statement with size 3 font and then size 5 font:

test size 3 font or test size 5 font

So your font parameters include color="color" size="size" face="face", but the parameters do not have to be in quotes(but they could be). The face would be the font name such as times roman or arial. Color can be in hexadecimal code or a color name such as red or blue.

I hope this helps.

Come on in, the water's fine!

Help needed here. GeorgiaBelle created an awesome sigpic for me. How do I credit here with it in my signature? Make font smaller? Read the above, but when editing signature where do you change your font size? Thanks

Edited for cookie break

What are you wanting to do?
1.Change your font color?

2.Type in bold print

3.Type in italics

4.Underline your words

5.Type in hidden font? *Hi there!*

6.Change the size of your fonts?

7.Change font style to this

8.

Center your font

9.

Or just a little of each

I tried to type each thing I did down the line so it would be easier to follow. Hope this helps you, but I would be more than glad to tell you how I did something, if you would like for me to. RedLady it just takes time, but you will get it.

Have a great day! Hope what you want to do was covered.

edited because despite frequent use of the preview button, I am still making dumb typos and not noticing them until AFTER I hit the send button! But hey, I am getting more practice!

edited again because my memory sucks and I can't remember how I did this so wanted to go look at it again. Don't be surprised if I need to do this yet again!!! Plus I want to be cool like Kimp and learn to use invisible font!

Need to prove to myself I can do this!

Hope my posting on this thread is OK even though it will bump it up....

Bold text

Italics

Bold and Italics

Underline

What is this heading 1 you speak of, for I am but a simple caveman....

What is this heading 2? Oh thank heavens for the preview button for it will reveal all

OK then heading 3 must be smaller

and now the big test-- font color and size:

Is it small blue comic sans font? This is size 1

OK! Close enough for me! I am happy enough with arial.

this is font size 3 so is the default size 2? Must be.

Ok I am not nearly as inept as I thought I was.... I still have a lot to learn though....

oops I just realized I need to Un-HTML heading 3 or it will stay big and bold... So, I take back what I said about not being inept. I am such a noobie!!!

Thanks for letting me practice here....

Thank-you Knockers, I didn't think it was that easy.
I thought It would be a process like loading a pic.

I have been trying to do coloured words also and have been unsuccessful.

<"red""10""ariel">(word or sentence)<"red""10""ariel">
Can someone tell me what I am missing or doing wrong ?

No problem.

You need to put the word font= in front of it.
and use these < > symbols.
So for red type it would look like this in order to see this, click on reply with quote. When you hit reply with quote you can see the html that I used. To end it, you would put and that will bring it back to black. Same for font size. And now the type is smaller.
Again, hit reply to quote from my post and it will show all of the ways that I changed the color and font sizes.

Also, when you hit reply, if you look up, it says HTML tags and it is all in red and then in black will say HTML reference. If you click on that it will tell you how to do the bold and italic and underline, etc.

Much thanks, that is exactly what I needed to know.

I finally figured out why I still couldn't get it to work.
Also - I spelled colour (the canadian way)
instead of color....
It was driving me crazy....

My messages always appeared 'normal' (just like everyone else's) and today suddenly it's very small and blue print?? I didn't change anything so I don't know what's going on or how to correct it.

Edited to add: Disregard above - it seems to have magically corrected itself.

Welcome to RTVW Hotchoc.
Hope you're finding your way around.

Now as to your message.
Are you testing font colors?
Cause if you are you did good.
Also on the font sizes.

But you also mention "I don't really get this either...". Implying that you don't understand hidden text.
Are you still wondering about hidden text?
Cause if you did just make an attempt at doing so, I can't see it.

I went through your message and noticed that first, you forgot the closing tag for the "Red 3" font. I've bolded it below.
And second, there was nothing hidden.
>I really don't get this either,
>but I'll try and I'm
>testing whether or not I
>did it right for the
>signature.
> test 3
>
>
>
> Sig by PM
>

And just to let you in on a little secret ... there is a button titled preview at the bottom of each message area. Mods don't really like to have threads littered with "Test" posts.
The preview button will show you exactly how the message will show up on the thread while still offering a chance to make some changes or even back out completely before misposting.
