I've decided to brace myself for music that's worse than it should ever be by listening to some that's better than it had any right to be. To that end, before tonight's performances, I will be watching Mayhem of the Music Meister!

Twice.

Ut's a good thing we've got Arkham 'cause they really drive us bats!

Starting on the Stairs of Doom wearing the Shoes of Danger.

Please prerecord these and autotune next week. I don't think she can hear herself. Cranking it up at the end and that sounds better.

S. Sorcerors grasp of melody, beautiful.
J. Bring your flavor, I gave you a pass on the pitchiness, now you are consistently pitchy and that is hurting you, makes me worry how this will hold up.
R. Last week wasn't great, just under the pitch, vocals a mess, a reharm of the track.

I'm glad they mentioned Naima's pitchy singing. She was not able to find the right notes.

When all you have is a hammer... She was hitting certain parts of the words so hard, I thought the staircase was retreating from the impact of her 'cal's. The rhythm was off, but the rocks in the prison yard were successfully broken. Kudos.

Are they actually trying to retroactively depimp her?

"RE: Naima Adedapo"
Posted by whimsey on 03-16-11 at 08:10 PM
A bit disappointing. I expect much more from her. Maybe she should temper the dancing to beef up the singing.

Drunk uncle is back!!!
Keeps trying to get the audience into it, has the back up singers on the edge of the stage.

Are you supposed to be that happy singing about the blues??

J. I feel you, you felt like you were struggling, so much soul and so much star quality. Can you make it happen, and you did.
R. I differ from Jennifer, no pass because you have a cold. Under the pitch first half, the thing I like the new ingenue, and put the Paul spin on it.
S. You define a cool dude in a loose mood. Swagger way cool, very distinctive voice, I like that.

Leg swings.

Arm swings.

If only his neck would swing.

I don't have the blues. I have the reds. The I Must Get My Hands Around Its Throat And Stop The Noises From Coming Out Reds. Except that as established last week, it actually means finding the internal playback reel and giving it a few adjustments with Naima's hammer.

I believe this is what we call a stereotype, folks. I could completely see her cast in the Pocahontas stage show that used to play at Disney's Animal Kingdom. She looks like Central Casting for the role.

But she blew the lyrics it seemed. And it was boring.

I think the gave her a personality chip for her clip package, let's see if they left it in or not.

Well they set the vibrato setting to high if nothing else.

R. I think the vocals were ok, but the problem I am having you've been singing all these ballads, some pageant somewhere, nothing unique, maybe a different kind of song, take some chances. So safe and boring.

S. What the audience said. But is that song who you think you are. Thought the lyric suited today and best song of the choices I had.

J. Love the quality and tone of your voice, Adele type of quality. Blew us away. A little safe, I hear in your vibrato, nervousness or your vibrato, needs a bit of working on. Kill it next week.

"RE: Thia Megia"
Posted by Maroonclown on 03-16-11 at 08:27 PM
Ms. J. Lo mentioned Adele. That should be the one comment Thia grabs on to and run with it.

After listening to the panel exchange, I was going to post that all he needed was a neck comb to go with the headcrest. Simultaneously svcking up to Steven while basically daring America to be so cruel as to vote him out.

He don't know us very well, do he?

Guitar player on stage. The Tail is Back. Doing the Mic Stand Carry I'm such a rocker walk around the stage. Followed by slap hands with the audience (way to catch a cold) and then a few screams.

He got fireworks on the stage. Tres pimpage!

S. Your Momma, what is up with the dolls. 1989, I've got sandwiches under my bed older than you. Don't get too poppy on me.

He is holding onto the Aerosmith for the finale.

Sound dropped out.

J. It is amazing and I love it, brings me so much joy, you were great.

R. Pitch spots, figure out how to make it your own. Amazing Song, found a way to put the high note in, but tastefully done.

Singing with a Betty Boop Voice, then goes into growling. Also doing the walk behind the judges table thing. I think Paul has been giving her dance lessons there at the end, ends like a torch singer.

J. You look so beautiful tonight. When you perform I hear this amazing voice, character in your voice. A bit tense in your body. Do what you feel. Don't force anything. I want that for you. I want the package to be right there to.

Ryan is fixing her makeup.

R. I'm just a little confused. Not sure you are sure who you are. You are not sure, find out what you do best. Vocals are OK releases were, just confused with you.

Randy and all his technical terms this year.

S. That was sweet and tough. Voice is so distinct, want to hear more blues, dig into that a little more.

Is he the only one who has an ear piece? Or just the only one where I can see it. Because it seems he can actually hear himself.

Egad does he have a lot of teeth!!

R. Trying to get Stefano's attention. Give props to the original artist. Best performance of the night. Highest degree of difficulty and slayed it.

S. Beautiful phrasing. Over the top beautiful.

So BriarRosie got it right. Wardrobe has overdosed on Sheen. And they're not Winning!

Oh, the song? Some power, a little bit of stage presence, and then we get back to the dress...

I hate that Snooki's poof engorged itself and made a new home on Karen's head. And the outfit seems like it belongs in a remake of "Barbarella".

Other than more of the Wardrobe Gone Wild, I'd say this was yet another predictable performance that would have done well during any AI season.

I was thinking one of Capt. Kirk's babe in every port, but I think Barbarella is more accurate.

Playing Electric Bass, with Zombie Green Lighting.

I think he wants to eat my brains based on this performance. He has the singing incomprehensibly thing down pretty well. Would be nice if he'd found the same key as everyone else was playing.

