"Worst...Songs...Ever!"

(Say it in Comic-Book-Guy type of voice for full effect.)
If the musical insominia, I mean "original songs" (giggle) that were performed on American Idol are any indication, then whoever wins this contest is going to be the real loser (like that Brit-twink Will Young.) Even the song TITLES were bland and generic for God's sake.

Man, I can't agree with you more, these "tunes" were recycled Diane Warren songs.I think Kelly and Justin did what they could with them. One shined, the other did not (but I said that in the other thread about the performances).
"A moment like this" was actually ok, sort of the new version of "One moment in time" that Whitney Houston sang at the Olympics.
"Before your love" was a terrible, been there-done that song.
Oh well, I guess we will have to buy Kelly's version of these tunes when she wins.

At least it was Justin and Kelly in the finals. Can you imagine Nikki trying to fight through those songs? To their credit, the songs *had* to be extremely generic. They had no idea who was going to sing them, and they had to make the range as bland as possible on the off chance that say, RJ or Jim won the thing. But come on. At least Kelly had the talent to make these interesting.
Oh dear, I've re-dorkulated!

I didn't think Moment Like This was all that bad. I mean, it was a sappy, over-blown ballad - but it wasn't the worst sappy over-blown ballad ever. My six year old was singing it at bedtime (and she even put on a tu-tu to dance during the show - they know their audience)That other one just reeked. I was re-writing it as they sang it. Most obvious lyrical choices ever! But like y'all said, it had to be nondescript since they didn't know who would end up singing them.

I couldn't sing along to it because:a) I could barely remember the songs 15 minutes after I heard them, they were so damn boring.
b) I had trouble (as I found out, did many other people) distiguishing that it WAS two songs and not just one song going on, and on, and on... (In fact I wouldn't be surprised if this WAS a Mariah/Celine/Whitney song circa '93.)
But I guess the world DOES need another bland, forgettable generic "straight-from-a-Meg-Ryan-movie" ballad, so what do I know?

I liked Moment Like This. I was humming along. I think it'll be catchy, and has a chance for some radio play. ( espcially here in North Texas if it's Kelly)LOL Pooh, my daughter was also singing along, and when I talked to True, so was hers.

I was just hoping for something with a little more pep. Both songs just seemed long to me, although I will say that Kelly was able to put some umph into them. I would have liked to see one of the songs be more up-tempo.
