"PLEASE READ! REAL VS. STAGE PHOTO FOR SHAKESVIVOR???"

Posted by ItzLisa on 05-21-01 at 01:33 PM
Gang, I'm copying and pasting something that I put up on the "Shakesvivor cast photo" thread. The thread is getting really huge, and I was afraid this would get lost in the crowd. It's really really really important, so I wanted to post it seperately!

Some discussion had come up (with awesome graphics by our own IceCat!) about if we should use our real pictures or "stage" ones for our Shakesvivor photos! Some of ya want real pics of yourselves, which I can respect, and some want stage photos, which I, too, am more comfy with. But I just have a bad feeling about real pics, which is all here in what I'd posted below. It starts off with Outfrontgirl replying to something I said, and then me elaborating (no big shocker there, LOL!!!) Here goes....

45. "RE: Shakesvivor Cast Photo "

Outfrontgirl said:
<<I was flirting with the idea of a real pic until ItzLisa made the excellent point about unauthorized users (other than Shakes).>>

***Outfront Girl, I think you were maybe not posting yet or still really new (and mostly over at spoilers) when we got on a bad foot with a couple of trolls, and they haven't left us alone since - and they've posted some truly horrible stuff, babe!

Gang, I know we're just doin' this for kicks and giggles, but I don't want any of this to come back and haunt us later in the form of a Tamia/Supermanssister. I really, truly, pretty please with sugar on top, vote for stage pictures! I know, we can all post what we want, but I just want us all to be protected against troublemakers later on! I loves youse guys, and I don't want someone horrible coming along and taking advantage of the fact that you've got your REAL picture posted here! And Supe and Vamps - just because your pics were up here once shouldn't mean you should play with fire and tempt some weirdo by posting 'em again, m'kay? Luv bugs, I only want us to be all safe later because we took this one safety measure now! This board has been particularly haunted by baddies, more than any other site I've posted at. I just want what's best for us while we get the kicks we're so richly entitled to!

Good idea, ItzLisa, the other thread was getting too cumbersome to load. My reply on it stands: I don't want no stinking trolls using my real pic for their nastiness...

I agree, Itz--besides, why goober up this alternate reality we have going with the facts!

On a more personal note: You post at multiple boards?!!! Good lord, girl, do you have time to do anything else?!!!

Also--for the first time ever, I "watched" Powerpuff Girls--a whole 45 seconds worth, at the end of an episode. They were beating the crap out of an evil clown, my dear. . . What was THAT all about? . . . (Shakes, you'd better beware of this one!)

I've seen this episode, GT -- "Mime for a Change"!

Rainbow The Clown was dosed with bleach from a tanker truck and lost all his color. He turned into an evil mime (does that sound familiar on this board)! Everything he touched drained into soundless B&W (you know you're getting old when you still use B&W as an abbreviation for black and white). He snuck up behind Blossom and Buttercup and drained them as well.

But Bubbles saved the day. She started a song with the Powerpuff Girl band (Bubbles, drums; Buttercup, bass; Blossom, guitar) -- the other girls unfroze and picked up the song, and then the music brought all the color back to Townsville, including to Rainbow. Rainbow thanked the girls for giving him his color back, but they beat him up and put him in jail anyway for all the trouble he had caused.

We could have some interesting debates about whether we agreed with the moral to this story ... though I like its potential application to Shakesvivor ...

*** But, Aya - one of the reasons I love this episode so much is it contains one of my *favorite* drop-dead hilarious things that Bubbles ever did! Ever notice how whenever Bubbles gets upset, she just shrieks hysterically instead of talking? Okay, in this episode, at one point, Bubbles is flying around Townsville, shrieking at the top of her voice about how you can't live in a world without color. If she were a real person, you'd probably have to slap her to calm her down! The mime has just drained a fire-hydrant of it's red, and a car has accidentally parked in front of it. Bubbles goes *nuts*, and is so stressed and upset she picks the car up (with the guy still in it!) and screams "YOU CAN'T PARK IN FRONT OF A FIRE HYDRANT!!!!!" and throws the car!!! I was on the floor laughing, lemme tell ya!

And GT - yeah, the animation is simple to say the least, but I still like it. And the writing is hilarious - there's just something about it that works!

Yes, I've noticed, because my 3-1/2 year old daughter imitates it!

True story: my 5-year-old went on her first outing last month with another family (to see a play being presented by a local university's "early childhood education" program). The mom of this family parked in front of a fire hydrant, because they were close to being late and it was on a weekend. My daughter insisted on telling the mom that her daddy had told her that you never park in front of fire hydrants because the police might tow your car. The mom replied that they were in a hurry, and the car would probably be OK. My daughter didn't give up and said that not only wouldn't her daddy park there, but Bubbles would know better too!

