who don't take care of themselves"

Or so said Larissa on her jacuzzi date with Sean. Yet Michael C. is out for saying fat people are lazy. Neither is very nice, but aren't they different ways of saying the same thing?

And the hypocrisy flows.

Hypocrisy is not just a metal band but Larissa Meeks. I thought I did not like her cause she was beautiful and out of my league but I see I have a real reason not to like her. How can she judge a guy cause he dosent want a fat girl when she gave the boot (or high heel) to all the unatractive guys. Damn, to bad no one will call her on it on TV cause I would tell her.

Average Joe is a great show! They got a long time fan in me, this show would never jump the shark.

You gotta love the explaination: "I admire you for being honest, but you were insensitive". Its not like he said he said he didn't like fat chicks and pointed to Big momma. The only way he could have answered that question without offending Tub-a-momma was to lie. Evidently Tons-a-momma is one of those 1 in 100 obese people that have a severe glandulor problem.

I must say I am happy to come on this board to read that others are disappointed in her. The whole set up was a joke. These guys were set up to fail and God forbid they be honest about physical attraction with someone who enters herself in beauty pageants. She did tell Sean that keeping herself in shape was important, no?

I was so angry that she kept excusing Michael's behavior (the boat sinking was 'funny in the end')because of her attraction to him. It makes her just as guilty.

Anyway, next week should be interesting and in the end she is going to pick one of the new guys because her dates and kisses with the Joes are forced.

Cardamone got booted because he couldn't keep his fool mouth shut! He answered the "least attractive physical quality" question as if he was writing an essay! I would have just said something non-controversial like "large hands" and moved on.

And, yes, women can be hypocritical. What else is new?

"RE: "I'm normally not attracted to guys...."

Mike C. had no brain-to-mouth filter. He repeatedly blew his chances, one right after the other. Honestly I was surprised he wasn't booted off when he made that comment about a certain dam-building woodland creature, earlier in the season.

Hey speaking of dam-building woodland creatures, didn't anyone hear Michael called out something like "you nasty beaver" while blowing glass? NBC didn't bleep it out either. I guess he was talking about the glass, and Larissa giggled when she heard that. Anyone else catch that?

I wonder if MikeC didn't really care if he won Larissa. Like alot of the people on this show, he might have just went on it for the publicity. He made himself standout by his comments. We remember him. It is very likely that he realized Larissa simply wasn't his type and he didn't care if she picked him. So he had his fun and played to the camera.

Mike C. does sound like a great guy to date, but not to marry. He's good looking, cocky, and had a great sense of humor. I would get tired of his mouth though. Mike K. was really good looking too, but a bit more immature.

Michael, who truthfully answers that he doesn't like women who don't care for themselves, or Brian, who flat out lied that he would choose the art gallery over the 7th game of the World Series?

I liked Michael. He seemed to be the most genuine and interesting of the Himbos.

Ironic, isn't it? And moreso that Larissa told Mike C. that the reason she was kicking him to the curb was because 'somewhere along the way' she discovered they weren't right for each other. Fibs abound: left, right and center. Seems the way to win, yah?

I believe there is a slight but subtle difference between what Larissa said to Sean and what Cardo said to "Mom." While Larissa did tell Sean that she wasn't attracted to out-of-shape guys, Cardo said that he wasn't attracted to women who were too lazy to take care of themselves. (or something to that effect).

In other words, Cardo went the extra step of equating being out of shape with moral laxness on the part of Larissa's Mom. That was insulting. People may be out of shape for many reasons that are not "laziness." Perhaps "Mom" has a thyroid condition?

It's one thing to simply say, given the choice, I'd rather date people who are in shape, which is what Larissa did. She expressed a preference, and that's her right. I think anyone could see the point of that. What Cardo did, however, was to question the morals of overweight people, and to essentially say, genetics be damned, it's your fault if you don't have what I have.

"RE: "I'm normally not attracted to guys...."
Posted by MTW1961 on 02-17-04 at 03:02 PM
I may be wrong, but did Cardo actually refer to weight when talking to Mom? He referred to weight when talking with the guys, but when talking to Mom he said "lazy people who don't take care of their bodies".

This doesn't necessarily include all fat people. I know many overweight people who take good care of themselves. They are clean, well-groomed, and well-dressed. On the other hand, I know slim people who don't take care of themselves - they look exactly like they are too lazy. Too lazy to iron their clothes, wash and brush their hair, etc.

Go back and look at a video tape of Episode 3, Ankerdosh, and you will see that Larissa said *exactly* the same thing!

Larissa said that she wasn't attracted to guys who *DO NOT MAKE THE EFFORT* to stay in shape, etc.

That's clear as a bell.

I remember it well, because I had to write a summary of Episode 3 for this bulletin board, and so I paid close attention to the episode.

Larissa is a hypocrite, pure and simple. She has a double standard for men and women, and she wants men to tell her what she wants to hear, not the truth.

"Cut because he insulted Larissa or Mom?"
Posted by Fraz on 02-17-04 at 03:43 PM
I thought that Mikey got cut because the hidden camera caught him saying that he wouldn't be attracted to Larissa if it weren't for her looks.

That's even more insulting than saying "I wouldn't have been attracted to her in the beginning if she didn't look this way." I read it as "After getting to know her, her personality isn't good enough to compensate if she didn't look this good."

He's slick and he could probably have talked his way out of insulting momma.

