Keep the results here, until the West Coast sees it for themselves.

Day-o, Day-ay-ay-o
Daylight come and you're gonna go home
Day, me say day, me say day, me say day
Me say day, me say day-ay-ay-o
Daylight come and you're gonna go home

Work all night on a drink a' rum
Then we will dance around like Paul.

This may lead to a medical withdrawal. If stress is what sets this off, then he's not made for the touring life -- let alone this competition.

wouldn't you stress out too if you had to do that MJ medley

Of all the exaggerated pimpage.

More judges have to walk across the stage carp, with Ryan on the stairs of doom.

Let me know if that helps.

Hey, let's take a night off from killing!

The Kill that occurred elsewhere last night is good for two nights.

I will never abandon my mission to give mercy for those who request it!

Or at least that's what I plan on telling the jury.

Ryan also announces the judges can use one save for one week on one person before the final 5 and it has to be unanimous.

At the rate they've been going, the unanimous part will be easy.

It's as if the mansion was built inside a zeppelin cabin. You can have all the space you want as long as you don't put anything in it.

Gotta Be Starting Something--Medley

"RE: Group Number"
Posted by cahaya on 03-10-11 at 09:12 PM
Not bad. Stefano gets a surprisingly noticeable solo role off the side of the stage (where they normally sit). With the wide variety in vocal tones they have as individuals, the group thing could certainly be called a 'medley'. Fortunately, it wasn't that mudley.

I was just listening to see if Casey's prerecorded part played without him there to lipsynch it.

Gary Oldman is the big, bad wolf, or the leader of the big, bad wolves, or the father of the big, bad wolf.

Don't even have to see the movie. Oldman is always the evil one, in one form or another.

Jacob, Karen, Stefano.

All Safe except for Karen this evening.

First of the Bottom Three found.

"RE: Looking for the bottom three part 1"
Posted by cahaya on 03-10-11 at 09:25 PM
Jacob picked up Big Mike's old fan base, plus some, I think. Stefano is in sort of place of his own here, as the young handsome clean-shaven guy who doesn't sing country. Karen? No surprise, but she may make it depending on who the other two basement dwellers are.

So it's one out tonight?

BTW, I missed the first minutes of the show. Did Ryan announce Casey as safe?

One out, Didn't hear anything other than Casey is sick, nothing about safe or not, unless I missed it.

Thankee. It's hard to see missing a results show as an auto-out -- Ryan should say something eventually. A competent host would.

Yeah, that was rather mellow. I really liked the arrangement and rhythm. He belted out a couple of notes there, but for the most part, very easy to listen to. Although he has a trademark voice, just based on the sound, it would have been easy to not realize it was him singing it. Good performance.

It just would have been nice if the bloody show had allowed him to explain what the It Gets Better project is.

*sigh* And you wonder why no contestant admits they're gay while on the show. Happy little just mildly homophobic Idol: we're a family show, so stereotypical standard families only please! (VFTW is running an interview series with a former staffer who has some depressing eyewitness accounts on the subject. It hasn't been fun.) Plus they can't afford to offend their Chosen One, can they?

So people will continue to wonder, many won't research, and the ones Adam needed to reach most? In the dark.

Stupid show.

"RE: Results 2"

Haley should learn when to snap the trap shut, too. Rule number one is never, ever even come close to arguing or debating with the judges.

Wow, shish-boom-bang, everyone else is safe and we have the basement dwellers.

Oh, and we find out Casey is in the hospital. Yikes. This guy apparently is having chronic health issues.

Ryan trying to get to the results while the judges prattled on was a mild moment of comedy. (As said, he's not a competent host.) But -- was that one of the weirder reveals we've ever seen or what? 'Here's the first of the B3. Here are the last two together. And by the way, everybody else is fine.' Huh?

Single-elimination, though -- completely unlike the last time we started with thirteen. The producers must have been desperate for the extra week.

I think they need all 13 as single elimination with the one week semi's rather than 3 weeks of them.

"RE: Results 2"

Which comes back to the argument against the format change -- they've still lost a couple of weeks and the dollars that go with them.

Except that it's been double elimination in the week after using it for the previous seasons. But they could easily change that too.

ETA: And then if they additionally make Idol Gives Back week a safe haven again, they're pretty much back on schedule.

"RE: Results 2"

Yeah, that sounds about right. One non-comp week for the charity show.