Anyway, they went in to the play, and when they came out ... the car had been towed. My daughter pointed out several more times (on their way to get the car from the impound lot) that she had told them not to park there. (I'm still torn between laughing and cringing when I tell this story.)

THEN I come in here and talk your a.ss off, LOL!!!! (But, Georgia, did you LIKE the PPG?? You have to see the whole episode of that one - "Mime for a Change" - a classic, and hysterically funny!)

Itz--Really, 45 seconds wasn't long enough to form an opinion; it looked like pretty commercial Japanese stuff (an opinion biased by the merchandising I've seen). My youngest is 12, and is quick to groan at this toon in the lineup, so I don't know that I'll really have the opportunity (or inclination) to make it a regular deal. . . This is not to say we are above cartoons, mind you! I think I've been spoiled by the likes of Dangermouse and Rocko's Modern Life, both of which took cartoons to a much higher standard! (Haven't seen others integrate such excellent character development, storylines, or soundtracks). I wiil give you points for not resembling Ren & Stimpy's uglified minimalist approach (which I find utterly repulsive)!

Does no one remember Dangermouse?! British cartoon, aired on Nickelodeon in the early days. Super-cool secret agent, à la James Bond; sidekick was Penfold (Oooh--ACK!), a mole or something myopic, and the main nemesis was Baroney, a cigar-chomping . . . toad? Very sophistcated fare, that was.

"Dangerman"

GT: Dangermouse was actually a parody of Danger Man, which was the British name for Secret Agent, Patrick McGoohan's show that morphed into The Prisoner. Of course, Danger Man itself was a James Bond ripoff/parody.

Aya K,
Our (Berkeley) totem is Oski the Golden Bear, once kidnapped for a season or so by Stanford.

I love your story. Your daughter has already learned to back up her opinion with a minimum of two unimpreachable sources.

Methinks the writers of the Mime episode adapted (to be nice) their idea from Yellow Sumarine, no?--The Blue Meanies Attacking Pepperland and SGT. Pepper's LHC Band. Although those rescuers were happy to be of service and to restore color and music to the land. How times have changed.

To DK, I'm a feline at heart too. My screen name over at ss.com was Kitty O'Shea. Great pics. I'm jealous!

Since I know so little about you, I don't have a lot to go on.

With your name, "Outfrontgirl", the first thing that came to mind is a ship figurehead (what I consider to be a girl "out front". I have been unable to locate an appropriate pic to post (because I don't want to offend you), but I did find a site that has quite a few to choose from. Whether you use one of these is up to you, and I apologize if you don't agree. Just trying to help you out here!

"The figurehead embodied the spirit of a ship and was originally believed to placate the gods of the sea and ensure a safe voyage."

Perhaps you should list some of your hobbies, favorite characters, etc. That would help to narrow the search down, and perhaps find one that you agree with.

Thanks, Outfrontgirl. After I got over being mortified (the other parent was clearly none too pleased by all the events), I was proud of her. She understood incorrect behavior and stood up for her beliefs as best she could, not backing down even though her friend's mom disagreed with her. Of course, we need to work on how to be a gracious winner...

>Methinks the writers of the Mime episode adapted (to be nice)
>their idea from Yellow Submarine, no?--The Blue Meanies
>Attacking Pepperland and SGT. Pepper's LHC Band.

The core idea was stolen, but (as ItzLisa points out), the execution is very different. At first, Bubbles takes her crayons and tries to color in Townsville (which is why she isn't with her sisters when they get ambushed)... the music part is an afterthought, not the whole point of the story. I should add that both my daughters love Help but were completely bored by Yellow Submarine ... even though they repeatedly listen to the "songtrack" CD from the movie.

"Sig/Pic for Sleeeve"
Posted by sleeeve on 05-21-01 at 08:03 PM
Okay, I've been loking for a sig pic for months, and now that I'm on a deadline (so that Ice Cat doesn't come up with an embarassing pic of me), I have to ask for help...

What I visualize for my sig pic is an animated gif of a long-sleeve shirt that raises it's arm, and a thumbs-up comes out of the end of the sleeve, then retracts, and the sleeve goes back down again...

I know how to do the animation, but I am not artistic... so I have been looking for any gif where a long-sleeve shirt raises it's arm, then puts it back down by it's side... I saw one years ago, but did not bother to save it, and now I can't find it again...

The shirt can be on a person (I can edit out the person, and add the thumbs-up), but it needs to make the appropriate movement by itself (that's the part I don't want to try to draw/animate)...

Also, years ago, I saw a long-sleeve shirt that raised it's sleeve and waved... if anyone can find this again for me, I will be forever in your debt, because I've been looking with no luck, and it was really cool!

Of course, anything else relevant would also be appreciated!!!

Thanks everyone!