"RE: Cut because he insulted Larissa or Mom?"
Posted by MTW1961 on 02-17-04 at 04:00 PM
But he actually said he wouldn't date her if she was 100 lbs overweight, meaning that even her awesome personality wouldn't make up for her being grossly overweight. This is different than saying he was only attracted to her looks.

What he's saying is that he wants it all - good looks AND a dynamite personality. I don't think there is anything wrong with this at all. It's FAR more honest than Larissa is being. It shows he's a) in tune with what he wants; b) willing to express it.

Exactly!

What Average Joe shows us is that women do the same thing. The only difference is that they are unwilling to admit it, and are hypocrites because they hold us to that standard eventhough they don't live up to it themselves.

What he's saying is that he wants it all - good looks AND a dynamite personality. I don't think there is anything wrong with this at all. It's FAR more honest than Larissa is being. It shows he's a) in tune with what he wants; b) willing to express it.

It may be unfair to draw conclusions about womanhood ingeneral based on the experiences of just Melana and Larissa.

I also wonder whether, in general, men would be more likely to be honest about their standards in the same situation. This is one of the reasons I actually like Cardo. He's willing to state the unpopular opinion. It would be nice to have an "Average Jane" show and see how the male reacts in a similar situation.

You're right. It would be more accurate to say that Average Joe shows us how women *can* be shallow and hypocritical.

But I personally think that women are just as shallow and hypocritcal as men. People are people. Human nature is human nature. Period.

Men are frequently criticized for being shallow or hypocritical by women but they don't want to hear men criticize them of the same.

Whether they want to hear it or not has no bearing on whether or not it is true, in my opinion.

As Fredo pointed out, many of the women in his family are of a larger size, like him, but he would never actually tell them that.

It would indeed be interesting to see what would happen in an Average Jane situation.

Yes agree with you 100% and well said. Can you imagine any guy in the same position as Larissa? the overweight chick or the hottie? and he would say, I would rather be with someone in shape and who would blame him. IN fact, those few whiny women that would dare say, what is the matter with his "Hypocrisy" would be considered the "jealous ugly" chicks. Am I right? girls? Men consider it hypocrisy because its happening to them--their gender....ah now THAT IS HYPOCRISY

"Men are NOT being hypocritical"

What this show seems to be demonstrating is that women are as shallow as men. The hypocracy comes when women expect something of men that they are not even willing to do themselves.

She is totally shallow. Sometimes it's hard to hear it come from someone else's mouth. She agrees with him, but is sounds shallow coming fro his mouth. Think about it... she spends an enormous amount of time in preparation to look like a beauty queen. She was even in "beauty" contests. Do you think that they nominate a pig for Miss USA? NOT! She eliminated every fat guy. God, she is such a hypocrite and she knows she is hot and uses it for all its worth. She has all these guy, especially the average guys drooling for her. She makes each of them feel like they are the one.. especially poor Brian. Wonder what will happen there. I think it will be between Mr. Hottie and Brian and Brian will lose. Imagine the ego you have to have to enter the Miss Universe Pagent! You have to believe your above average! If all she does is paint she can make the claim she is humble but to be seeking that much fame for her looks, and lets face it her paints aint the next Piccaso, she is useing her looks to get ahead, to be famous, cause she needs attention. imagine going on a dating show where other people vie for your attention, imagine the ego needed to think I'm so hot they can base a whole show around people wanting me.

"RE: Entering Miss Universe"
Posted by drooler on 02-18-04 at 09:17 AM
You don't just enter the Miss Universe pageant. Many college age girls do enter pageants at the local level because the winner and runners-up get scholarship $$. Many of them could care less about moving on to state competition and then national and international competitions. Some want to continue. But those in Miss America, Miss USA (I beleive Larissa didn't get beyond that) and Miss Universe have to have competed their way into those pageants.

"RE: Yeah and verilly, Veruca! You speak the truth!"

Larissa isn't just an artist, of course. As a beauty pageant contest and a model, she is essentially a peformer.

To say the least, performers are creative like artists are, but they are much more egotistical. That's Larissa!

"RE: Pageant picks"
Posted by drooler on 02-18-04 at 03:38 PM
It also occurred to me that Larissa, even more than Melana, chooses the men to keep from a kind of pageant perspective: how poised they are, how varied their interests, whether they present themselves with confidence and a positive attitude. Gosh, if one of the guys would just "world peace" they'd have a lock on the finals!

"At least she's not a cheerleader like Malena"
Posted by Howard Dean on 02-18-04 at 03:59 PM

I would probably disagree with you there. Larissa does have some sensitivity, after all. I doubt if Malena would have kept Brian this far into the game. Probably not Fredo either.

Larissa is not a freakin jock chasing Kansas City Chief cheerleader like Malena. She's an artist, a model and yes, a beauty pageant contestant.

In the end, she will probably choose a himbo, or maybe she will choose either Brain or Fredo. Either way, given who she had to choose from in Average Joe 2, I think she comes out smelling a lot better than Malena does.

But, as we've been pointing out in this thread, she's far from perfect. She has her hypocracies and shallowness like everyone does, and it can be pretty disguisting.

And most people like who they are attracted too---watch any Spike tv lately?---and let's face it the average joes are not really average---thank god!---they are plain UGLY!!!! and therefore unattractive. Don't forget she let go of some hotties too!

She's been required to eliminate an equal number of HIMBOS and JOES since the HIMBOS arrived. She hasn't been free to choose how many of each to eliminate.