"RE: Results 2"
Posted by cahaya on 03-10-11 at 09:52 PM
Yeah, one of the weirdest reveals I can recall, anyway. And certainly the quickest of so many in one shot. Let's see... we had two safe and one not safe from the first three, and then find out Lauren is safe. In one fell swoop, the other two with Lauren are not safe, meaning the remaining seven are safe in a single sentence. Seven!

She gets to sing. Going for Diana Ross again for the save.

No save, unanimous.

"RE: Final Results of the evening"
Posted by Estee on 03-10-11 at 09:59 PM
GeneriGone.

The judges weren't going to use the save this early regardless -- but as soon as she went for Diana Ross again, it was officially beyond over. That was proving in one magic choice that she didn't have anything copied from someone else, and learning from the mistakes that put her in this position hadn't happened.

As for Haley -- she may have really believed she was out and just waiting for the pronouncement of the death sentence. It may be a long ride back for her: that kind of shock doesn't always wear off quickly.

I, personally, like her.

What I looked at is who I think the vast majority of the people who vote would go for.

1. Diva girl types aren't tending to get a lot of support the last few years
2. Girls in general don't seem to get the votes the way the boys do.
3. She's a minority. That doesn't help, and early on when there are several minorities the general pattern is a few of them leave early and the last remaining one sticks around longer than I think they should.
4. She didn't seem to be getting as much pimping/story/etc as some of the other people.

That being said she wouldn't be my choice for first out, but I could predict based on what I think I know about the voting public would go for and a lot of that doesn't match up with who I like to hear sing, or watch perform.

"RE: AI 10 Top 13 Results ECST"
Posted by batts on 03-12-11 at 07:56 PM
Well, that makes sense.
Everything you wrote.
No wonder I never win at these PTTE games on AR and AI. The only analyzing I ever do is who can sing the best IMO, and who is 'different'.

"RE: AI 10 Top 13 Results ECST"
Posted by zazzy on 03-12-11 at 12:50 PM
--She didn't have enough of a fan base to make the top 10.

--She sang third, and that means it's easier to forget about her when it's time to vote.

--Naima got the pimp spot, so that could have pulled votes away from Ashton.

--Ashton sang something that isn't a well known song. It's Diana Ross, but not one of her top, top songs. And even then, she didn't nail it, as in people were WOWed and gave it thunderous applause.

--Looking at the other mediocre people on Wednesday night (Karen, Thia, etc.), she was the weakest in terms of fan support and singing placement.

Ergo, Ashton.

"RE: AI 10 Top 13 Results ECST"
Posted by batts on 03-12-11 at 08:04 PM
I thought I overanalyzed the people. No wonder you guys always do well.
Oh, please tell me Naima will go next. Ashton was SO much better, well... IMO.

Very apparently you know what you're doing. I noticed Ashton sang a Diana Ross song that isn't well known like you said.
Thanks for the tips Snidge and Zazzy. Maybe I'll do better next year!

"RE: AI 10 Top 13 Results ECST"
Posted by zazzy on 03-12-11 at 09:35 PM
Without looking at the list of what everyone chose to sing, I can recall that Lauren sang the popular Shania Twain song with the "squeezin, pleasin" chorus...one that gets you to sing along; James sang a big Paul McCartney hit, Scotty sang the River, a popular Garth song, and Thia sang "Smile", a heart string tugging song.

My theory is that people vote for the song and the person. If the person does the song fairly ok to great, then that person gets votes.

But a lesser known song, like the one Paul sang, has to be a stunner because the audience just isn't familiar with it.

An example of nailing a lesser known song would be Adam Lambert's singing "Mad World" two seasons ago. With his vocal treatment and the eerie lighting they gave him, he knocked it out of the park.

So Paul....poor choice. If he keeps it up, he'll song choice himself out of the competition sooner rather than later. Even the Rod Stewart song was risky because it's from the early to mid 70's and how many people other than Baby Boomers really know it anymore?

I wonder if Ashton had some "help" with the song selection...someone selling her on singing that particular Diana Ross song, and she swallowed the advice. Her unhappy expression on boot night suggested a lot of frustration with the process as much as dashed dreams.

I had her going home first because I didn't think she was very good and in my opinion she shouldn't have been saved last week. It was also clear she didn't have a fan base and her performance was weak in my opinion.

"RE: AI 10 Top 13 Results ECST"

Yaa, I noticed MOST people had her going home first. That's what blew my mind. I was absolutely drop jawed when everyone seemed to mysteriously know somehow that Ashton would go first.
