"SS likes and dislikes"

Posted by Ahtumbreez on 10-16-08 at 12:07 PM
I know, I know....you haven't even received your giftee yet and here is a thread for likes and dislikes. (If you're reading this and haven't checked your inbox lately or haven't sent me a PM then please do so now. There are only two of you that are keeping me from a good night's sleep )

So anyway - post your likes, dislikes, wants, allergies here. Because sooner or later you will have a SS giftee

Have fun. Be honest. Be extravagant, well 10 dollars worth of extravagant anyway!

Something Dodger related is more than welcome, of course. But any baseball goodie would be fine, too. well, maybe we should discount that team from a big-city-in-Pennsylvania-not-Pittsburgh ifyouknowwhatImean.

If no baseball, then something clever about your local tourist-traps historical sites or points of interest.

As a last resort - a gift card from eBay, Amazon, or Best Buy will do .

Love: Christmas ornaments, especially from your city/state/province, etc. Tacky ones are super cool too.
Weird Al, humor books, logic problems, books with interesting facts about your area, dark chocolate, Phil Keoghan, Phil Keoghan covered in dark chocolate

Dislikes: perfumy stuff -- vanilla is OK, the rest trigger allergies
mild nut allergy (so if dark chocolate covered Phil Keoghan may contain traces of nuts -- that's OK, send him anyway. Just remember the air holes)
Rod Stewart.

BBL if I think of anything else.

Wonders if a Phil Keoghan Bobble Head doll's head will still bobble after all the dark chocolate is licked off...

And I would keep the licked Phil bobble head on my bed side table since someone *glares in Mr. Qwerty's direction* took exception to the framed picture of Phil and me I had there. *rolls eyes* Go figure!

Do I need to google water globes or are those the same as snow globes.

Secret Santa'd by Shar 2008

I'm going to have to enlist the help of OT one of these days, because when I was on the truck I started collecting Christmas ornaments from each state, had to have the state's name on it. I did not finish the collection and I hate un-finished collections. I will have to take inventory when I put the tree up. DH is still erratically bringing them home for me. He took a tour of NASA recently and brought one home for me from there. My favorite is still Washington state, each letter is a pic of the state flower, or killer whale or ocean scene, etc...it's beautiful.

Yu-Gi-Oh cards and tins. The new thing is called 5 D's......

Gift cards for Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy

Cash is always welcome, but a check would be safer, I guess.

Something Steelers, Pirates, Penguins related. (If you're gonna try for clothing, 3XL would be good, 4XL might better.....)

* Spiritual stuff (crosses, pictures, knick knacks, etc)
* Animal lover
* Nature lover
* All types of music (maybe a mixed CD of YOUR fave songs)
* Kites
* Holiday decorations
* Books
* Stickers (hip, cool, interesting kinds to put on my guitar case)
* Sports (baseball, football, NASCAR mainly) (Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Indianapolis Colts, and any non-sucky drivers!)
* Coffee mugs
* Pampering stuff
* Anything, really...I'm not hard to please!
* Three (since I have three daughters....I have an angel candle holder with 3 angels on it, pins with 3 'blank', etc.)
* Wine and accessories
* Journals/Stationary
* Schnauzer stuff/Siamese stuff/general cat stuff

Dislikes:

I really can't think of anything.....yet!

While I'm an Angel fan, I still don't hate the Dodgers, as my dad took me to lots of games when I was a kiddo. My mom and step-dad brought me into the Angel family!

I think I am fairly easy...Christmas-wise that is!

Likes:

*Antique or old fashioned Christmas ornaments
*Scented candles..anything but vanilla. Love pumpkin and cranberry and all christmassy-type scents
*goofy socks or warm fuzzy socks (I have regular feet, so most socks should fit!)
*dark chocolate
*dark roast coffee
*funky ethnic jewellry and silver
*LOL cats
*almost all food with few exception (see below)
*spice mixes, gourmet mixes, etc..
*any type of cookbook!

Dislikes
*vanilla scents
*brussel sprouts
*ham
*grumpy people

I am sure I would love anything that a secret Santa would send. I must say...again..that whomever my SS is...you need to send my package at least three weeks before Christmas! Things typically take 3 weeks to get to Canada from the US. I get enough stuff from ebay to know this! Customs hold things up forever!!The same will go for any of the Canadian peeps receiving from US peeps. Funny enough, when I receive things from England, they take about a week and a half. But, I could receive something from a two hour drive away across the border, and it would still take three weeks! Thanks in advance to my SS!

I'm easy. No allergies except for bees. They'd be hard to ship during the winter anyway.

I doubt I'll be decorating for Christmas, we didn't always even when we were both here, so holiday decorations/ornaments would go to waste. I have plenty of candles and other table-top stuff, besides, dusting isn't my strong suit. I can't wear perfumes, not because I'm allergic, but because others I interact with are.

Maybe, something to help me relax, laugh, or brighten my day - like bath stuff, a book, a treat to eat - cheese, meat/seafood/pate, a spread or regional treat, chocolate (I like nuts, crunchy stuff, chewy stuff - not creams so much) - a throw or something comfy to wear or curl up in/with helping keep the heating costs down...

