Keep all the filler and info about who goes home in this thread until the West Coast recovers from Constantine making suggestive eyes at them through the camera.

I suggest he flush his eyes with water because those movements are normally produced by a lost lash stuck to the surface.

For me, any 'shocking elimination' tonight would translate to 'someone other than Haley goes home'. We're not going to lose Pia and Lauren until after Haley departs, and we're not going to lose a male because at this point, it feels like any threat of that happening would lead to the never-before-seen Second Save. (And you wondered where the one-week immunity Redemption Island needed wound up.) Based on every trend we've got, this is Haley or Nobody, and it's the wrong week for Nobody.

Two more like this and we'll have to move the show to Miller Park.

In chess terms, it's 'zugzwang'.

... it describes a situation where one is put at a disadvantage because one has to make a move when one would prefer to pass and make no move.

In game theory, it specifically means that it directly changes the outcome of the game from a win to a loss.

Fixed that, considering love is all they gave last night.

There's a huge chasm between 'could' and 'will', with someone falling in.

Sweet Home Alabama is part of this week's montage. VFTW suggested that Paul perform it last night to remind people of his roots and get the state behind him, plus they've been half-jokingly trying to rally the natives all week. Did we just get a clue -- or are they just performing whatever was left over from the choice list?

So we created the show. Where's the check?

Casey, Stefano and Lauren at center stage.

Is it that cold in LA that you need a wool ski cap on.

One of them is in the bottom three.

Lauren it is not you, you are safe.

Tonight Casey goes back to the safety of the couches, Stefano in the bottom three

"RE: Dim the lights 1"

No surprise there, and the other two who were valid potential shockers pass through.

The predictability level of the remaining results just went up one notch.

"RE: Dim the lights 1"
Posted by Loree on 04-07-11 at 08:21 PM
They must really worry about Lauren being upset. Every week they are always so quick to let Lauren know she is safe. She never has to wait around to find out.

Good observation.

"RE: Dim the lights 1"
Posted by Estee on 04-07-11 at 08:22 PM
Given Casey's medical issues, he may run hot or cold on any given day. Since most body heat escapes through the head, that kind of cap would make sense for him if his thermostat is currently low.

As for the rest of it... Stefano's B3 on performance no-merit, so the placement is justified. It's just not even remotely shocking.

My first thought was The mirror cracked, Jacob? He dared the nation and the nation told him exactly where to go: stage left.

Haley safe... all right, I'm surprised now. For what we've got, Stefano is the most legitimate ouster and Jacob was more or less begging for it. (BTW, wasn't his dating status check-in at the TMZ office cute? And futile? But still cute.) Pia... that's the pattern of the season, but...

I agree with you. Just goes to show the idiocy of the AI voting process. IMHO, Pia is gorgeous, has a great voice, and with some mentoring, will have a great musical career ahead of her. That aside, while Naima and Thea deserved to go, Pia should have tatyed to the end. Instead off the judges wasting their save on Fozzy Bear, they could have used it this week. What a bunch of sc*mbags these tweeners and teenyboppers are! Stephano and Paul suck.. they can't sing their way out of a paper bag. Jacob is a Johnny one-note, and Casey can't handle the pressure. Now that Pia is out, the only one left who deserves to win is James.

She might be able to go and do an adult contemporary album. For me, it was same ol same ol with her and it got really boring. I never got the 'passion' they claim she had...just a lot of wailing.....and now she's killing my favorite Pretenders song...again.

"RE: Pia"
Posted by grit on 04-07-11 at 09:12 PM
Maybe now AI will change the voting. (Yeah, fat chance.)

I say this every season: I don't vote because my 10 - 12 votes won't have any chance against the thousands of votes the teenage girls are casting in the 2 hour period after the show ends. And that's why we end up with skewed results like this.

"RE: Pia"

"RE: Bottom Three Center Stage"
Posted by Donald Chump on 04-07-11 at 09:38 PM
That was ridiculous.

They need to change the voting system. Make people vote for who they want to leave, not who they want to stay. The current voting system encourages the psychology of people not voting for who they think is safe.

I think Pia has an awesome voice, but was quite boring to watch. I really hate it when they encourage people to vote, then basically tell the voting public they are stupid for their vote. Maybe other people thought she was boring too!! Instead of looking for some reason why this is such a travesty we should look at the possibility that MAYBE people just didn't want to vote for her......

Thinking back, Pia got scant time in front of the camera before the top 24. Then she got a pimp spot.

The uber pimped from before the top 24 are all still there, one with the judges' (producers) help.

"RE: Fun Office Pool"
Posted by MarkP on 04-07-11 at 09:19 PM
I would like to thank the judges for sending Pia home. All 3 sit up there week after week and tell America how great every single singer is and then they are surprised when America does not hate any of them? Like it or not some people are influenced by the judges and when the judges don't judge they have nobody to blame but themselves if they are outraged by America's choice.