S. You are so crazy and talented, perfect match, the goop that great stuff is made from.

J. Big shoes to fill, it got a bit screaming screechy, has to sound pleasant, wanted more of that.

R. Me being a musician and producer, what I am most impressed with, dropping names, you love taking risks. Art first then commerce, you are fearless.

Casey scared me. He looked like he wanted to eat babies for one split second.

I think Casey was trying to mimic Kurt Cobain. Not that Kurt ate babies...that we know of...

Oh, so that's what the words are!

I'll give him major credit for courage: tackling that one means the metal in your anatomy took over. Take out the sickly green lightshow which was doing its best to make him look mildly radioactive and while he didn't nail it, he at least gave the original a fairly decent tribute.

I could nitpick more, but I just want to give him credit for getting out of that alive.

But I was so happy he wasn't singing another boring ballad like so many of them.

So is this:

1. 'See, I'm not a giant homophobe! I'm singing something done by a lesbian artist and my mouth isn't on fire!'

2. 'And by my song choice she shall spend five seconds less in the pit.'

3. 'No, I don't know anything about the original performer's personal life. What do you mean, I just lost ninety percent of my fanbase?'

Subtle. Real subtle. 'I'm the only one.' You wish.

Oh that is not good. Trying to get the audience to scream. Although I'm not sure it's the flu or the jeans that are at least 3 sizes too small causing the problems.

J. We can hear your voice strong, gave it that country flavor, you took it and made it your own.

R. I don't know cold or not, that was very nice, have a cold every week. I liked it.

S. Sometimes people sing better sick.

R. Very nice performance, did step out of your comfort zone, got a little sharp, but you were back in pitch, really randy, really? It was genius dude.

With the exception of Carrie Underwood. I remember she sang this song and I remember saying that she had "dead eyes".

As for Jacob, I cannot like the gospel thing. I want to like him, but he's doing the same treatment to EVERY song. And that bugs me.

You're right: she did it at Top 11. (Before my watching time.) Okay, so she did it and lived. But there's still a long, long trail of dead bodies... and it wouldn't surprise me to see Jacob add six more feet.

"2 explanations needed"
Posted by zazzy on 03-16-11 at 09:59 PM
OK, after watching the show the past 3 weeks, there are two things that I really don't get yet:

1) Paul. Can someone explain his appeal? He seems like a drunk singer when he's up there with the chicken wing going. Every performance is the same dance, different tempo. He's not a good singer, either. Enough of the rasp. He's no Rod Stewart at the minimum.

2) Thia. She's better than what we've seen. What's up with that? I saw a bit of the David Foster special on PBS and Thia's on it, singing, big and very well. Not what we've seen lately. Is AI holding her back for a bit so she can "grow" with the season?

"Antique Shoppe"
Posted by Maroonclown on 03-16-11 at 10:00 PM
Welcome to the Antique Shoppe, Scott. What do you think?

Scotty takes a look around the parlour, walks across the wooden plank floor. A board creaks under his cowboy boot. Scotty jumps back, spooked by the sudden noise.

MC laughs and tells Scotty that it’s just a floorboard. Silly boy. He seems so nervous.

He was having such a good time in the convertible on the way back here. Must have been a first for him. Only problem was, on the way back MC had to hit the liquor store. Poor Scotty just cain’t buy booze yet. But MC is pretty sure he cain drink it. So she loaded up the trunk with a variety of beverages, and a few favs for Slash and Tyler. Couple bags of Cheetos and jujubes makes a party!

Back at the Shoppe, MC unloads the bags onto the kitchen counter. She notices the small door behind the stove is just slightly ajar. No need for the little poppet to see that. She swings it shut with her toe.

MC peeks her head out the kitchen and studies Scotty as he stands in a sunbeam in the parlour. He scans the objects that are for sale, running his fingertips over the antique furniture. The boy sure knows his wood.

All of a sudden MC gets this weird feeling. A feeling of wrongness. What the hell is that? Wrongness? As in, this is wrong? Oh hell. What a stupid time to be stricken with a dastardly moral code. GEEZ!!!!

MC goes back into the kitchen and ponders this unthinkable situation. The lad is too young, too innocent. But what about that voice? It’s so deep, so mature. Can she possible overlook what she knows to be true. That he’s, he’s *weep* seventeen. There, she admits it. Seventeen. There’s no way MC can do this.

She wanders back into the parlour. At least she can get a bit of work out of him while he’s here.

“Hey Scotty?”

“Yes, ma’am?”

“Ma’am? Ahem, do you know how to run a washing machine?”

“Yes, ma’am”

“Dishwasher?”

“Yes, ma’am”

“Ironing, folding, mopping, dusting?”

“Yes, ma’am”

MC hands Scotty a broom and a mop.

“Then get to work. You can start by getting rid of that poster of fozz-casey. It’s freakin me out. And Scotty?”

“Yes, ma’am?”

“Stop calling me ma’am”

"VFTW..."

...is getting a Fair Use quote from their front page.

"Paul McDonald lowered the bar for vocals this week and still kept up his entertaining game with his "I Guess That's Why You Call it the Blues" performance. The drunken rambling, the ridiculously raspy vocals, and his "what the @#$% did I just do" shrug after the performance was over... We certainly made the right pick last week and we need to continue supporting Paul for as long as we can have him. If he keeps singing like this, it won't be long! So dial 1-966-436-5702, text VOTE to 5702 if you have AT&T, and vote online at americanidol.com. Because if Paul can keep delivering like this, we have to get him to the finale."

So in other words, they're not noticing any particular improvement in his style.
