Let's start a pool and see who can guess the date this show gets mercifully cancelled.

Here is the relevant info....Monday's show drew a mere 4.5 million viewers and every episode has lost on average 1 million viewers from the previous episode. You don't need to be a tv expert to realize that that isn't very good news for "Forever" Eden.

My guess is that they'll keep the show around long enough so they can end it during May sweeps in the hope that it can draw some viewers for the ending.

So, my guess is May 21, 2004 for the finale.

Plus, this will give FOX a chance to hurry up and put together a Paradise Hotel 2 in time for the summer.

Hmmm. Well, they have to air twenty-five episodes: that's the contract number, and the penalty for breaking it is probably something heroically excessive. (Given that they've apparently spent twenty million on the area, additional costs would not be welcome.) And there's only so quickly they can air them: they need time slots to fill where the ratings loss won't matter much. Four episodes aired so far... they might be able to get three a week if they push it, but two is more likely over the long term, and there may be AI-crowded weeks where they can only manage one...

I'll take May 30th, 2004. Two-hour 'special', just in under the sweeps deadline (if they count the whole month) and requiring some very short spacing between episodes up until that point.

There's no way FOX spent $20 million on this show. The whole purpose of having reality shows like this on television is that they're cheap to put together, so spending that type of money doesn't make sense. PH ratings were okay and that wouldn't justify FOX handing out that much cash and saying 'do what you want' on a show that is a carbon copy of another reality show. If they did, they're CRAZY. Also, they can't afford to keep this going when the current weekly average is under 5 mil. viewers and dropping. That said, my guess is that double episodes could start as early as next week with the finale on April 26th. I would be surprised if it airs after that.

is that they're cheap to put together, so spending that
type of money doesn't make sense.

If you see it as a one-time investment defrayed over three years, three decades, three centuries, it makes a very small amount of sense. But that means going in believing the series will last that long.

I'm willing to bet most of that was set construction: they either had to build their own hotel or find one that was doing so badly that a perpetual pool of eleven guests looked good, then purchase it.

PH ratings were okay and that wouldn't justify FOX handing out that much cash and saying 'do what you want' on a show that
is a carbon copy of another reality show. If they did, they're CRAZY.

This is FOX. Your point is...?

I took that twenty mil figure from the http://ilovereality.com/Forever_Eden/news.html article. I am considering the source on accuracy, but renovating your own hotel isn't cheap. And in the ongoing costs department, figure in one twenty-four hour on-call production staff.

Explains a lot about why the prizes are so cheap. There's no money left.

Doh, if I were playing, I would choose Estee's as well. American Idol ends that week as well, Fox could bill it as a "week of Finales".

On the other hand, as long as Fox has AI mania, they'll continue to win Sweeps no matter what crap they show. I'll go with the end of Summer. (Sept. 1) If we see Zack, Amy, or Toni during May sweeps, we know that Fox is giving this show one last gasp.

The biggest problem the show has right now is A) no one gives a crap about any of the characters, B) the "rules" are insane.

The past two Mondays of ratings -- from the first two episodes that aired without an American Idol lead-in -- have to be a wakeup call to a FOX network that only a month earlier was drawing 15-18 million for a Big Fat Fiance show in the same exact timeslot.

Given that, the first thing I expect to happen is some REAL BIG BAD APPLE that causes like half the cast to be washed away in favor of some contestants that people might exactly care about. The only question is if those replacements will be some of the former Paradise Hotel folks or if FOX will want to keep the Paradise Hotel alumni's away from this thing so that it doesn't taint what everyone would assume would be the launching of a "Paradise Hotel 2" replacement series in time for the summer.

Maybe they can get some of the former Big Brother folks to move in -- their CBS contracts are all well past by now and after a few years, at least some of them must be tired of hanging out at Belly's every day... and let's face it, four grand a week is more $$$ than any of them are likely to be making anytime soon.

For a $200,000/year salary they should be able to have gotten MUCH better talent.

I'm going with June 14. By that time it will be nice and hot down there, unlike many of the participants. And June 14 is Flag Day. What better way to honor the USA than by taking this show off the air. I also think that FOX will find a way to spice it up and bring people in to watch in the ensuing weeks. Any network that can air something like MBFG Fiance could actually pull that off.

I agree with you completely, SB. But isn't this show supposed to go on "Forever"...?

You can change the set and the premise, but FE points out how important it is to get the right mix of contestants. What would Fox give for another Zack/Amy combo?

Go ahead. Bite the apple.

Therein lies the rub. I don't think it'd matter who they brought on -- they'd all end up just like the ones who are already there. There's NOTHING for them to do to interest us. The soap opera element rots, there's no real physical interest (ala Survivor/Fear Factor/etc.), there's no plot. This is the show's premise:

"What if we get a bunch of single people together at a permanently open wet bar?"

Not exciting enough? Throw in some arbitrary 'rules' and make the contestants vote each other off so you don't have to worry about audience input. Blehh. Boooooooooooooring.

Now put the lot of them in the Brazilian rainforest with a survival kit and a pup tent and we're in business.

That is so true. Even when the former contestants come back, their minds are blown by how insane all the remaining contestants "have become" -- so its sort of a clinical psychiatry experiment, if you ask me!

i say April 26th...no season finale no nothing...Forever Eden will just fall off the face of the earth and no one will notice, except us...and none of us will be upset except maybe a few, no gold coins will be exchanged for money...they will have to paddle there own good looking spoiled butts out of eden, fly coach all the way home with many lay overs and then finally get home...point of this pointless babbeling is i think there will be no finale...take a wild guess but gotta bet big to win big!