If it's something I'll "see", as opposed to, for instance, consume, color would be good. I have enough grey in my life right now, and winter around here doesn't contain a lot of color.

I dunno... I like surprises. Whatever someone chooses will be fine; it's more about the commeraderie.

Oh, and those of you that aren't my SS? Drop me a PM at some point during the holidays, please. I've a sneaking suspicion I'll need them, and they really mean more than I can say.

Well, now that I've finally PM'd Tummy, I feel entitled to write this list.

Likes:
- something you made yourself, or that would remind me of you
- something souvenir-y from your area
- dark chocolate is always welcome, as are other goodies
- scented oils (We have a scented oil warmer, but no oil left.)
- scents: anything fruity, vanilla
- votive holders (I seem to have misplaced all of mine but one.)
- measuring spoons (Need new ones.)
- variety puzzle books
Hobbies: knitting (pretty good at it) and crochet (beginner)

Dislikes:
- scent: lavender
- bricks of fruitcake
- coconut

That's probably enough, right?

Anything with a mermaid or starfish on it, but make sure the mermaid is G rated

A cat or mermaid calendar for 2009

funny socks or Christmas socks

Biography books

Anything Lush - I've never tried it, so anything would be fine.

A bottle of OPI nail polish - surprise me with the color.

Anything special from your hometown

I'm not asking for candy or food, because I'm kind of picky about those things.

ETA: I don't drink coffee, tea, or alcohol.

I'm not really a Christmas kind of person (long story) - I don't go for schmaltzy or sentimental stuff so no ornaments or inspirational stuff. I would rather have humorous stuff. I like anything that makes me laugh so hard that I cry.

I love the 3 things that are said to be good for your health these days: tea, red wine and dark chocolate. I guess that makes me a health food nut. I am a tea fanatic - anything tea related is good: loose teas, green teas, specialty teas, tea pots, tea cups, tea cozies, tea wallets, etc. I'm also kind of an outdoorsy person at times - I like hiking, kayaking and camping. Anything with a moose on it is a big hit with me.

As far as dislikes, no hats or t-shirts.

1. My current obssession is the Twilight sereies. I've got all the books, the movie is coming out in November but I'm not sure what merchandising will be available. Anything Edward Cullen related would be sned me into a tizzy of happiness. I'm so crazy in love with Edward.
2. I'm still a big Harry Potter fan, so any type of Potter Trinket (e.g. mug, socks, lighting bolt scar) will be loved
3. Durable toys for my puppies. They're both "aggressive chewers" so stuffed toys are out. The dogs love to tear the stuffing out.But I'm not so fond of cleaning it up.
4. Anything homeade.
5. Chocolate/Salt Water Taffy
6. Barnes & Noble
7. Bath & Body Works
8. The Dallas Cowboys
9. Tea
10. Slippers

Things I'm not fond of:
Anything pink
Vanilla

I'll be back to add more.

I'm a guy, so of course I like sports. And beer. (And sitting on the couch drinking beer and watching football, but that's hard to package into a SS holiday gift.) Sports-related items from your hometown are good for me, and the more obscure, the better. If your local single-A baseball team has a funny name, so much the better-- a T-shirt (size XL) would be great.

Aside from sports, I like trinkets from different places. I collect Hard Rock Cafe pins, so that's an idea if there's one nearby. Kitschy souvenirs are fun too.

If my SS lives nearby, babysitting would be greatly appreciated.

Since I'm a guy, I don't need any LUSH, bath oils, candles, or similar things. (If I get the urge for any of those, I can steal borrow them from DW.) DW has enough Christmas decor to outfit Hearst Castle from top to bottom, so I don't need any more of that kind of thing either.

I'm easy to please, and I'm confident my SS will do a good job.

Kidding aside, there was a serious question in there, and I need to answer it: Yes, hometown team apparel is an excellent idea for me.

Karchita was my SS last year, and one of the gifts she sent me was a Seattle Mariners T-shirt. And I still wear that shirt.

Max's list pretty much mirrors mine, except send HR pins to him.

Don't need babbysitting, so substitute Olga Kurylenko for that. If you haven't heard of her, watch "Hitman". Olyphant is the treat there for those not prone to be impressed with Olga. I heard she's going to be a Bond girl sometime in the future. I want her to be a Kingfish groupie.

Prefer stuff with local flavor, Sable hat (sorry Peta, they are cool) from Russia, moose jerky from Alaska, cacti from New Mexico, money from Wall street, diamonds from South Africa (or Canada), toque from Canada, gold nuggets from California, Salmon from Washington, or wherever, things like that.

Tees are ok, XL. If I ever meet Max again I'll need a newer Survivor shirt than he has. By then I'll also probably need a XXL (sigh).

Originalty, humor, surprise, heartwarming....

No candles or fruit cake.

But if Olga shows up, my SS will get in return, a slavishly devoted friend for life.

Wow! Is it "that time" already?! thinkin' about what I like and dislike? I had more fun reading this list and seeing all your names again, too. I'd like to give an OTer a SS gift this year, so I'll throw myself into the mix.

I'm happy to report things are going well for me.

