Thanks to the cool and awesome Cygnus X1 who sent me the neat picture.
Stairway to Heaven?
Wow, that was a lot of stairs that the teams had to climb! Between that task and the Climbing Detour, there was a ton of athleticism in the episode. Some teams, tired of sweating and complaining, chose to make Ethanol and got 500 mL of free gas.
...And Lisa/Joni were eliminated. Shocking, I know, due to their strong Leg1 performance, but true. Think about all you players who lost points due to their failure...

As an Economics major, I've always loved hosting and scoring the Casino Game, but I'm really enjoying this season's format. It's so interesting to see how everyone decides to bet. Some people are betting it all on one or two teams, hoping to completely double up. Others spread it around, reducing their variance.
Overall, the scores were really good this week. BJ/Tyler, Eric/Jeremy, and Joseph/Monica, three popular picks, each finished Top 3. Wanda and Desiree did, however, cost some players a couple points though.
This week's Perfect Bet Award goes to Higgs, Road Kill, vince3, and alwaysintruble1. Each of these players completely doubled their scores by betting All-In on BJ/Tyler. Good job, you guys.
The Greatest Gainer Award is a weekly award that goes to the player who move up the most ranks in a single week. This week's Greatest Gainer Award goes to alwaysintruble1, who moved up an astonishing 34 places to #14 overall. Congratulations! That's a pretty amazing jump.

New Players Still Welcome!
The Casino Game will continue to keep accepting new players up to the Week 5 Entry thread. For those of you who are new, please check out the rules below.
Casino Game Rules
1. Each player that joins in Week Three (right now) will receive 10 points to start the game. I'm not going to be handing more points for free later, so don't waste them. For every additional week you join the game late, you start with fewer points, so I suggest you join as soon as you can.
2. Once your points are gone, they're gone. If you lose all of your points, as indicated by the leaderboard, you're out of the game.
3. Each week, you may choose to bet some of your points on the remaining Amazing Race teams. How many/few points is up to you. Your bets usually will look something like this...
10 points - Charlie/Snoopy
5 points - Linus/Lucy
3 points - Patty/Marcie
Just make sure you don't overspend your points. Since you only have 10 points right now, you can't bet more that that amount. I don't give out credit cards. This week, you'll have 10 points to spend, but next week your point total will vary, based on your Week Three performance. Check the Leaderboard for your point total.
4. Unlike previous seasons, there is no limit for your individual bets, as long as you don't go over budget. So, if you've eventually racked up a bunch of points and you have a good feeling about one of the teams, you can bet all of them on that team. Or, conversely, a few points as you want.
I must warn you though. Betting all your points on one team is a risky venture. One poor week may halve your score, or worse. So proceed with caution.
5. You may bet on as few or as many different teams as you want. If you don't feel comfortable betting on only 1 or 2 teams, spread the points around to 5 or 6 different ones. It's up to you.
6. You don't have to wager all of your points each week, or even play at all. The points you don't use are "banked" and will carry over to the next week without risk. If you're really not "feelin' it" one week, you can completely skip an entry and all of your points will carry over to the following week.
7. All bets must be integers (whole numbers). I don't like scoring bets of 4.567345245 points. Too much keys to push.
8. All entries are due prior to showtime, Eastern-Time, based on the RTVWorld.com clock. You can find the clock on the top right corner of every post. In other words, this week, you must enter by Tuesday, March 14th, before 10:00 PM. Any entries posted after the deadline will not be counted.
9. Any entry which is edited after the showtime deadline will receive a significant penalty, at my discretion. You can still edit your post before the deadline as many times as you want, mind you. Just don't change your picks after the episode airs. I haven't had any problems with this yet, so we probably won't have to worry about it.
The Payout Table determines how many points you'll earn, based on your wagered teams' performance. If your teams do well, you gain many points; if they do poorly, you'll probably lose a few.

I wasn't an economics major, but I do think it's fun watching the way people bet - put it all on one team? split between two strong teams? spread it around? I wish I knew what the best strategy is, but I don't. (Of course, the best strategy is just to pick the winning team...) This week's payout table is interesting because the payout for 3rd place is the same as last week's payout for 2nd place. So with fewer teams to pick from, you have three shots to get at least 50% increase, compared to only two shots last week. Of course, the opposite holds for the bottom half of the table - there are three ways you could lose 50% or more of your bet on a team. So does that mean someone should be on more teams or fewer teams this week, compared to last week? These kinds of things make this such a good game! So what does this mean for my bets this week? I'm going to put it all on one team that I think has a good shot at finishing in the top three: 44 on Joseph and Monica.
So is the only way to get the Perfect Bet Award to double up by betting it all on #1? What would be considered a Perfect Bet if nobody bets it all on the winner? That would occur, as long as people keep betting All-In on the 1st place team. If no one does that, it will come down to whoever had the largest average multiplier. That number's calculated by dividing your new score by your old one to give you your percent gain. It's really easy to do in an Excel spreadsheet. For example, you have 44 points now, but 32 points last week, so your average multiplier was 44/32 = 1.38, or a 38% gain. Which makes sense, since you picked Eric/Jeremy (1.5x) and Wanda/Desiree (.9x). If those four players hadn't doubled up completely, Rhyn would've gotten the award (1.88x). Theoretically, spreading around your bets will ultimately reduce your variance, and you'll probably score somewhere around 1.4x to .6x overall. Throwing it all on one team, however, could result in any score, from 2x to 0x. So, it's all in variance, I think. Now, as for the best strategy, that's still to be determined. It mostly comes down to simply picking the right teams... Let's try this 5 Wanda/Desiree and that's my measly 17 points.

It would appear so, but I noticed that you posted two entries in last week's thread. Your entry in Post #18 would've yielded 48 total points. In the cases of two entries by the same poster, I always take the latest one, reasoning that the person changed their mind. Kinda like an edit. 59 points on Eric/Jeremy! The RTV Gaming Commission requires that I hold an amount of points in the vault to cover every point in play. That means I got 2,419 points tucked away right now... Should cover expenses, assuming you all double up. This is all assuming that BJ/Tyler wins the leg though. I really hate having an odd number of points when I want to bet on an even number of teams. Worse than that, the number of points I have is prime, but it won't break up into two primes!!! Ugh!

Arrghhh! I spent the whole episode with the phantom thought that I had put everything on BJ and Tyler.
To the point I was screaming at the TV for Eric and Jeremy to F-up somehow and let BJ and Tyler get back into first and win the leg.
When the SFdorks reach the pitstop first I actually jumped up and cheered, knowing that my bet in the Casino would have paid off huge.
Then I go back and notice that that was indeed not the case.
I bet it all on the team that I was praying would fall short.
Sheesh.
Oh geez now I have no idea...
ummm... Yep. Eric and Jeremy. For sure this time.
Hopefully I can remember to continue to cheer for them.