Am I correct to assume that they are still taping the show and we are seeing it 2-3 weeks after the tape? And those poor pathetic souls are still there?

"RE: Try to guess the date this show gets cancelled (win valuable prizes)"

As far as we know. The time before event and episode is no more than a month, based on Khalilah's 'It's February and I'm in a pool!' Since the show hasn't been officially canceled yet, they're definitely still filming. There's no breaks in Eden. It goes on forever, you know. Or at least 24/7.

The time taken up in each episode is starting to become an unanswerable question. There's hints that a week is covered in #3 and #4, but we're only seeing the portions that take place around the arrivals and departures. When things aren't in flux, Eden is a very boring place.

(Yes, I know: how is that different from when things are in flux?)

I would assume if they are in Jamaica or somewhere "sunny", they should fill up the time between "arrival" and "boot" with scenes of the women sunbathing on the beach in slow motion. It worked for Baywatch for several seasons.

I still can't believe they give them 6 days to scheme on ways to avoid being the next boot without any logic behind it.

Lets see..4.5 mill the first week and losing 1 mill a week. Doesn't that mean that -.5 mill will watch this week? I am part of the -.5 mil.
O.K. I was going to try and get in some Love Cruise smack but I have kinda wore that out for now.
I will say they cancel it Monday April 5th.

excellent point, wch.
It can't lose a million viewersa week now because they don't have a million to lose. They'll at least have 1 Nielsen box set to it on Thursday ...

I haven't seen or read anything about why the change from Monday to Thursday, but a time-slot change is often the first clue to an early demise.

I'm still going to take the longshot and guess that at some point this show picks up some steam. Once it does, it will become a staple in our homes until 2007, when a maniac named Dave -- after extensive plastic surgery -- appears on the show as a dorky Northeastern know-it-all who is exceptionally good at tennis and exhibiting his "manteets."
Dave also smuggles a semi-automatic gun into "camp" and kills three contestants, one crew member and wounds five others, including his love interest, before being taken alive in a hostage standoff. Ruth is taken with the hostages and she overpowers Dave and saves the day. Of course, the show gets pulled off the air two weeks before the event so all we get to do is read about it on this message board.

Like I said, I'm taking the longshot.

I guess it will go on forever! - Or at least until the end of broadcasting as we know it. (No one's taken that position yet, so this is a canny move, I think - although admittedly there may be a little difficulty deciding when I should be named the winner).

Don't scoff too soon. It could happen, if they move it to FX. They could also go a little more graphic on cable, drawing in more of the core demographic of leering losers. It could trundle along with an audience of a million or so trouserless troglodytes, and never end.

My alternate pick is April 8th.

I'll pull for CSTL to win and for the insanity to end next week, but I'll be gracious and say that it dies on Tax Day. I mean, after Survivor, we'll all be finishing our taxes.

The main problems with this show are:
1. Characters you hate or don't care about
2. No character development - you don't know them well enough to care.
3. WE want romance and friendships, not just the drama of the "revenge show".

Give me May 3. I don't think it will last that long, but all the interesting dates are taken (just like prom night).

Maybe they'll push it into May for one sweep week, and use it to promote their next debacle:

My Big Fat Obnoxious Tumor -- Surgical interns compete for the opportunity to remove the spleen, liver, pancreas and funny bone from a large guy with a red light bulb for a nose.

I'm not sure if this means anything but...

Naveen is a call screener err.....DJ at a local radio station here in PDX. They said that she was going to be back in April, the 26th to be exact. Now, I don't know if this means that she will be the only one who will be "back" or if the whole show is canceled, but my bet is on the latter.

P.S. - She ain't too smart obviously.

Well according to the FOX website the show isn't on tonight. It is on Thursday night. So they are already moving it into a timeslot against The Apprentice and CSI. Do they really think it will pick up viewers in that slot?

I have never watched this show because I didn't know what it was. The ads were confusing and felt unless they could tell me what this show was about in it's 30 seconds then I don't need it. Too mnay reality shows as it is.

From what I understand it's not much different than Paradise Hotel and that show was painful.

Was Paradise Hotel painfully good or painfully bad?

As I recall, there were some very spirited discussions, summaries and contestant bashing at the time.

The problem is that Forever Eden doesn't have the same kind of drama that P-Ho demonstrated.

Well people, for some odd reason I feel that June 3rd will be the last show. The producers of the show are probably getting a little desperate right now, since the ratings suck. So hopefully they will start being more creative so they can pull in some more viewers. But I really doubt the producers are that smart?? So my bet is for June 3rd.

Isn't PIS cancelled as well? Or was that the point. Sorry, I'm a little slow today (as in all days). If FOX is bothering you for a summary, then that's your tough luck. I'm doing nothing more for them until they put Wonderfalls back on air - and start paying the Simpson's cast the money they deserve (except whoever does Lisa).

Isn't PIS cancelled as well? Or was that the point.

Pretty much. A show doesn't have to exist to be summarized. In fact, not having it exist is sort of freeing. I've been merrily summarizing PIS since it went off the air and in my skewed opinion, the show's been a lot easier to deal with. Of course, no one's been reading those summaries, but that's what you get when you deal with the lost: a built-in silent audience.

So go ahead and write a summary for the eighth episode of FE anyway. It's not as if anyone's going to be able to contradict your statements for a few months, right? And with no readers to deal with, you won't have to worry about making any mistakes. ;>

I watched the first couple of episodes but the show lost me when:

1) They moved it around to different nights and I couldn't figure out when it was on.

2) The didn't do a very good job of character development. Some people weren't around long enough for you to get to know them enough to care whether they got sent home or not.

A lot of people didn't take those posters seriously, but (guess what?) it looks like they were right.