Allergies:
capsacin (the molecule that makes food spicy) so, no hot chili peppers etc.

Dislikes: or "doesn't make sense for me"
-No real sense of smell so "scented" doesn't work for me.
-I don't wear make-up or perfumes.
-I do not have pierced ears.

Likes: (not easy..)
-Anything penguin(s).
-I have nothing "Christmasy." no ornaments, etc.
-FUN keychains, T-shirts or other mementos of where you live, love to be, etc. (still wearing the Oklahoma T-shirt!)
-flavored coffee (surprise me!)

I like surprises, too. There are a lot of creative peeps here on OT, and I have been THRILLED with my SS every year, and I will be happy this year, too, I am sure.

And, I read the "mail to Canada three weeks early" comment..Yeah, boy HOWDY is THAT true! (Hi, Coconut!)

I don't see what the issue is - I'm very safe. I usually light up my open concept kitchen/dinning room/living room with candle light only. I think it's beautiful. Don't do it every week or in the summer as I don't have air conditioning and it makes the rooms warmer.

I also didn't know you had to be 'normal' to be a part of OT. ;)

Hey, when did we institute this new rule around here?? Well, I guess I'll be going, then. I know, I know, "Don't let the OT door hit you in the a$$ on your way out, grit."

Last report is that Kingfish has it. Does "Kingfish" fish?
In that case, great. It's probably sitting in a swamp with a pole sticking out of the leather seat.

What can I say, I like the good smells.

And the hatpins are those little pins that are sports logos and stuff that you pin on a hat, not the kind that holds a hat on your head.

#1. Winter is coming. I am going to freeze to death. The answer? A 8,212 MW space heater to keep me toasty. Being magnanimous, I will share with Qwertypie. If it leaks, I will share Godzilla II with Estee.
No, wait. She can have ALL of Godzilla II. I'm generous, as well as the other ous.

#2. I have problems telling time from dull watches. What can I say?

#3. We need some fresh air occasionally, and I like old cars. Just buy the ticket and I'll send you a really nice
post card.

#4. So, I get lonely. Who doesn't? Since I'm in a travelling mood, why not send me another ticket to visit my new friend?
No, he doesn't come in a can.

~The Army of foonermints!

On the other hand, we like dark chocolate, and many edible things(Note: fruitcake is not considered as edible, however if we get a fruitcake and the nuklear plant, I will make a "Godzilla Fruitcake" for all OT to share).
Still love garden art, and anything from YOUR neck of the woods. Seeds that will grow in SoCal are good too. Love sunflowers, morning glories and the like. After painting the house, Mr. Mints will probably try his upside down tomatoes again.
An ornament for the tree is also good. What's to say? We like lots of stuff.

Well since the Fooner's posted I guess I should get on the ball also.

Likes

I'm easy, something from your neck of the woods.
I'm a T-shirt junkie much to DW's dismay (Large)
I also enjoy beer related items from local microbreweries. I collect pint glasses...and I've been known to use them occasionally.
I also partake in iced tea and always like to try new kinds.
I also like the outdoors so feel free to send me some of yours

Dislikes
Smelly girlie stuff. I live with 4 women and I'm sure we have enough of that already.

Apologies I am so late to this party. I wasn't intentionally trying to drive my SS crazy (unless my SS is fooner or qwerty!)

Likes:

Love to read - fiction usually.
Like to watch movies (the Casino Royale DVD is on my wishlist)
Like casual clothes (sweatshirts and that sort of thing) - large preferred (cause of my well developed torso!)

Dislikes:

Don't really dislike anything except maybe chocolate which DW would probably end up eating. Probably going to cut out the booze again for a few months like I did last year so please don't send alcohol.

My request? Please do not go overboard like my SS did last year (thanks again fooner - it was almost worth it!). I would sincerely appreciate any thought/any gift. And don't worry about it arriving after the holidays - I realize this feedback is late and I understand the challenge of shipping across the border.

You don't know what "overboard" is.

"RE: SS likes and dislikes"
Posted by qwertypie on 11-17-08 at 09:31 PM
But, I think he gets the idea of what "waterboard" must feel like.

And since Bullzy is now officially in a "have-not" province, if his SS is on the north side of the border, I am sure any extra Canadian Tire money lying around would be greatly appreicated. (See - I'm still being super nice to our Ontario peeps )

"Oh No"
Posted by foonermints on 11-17-08 at 10:07 PM
"Canadian Tire Money" would be "overboard".

What is "Canadian Tire Money"? You guys sure are strange up there in the frozen North.

"RE: Oh No"
Posted by qwertypie on 11-18-08 at 00:11 AM
Canadian Tire is a chain of stores that sells automotive stuff, hardware, plumbling, small appliances, etc.
When I was stuck in beautiful Fort McMurray (check that out on a map to see what a frozen wasteland that was!), it was THE place to shop.
If you pay in cash, interact, or by Canadian Tire credit card, you get a certain percentage back in Canadian Tire money that you can use towards future purchases at the store. (I think the donominations run from $0.05 to $1.00) Some charities will accept Canadian Tire money and the store will pay them in "real" cash