"RE: Fun Office Pool"
Posted by Loree on 04-07-11 at 11:24 PM
Exactly. The judges spent lastnight telling us that all 9 are wonderful and gushing over them. Then tonight they are so upset that Pia was going home. Well someone had to go home. I wish Ryan had asked the judges who they thought should go home if Pia was the wrong choice. They never want to say anyone doesn't deserve to be there. So they are sending mixed signals to the viewers.

"RE: Fun Office Pool"
Posted by emydi on 04-08-11 at 09:56 AM
well Paul was sent to safety when Pia had to go to chair and JLo esp grimaced then Stefano was saved when Pia was sent home and the judges were aghast so there's those 2...just makes me want Paul to go further!!

Seem to remember in the past that Ryan had asked the judges when he had the B3 on the stage which should go & which should stay. Maybe JL & Steven put in their contract that they would not be "not nice". LOL

Stephano must have felt like crap. He had to know that if the judges were that upset about Pia leaving, then they had to have preferred that he be the one to go.

"RE: The question for next week."

imho what Steven said is bunk it's not indifference it's that the people they focus the show on the tweeners (they have little girls run up to Scotty...but they can't do that with Pia bc she wd get groped and AI has enough problems with the judges and contestant let alone the audience) will never vote for Pia like people in droves the only people willing to go all out voting are tweeners frauen and VFTW and they are all voting for WGWG

"RE: The question for next week."
Posted by Snidget on 04-07-11 at 10:10 PM
Yep, they cater to the remaining groups that will give them the ratings so they keep make money.
Then this group of judges won't be ruthless about getting rid of the people that were put on the cast that "don't deserve to win" once they get to the top 12 even though they were "too good not to win" until they were cast as finalists.

I don't think Randy in all this time understands how the voting works. Simon had the best grasp of how to direct the voting, even Paula and Kara seemed to have some clue that to keep the TCO they have to make people think there is a big difference between the TCO and the fodder.

There are ways to fix this, but to make it more of a talent show and less of a more total votes means more ratings show they'd have to give up the #1 show in America thing, IMO.

"RE: The question for next week."
Posted by Estee on 04-07-11 at 10:26 PM
And this could potentially put the show in a death spiral for female talent, because some of the more capable women will realize they'll never be able to win -- and won't apply to Idol. Which means a less talented group of women for the next group, who won't attract the votes needed to change the course. Follow that one around a few times and down the rabbit hole we go.

"RE: The question for next week."
Posted by byoffer on 04-07-11 at 10:55 PM
While I agree with your comment about talented females potentially staying away, the show is more reliant on DAWs, and there is no shortage of that. Do they care if the winners are not true "idols"? Did Taylor and Ruben winning hurt the show?

"RE: The question for next week."
Posted by AyaK on 04-07-11 at 11:04 PM
Ruben, no. Taylor, yes. But the show has worked around that pretending that Chris Daughtry won the fifth season.

Lee DeWyze winning hurts more.

Oh yeah, PTTE shot to bits.

Last time I pick someone with no screen time pre Hollywood for the top 3.

(Even though Kris Allen was able to win with no pre Hollywood screen time).

While I am not as disgusted with the show as I was when Michael Johns was (meanly) booted after Idol Gives Back... I am disgruntled enough to not care whether I see the show or not.

Girls staged to be clamoring around Scotty....more than once ...how is that fair? Of course it's not fair. Idol's not fair.

Was Pia removed so Lauren has no real competition? Michael Johns competed with David Cook's voters.

Or was it that Pia was a lot of people's second choice but not a lot of people's first choice...the classic and dreaded "someone else will vote for them" syndrome.

Im not really shocked or outraged. I've just suddenly lost interest. Kinda like watching 'Real World'. Coming to the realization that it's kindof pointless.

I'll prolly check in ... in a month or two to see who's left. Maybe...

You talking about who's left on AI
or here in RTVW?

(does seem like I see you every month or two)

"Don't get the outrage"

I just don't get it. Not specifically here but across the internets. Did anyone really think she would win? Is she the whole package? She has the "it" factor? Really? She seems contemporary to these people?

So she has a good voice. Since when is American Idol a singing competition? If she is as talented and charismatic as claimed then she really has nothing to worry about, see Jennifer Hudson, Chris Doughtry and *shudder* Constantine.

I really don't think there was any crazy fan base voting at work here. The tweens, the cougars, the Worsters, etc really had nothing to do about it here. I just don't think she instilled any passion or connected with a large group of people.

Me either.

America voted and I agree. She was b o r i n g. Every week the same old thing. She never "stepped it up" because she couldn't.
She seemed camera shy. I was surprised she got in the top 10, I mean 11!

Wasn't a big fan of Naima, but at least she was entertaining.

I'm not particularly outraged (and gawds know she bored me a few times). I'm just surprised that she fell out that fast after being safe for weeks -- there's often more of a steady descent -- and getting tired of losing female after female every week while Y-chromosome svckage just cruises on through. As said before, all we're ultimately arguing about is the order: Pia deserved to stay longer than a couple of the men. She didn't. So it goes.

As for the Internet outrage, I'm filing that under 'Complaining About Results We Didn't Vote For'. If all these angry people had power-cast...

