The iTunes stats are out, and their tale is short. People may vote for Scotty & Lauren -- but they pay to hear Haley.

Given the way Lee DeNeverWuz's release sold, Idol needs a winner who can turn some kind of profit. If this kind of early indicator means anything, the two country singers may not be it. And that could turn the pimping around -- if not the vote.

Or maybe MP3 players are still more of a coastal thing. Make the call.

This is one person's take on what could be selling.

The rankings are 50% iTunes and 50% file sharers. The iTunes rankings were tabulated by multiplying the star rating by the total number of ratings.

The ‘official’ sales numbers aren’t released because they don’t want people to know who is the most popular before the show is over. But, it’s easy to figure out which singles are doing the best."

IIRC, the "stars" from itunes have to do with recency of sales and do not always reflect the total sales. Someone on MJ's likely will post an explanation. If it is about recency, then is Haley fans surged late in buying her music, then that would explain the stars.

Still, if there is anything that is true from this, it is looking like a Scotty-Haley finale, so two different genres.

Still not much interested until the final show.

This definitely says something about Lauren's reception by the iTunes-purchasing/hacking public, though. She's barely tracking on the radar at all.

It's fitting that the only songs Lauren has in the top 25 are The Climb and Candle in the Wind. It's an impossible climb and her candle is snuffed by the wind.

I am kind of surprised how well Haley is doing in this list, even better than Scotty. James and Casey are the next pair of favs, and Pia's in the list, too.

In the end, what sells counts more than what gets Dialidol votes.
