"Ways X-Factor is different from American Idol."

1. Bikini Girl vs. Commando Guy
2. Three/four/three panel of judges vs. four/four/stay
3. 100000000000000% yes vs. 'Yes'.
4. Giant Xs over the stage which can be lit up to indicate displeasure with a performance -- oh, wait...
5. Contestants under fifteen and over thirty instead of ones who just look like it.
6. Coke vs. Pepsi.
7. Endless promotion of sob stories vs. endless promotion of sob stories with commercial break interruptions.
8. Too much annoying forced interaction with a pointless host vs. just having a pointless host who does nothing and thus proves his pointlessness.
9. Loving everyone no matter what vs. 'You svck.'
10. Drunk Paula vs. Stoned Paula.

You may have to look extra-closely on that last one.

Welcome to The Clone Wars.

11. The revolving judge's seat changes in a single week.
12. Humiliation and praise are magnified when auditioning in front of a live arena audience.
13. One judge doesn't cow to Cowell and gets it right.
14. Google vs Microsoft.
15. The sliding soundboard shots give you fair warning to hit the mute button.

Maybe it's just as well I was watching Survivor last night. I guess I didn't miss much.

16. X-Factor airs at the same time as another major RTV show.

I think American Idol also aired at the same time at Survivor -- at least, last season it did so.

Come to think of it, I think you're right about last season, one reason I why I ended up skipping Survivor: Redemption Island as DW liked to watch AI more. These days, I'm recording both.

AI wouldn't get beaten in the overnight ratings by a sitcom. X-Factor had its rear definitively kicked by the extended Pritchard clan.

http://www.realitytvworld.com/news/the-x-factor-debut-thumped-in-ratings-draws-only-12-million-viewers-12697.php

Not only that, all the criticisms we've been throwing at AI for years -- pushed storylines, producer manipulation, and stunt casting among the auditionees -- just came home to roost here. The original may get away with all of it under a sudden grandfather clause, but the new kid is getting the full weight of every last theft thrown at them by the critical non-law.

Increase the prize, increase the attention -- but so far, not the viewership.

ETA: The show went from 12.5m during the premiere to 11.9 for Episode #2, this time getting beaten up by the well-known bully association of Hofstadter, Milton, Cooper, Fowler, Wolowitz, Rostenkowski and Koothrappali.

So much for Simon's workout program.

That is a major difference! American Idol would never be beaten in the overnight ratings by a mere sitcom!

I think the viewing audience got spooked by this show from the beginning.

At the rate this season is going, only two days in, this show is half a step in the grave already.

More out-of-order footage. And we're not talking about shots of audience applause (although the Worsters claim more splicing than a genetics experiment): cities. Look at the original audition dates:

Los Angeles, California May 8 and 9, 2011
Chicago, Illinois May 19 and 20, 2011
Newark, New Jersey June 8 and 9, 2011
Miami, Florida June 14 and 15, 2011
Dallas, Texas June 21 and 22, 2011
Seattle, Washington June 28, 29, and 30, 2011
Unknown date(s)/location(s): YouTube finds perform.

Right. We're not exactly getting events in the sequence they originally took place. And this is made all the more awkward by Cheryl having been present at the Chicago auditions. Which kind of makes you wonder if we'll ever see the Chicago auditions, or if they were just merged with the L.A. people with no notice about the change in venue...

So have we seen TCO yet? Maybe not. They could be saving hir for last -- wherever their 'last' takes place.

The latest rumors on Stacey Francis (the struggling single mother whose talent was kept down by The Man, or at least The Men) is that she's pretty much inventing every last bit of her dire straits. We've had early indications and doubts before, but more semi-details are emerging.

According to the tales, she's auditioned for a prior singing competition -- BET, gospel -- and she made it onto a summr show called Beverly Hills Fabulous. (Claimed first husband producer, second BH dentist.) Which doesn't exactly imply a life of poverty, but the rich can be talented too. It just doesn't sell as well.

Oh, and while she was on the show? She was very happy about being pregnant. By someone who was not her husband.

If all this is true... well, we've had Idols work their past to make themselves more sympathetic, but X-Factor contestants sew from the spool of lies. After all, it's five million dollars! And under California divorce laws with her husbands at the top of their games, her average was probably under three...

Idol has its fail after the season. X-Factor went for 'during'.