Yep the standard others should do my bidding even if I don't tell them what I want and especially when I will take no action what-so-ever to make it happen.

I also think there are a lot of people who got some anger to let out and getting outraged over a TV show is a safer outlet than actually dealing with the real reasons for the anger.

correctamundo Smidge...

I love reading the hate mail at VFTW and the video of the teen and her little sister..although that gets pretty "sad" after about 30 seconds

Yup, about the anger management thing.

Still, it's just a TV show and while it will certainly affect the future of the contestants (and perhaps the show itself), whatever happens on this show has no bearing or impact on our everyday lives.

While Pia's ouster was a disappointment to me in terms of the quality of performances I expect to see in future weeks, nothing about this show or the voting really surprises me anymore.

So be it.

Disappointment, not outrage here.

There's so much going on globally that sucks: Japan's earthquake, tsunami, nuclear problems, middle east unrest/ Libiya's fighting/oil skyrocketing, gas prices rising in the US, the pols arguing over the budget and threatening a government shut down where they still get paid but the military won't while the government is shut down, food prices and health care going up... and despite all that, AI was something fun.

Now that sucks, too.

Pia sang well and deserved to stay longer. Much longer. ;)

JLo kills me. Her comments after they sang Wednesday:

To Jacob: "Perfect in every way"

To Stafano "Amazing, magic and beautiful"

So when they both stay she is outraged? Note to JLo - if you really think some are better than others say it before they leave, not after. Ironic how the judges plea to the public to vote - the public should be telling the judges to take the same stance and essentially vote themselves as opposed to this weekly lovefest.

I agree about not getting the outrage. She has a better, traditional voice than many left, but compared to some of the other performer she was boring. Even if you hate the way some of the others perform, at least it's memorable.

Every year, I get tired of the lecture to America. Somebody has to go home, and it is strictly based on votes. So, like it or not, America voted and this is how the vote turned out. Steven is outraged, but he already told Lauren in her audition that she could win it all.

It happens every year.

Idol alums react to Pia's elimination in Twitter...

Stefano Langone: All I can say is it wasn’t right. And anyone that thinks they have a clue on how I feel or what I’m going thru as a PERSON, has NO idea…

Naima Adedapo: Gotta Love those teenage girl crushes! LOL. Ahhhhhh.

Jennifer Hudson: I can not believe they just eliminated pia ! ReAlly..???? Long as she walked away with that voice she will be alright !! Just hate to see talent like that go!

Chris Daughtry: What the crap!!?? I thought Pia was THE best singer on the show this year!

Mandisa: Hmm…based on ur tweets the rumors abt #AI10 r true. But u know what I realized? I was voted out n 9th place 5yrs ago too. #JustSayin

David Cook: Bad call tonight on Idol

David Archuleta: Man heard who got voted off of idol tonight. That is pretty shocking.

Carly Smithson: Im so ##### shocked right now !!! America must have been smokin crack last night !! #STUPIDELIMINATION

Melinda Doolittle: I’m genuinely shocked by the AI results tonight. That’s all.

Elliott Yamin: Damn!…Pia’s hot when she cries too!..2 bad!..looks like the judges used their saves too early.

Katie Stevens: Why is it that America sends all the girls home? It makes me upset that the girls are equally as talented as the boys but majority of idol voters are girls and alot of times girls wont vote for girls? I don’t get it at all… America got it wrong tonight

Andrew Garcia: Still in shock. How’s everyone? It just means my boy Casey is gon handle it he’s always had my vote now I’m voting my brains out for him!!! Y’all do the same!!! Ya hearrrrd

Didi Benami: WTF!? Pia, Seriously?! umm… Her voice is insane! Unbelievable…

Todrick Hall: American Idol will once again produce another flop and X Factor is going to put them out of business!

Michael Sarver: Wow! If there has ever been grounds for a vote recount on idol it is this week because this so doesn’t add up!

Brandon Rogers: America has made possibly one of the worst decisions in #Americanidol history!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Phil Stacey: Terrible result on Idol tonight. No way that person should’ve been voted off…

Haley Scarnato: Let’s just face it, Pia Toscano should not have gone home…. She was one of the best singers this season… WTF….

Kim Caldwell: Did Pia just get voted off idol?! She’s too hot for people to take her seriously! That’s crap

Janell Wheeler: I’m shocked and sad that Pia is out!!! Waaaa!!!!

Anthony Fedorov: I’m completely SHOCKED!!!! I cannot believe Pia just got eliminated!!!!!! WOW!!!!!

Chris Sligh: Way to go America. You apparently looked in the mirror then forgot to vote for the best singer.

I find this so odd. When I hear someone sing, I want the 'softer' parts to be just as good as the wailing and hers were weak. Speaking of the wailing, I actually found the note she hit over and over and over and over to be not very pleasant to listen to at all. It hit a spot that was really off for me. I bet if you just heard that, you think less of it. But maybe it's just me, I just never thought she was that good. That said, I truly did think she'd outlast Stefano and Paul....
