"AI 10 Hollywood #2: Groups"

There is no I in Team. However there usually is a ton of drama when you throw a bunch of I I I I Me Me Me Me Types together and each is convinced that everyone else will only bring them down.

*makes popcorn*

Is it too much to hope for competing sob stories in the same group. I'd love to see a my sob story is sobbier than yours fight.

"Ratings."
Posted by Estee on 02-16-11 at 08:51 PM
Tonight isn't a heavyweight clash for the title belt, but it represents a pretty significant warm-up fight. Survivor hasn't gone ego-to-ego against AI since the Wednesday switch: tonight is the first of a midweek battle series for the two franchises. Both have lost something from their audience, both have people saying they can't recover as long as the current policies remain in effect -- and realistically, both are in now-or-never mode to show if they have anything left in the tank. Add in the fight over the reality diehard viewership and tomorrow's numbers are going to interest someone in an executive office.

Are we looking for a future star or avoiding the Hantzhole? Only the survey-takers know for sure.

Mostly because I forgot that Survivor was on tonight until I saw it mentioned on RTVW after the fact. This is what happens when CBS changes the name of the show every season--Tivo doesn't know to record it unless I manually add it. Oh, well. Missing out on the Russhole is never a bad thing.

Courtesy of Emydi and Entertainment Weekly.

Survivor: 11.2 million

Idol: 22.8 million

http://insidetv.ew.com/2011/02/17/isurvivor-redepmption-ratings/

This may look like a curb stomp battle and the numbers indicate some pretty heavy damage to the actual curb -- but the AI number also represents a low for them. They are competing for a common audience core, and some people went left while others went right. Given that it's FOX, 'right' was the dominant direction.

CBS can't scream too loudly, as this is a better performance than most shows can manage when fighting a case of Ravening Seacrestia -- but it still doesn't look good. And some of that loss can be pinned firmly on the Hantzhole.

For their part, FOX can relax -- temporarily. The percentage drop they have can be explained away by that core struggle. But further slippage... well, that could be a lot of things. And the list of those things starts with 'backlash'.

Cross-posting to Survivor as it's important information for both shows.

I'm curious to see how these numbers will also compare to TAR and DWTS when they start up in the next couple of weeks. Yes, they all aren't on at the same time, but remember that DWTS did have the #1 ranking a few of the first couple of weeks last year...

Anyone watching the following night (Wednesday) will probably stick with the show. There were some good performances and a few favs that stood out for fans to follow at this point.

First round was hell over 150 sent packing, of course it was the biggest, you let everyone come, give out that many tickets you are going to get a superlative out of it.

This year even worse than all the clips of groups before.

"Twenty songs on the list"
Posted by Snidget on 02-16-11 at 09:07 PM
How many will we here.

Tonight is notorious. Day one started forming groups and rehearsing, they got a surprise. Must have Day one and Day two contestants. All their plans are now chaos.

People leaving groups for other groups.

Tiffany's ego words may be coming back to haunt her. No one wants her.

Scotty also having group finding issues.

Tiffany steals the Day Two people from the group that was begging for a day 2 person.

Oh my.

"RE: Twenty songs on the list"
Posted by Estee on 02-16-11 at 09:12 PM
Scotty's problems are more legitimate -- he really doesn't harmonize well with others: you either find a solo spot for him or come down to his level. Beyond that -- chaos.

What happens if you just can't hook up with anyone? Suitcase in the hall, hope you get the early flight?

"RE: Twenty songs on the list"
Posted by cahaya on 02-16-11 at 09:26 PM
Good point about Scotty. His tone and range is so much different than almost everyone else, it's hard for a group to find a fit for him.

Pandemonium still in control.

Scotty finally finds the Guaps

11 pm, chaos finally comes to a close. Producers let Tiffany have a duet.

They can't get away from each other to hear their own group.

Well, well, well. Spends some time with b/f (who doesn't seem to do or say much, anyway) and at some ungodly hour of the morning, she's back in the group with welcome arms.

"Ex couple decides to be in the same group"
Posted by Snidget on 02-16-11 at 09:23 PM
Oh vey. Why not let the be in different groups?

Ashley was feeling good earlier, but is now falling apart. She is ready to quit. Which screws over her all Day one group.

They again promise greatness, if you have to hype it that much to convince us it will be great, I do not believe it will be.

Guaps thinking 5 is one too many, lets JC go. 1 am and he's trying to find another group.

Jordan Dorsey questioning the group's song. He was high standard guy earlier, but now is going to leave his group. Lauren confronts him to just make a decision. He finds another group.

2:30 am. Ashley finally makes a decision and she is going to stay. Will the group let her back in.

Brett's Group can't find another day 2, so they have to break up. JC is a day 2 person, so jois their group

3 am, people start heading off to sleep.

Rough evening for Rob. Three's company one of the last to leave.

The sun comes up as it always does.

Seriously: Phil Gordon couldn't track this mess.

And Scotty's harmony problems just keep standing out. If he makes the voting rounds, the producers are going to be throwing fits trying to work him into the group number every week.

These three look made for each other, and each could pass for a model. Sheesh, change the wardrobe just a little and you'd have a Victoria's Secret commercial trio.

Anybody else notice which (types of) people tend to gravitate towards one another? Obvious case here.

"Groups still rehearsing outside"

The minors vs the stage moms still going on.

The Deep Vees. With Autistic Adam wannabee.

Ryan looking for Aston to tell him that he is being punk'd.

The stage mom's keeping an eye on it.

Strong voices, strong song, harmonies painful. Bad Glee audition.

Caleb, James ares staying, rest going home. Moms are not having it. Sure their kids will all be spectacular.

That was not nearly standing ovation and fall down crying good. Really Steven? Oh gosh, they are all through.

"RE: Groups still rehearsing outside"

Group basically leaves the lead to James (who can belt out the screamer), which pretty much jeopardizes the rest of them.

The fab five are all through. That Deandre (sp?) guy had a really interesting vocal change up which showed a lot of range and variety, right on note.

Poor Rob is trying to take a breather. The two girls are planning his death.

Less than electrifying performance by a group.
Judges shocked about the cheating, tempted to not let anyone through.

Corey and Holly make it through. Corey wants to know why, then takes the advice to get off the stage.

"RE: Three's company, last group"

Now it's my turn to ask why?

They should have ditched all three of them. Besides, didn't that bleep count for an automatic disqualification?

I thought only the judges are exempt from that rule.

ITA-all 3 of them should have been sent packing. They were awful. The only redeeming factor was that the girls at least PRACTICED, and I don't know if the judges somehow knew that or not...

BUT, whatshisface should have just been kicked in the butt with the first misplaced word, and escorted off the stage. He had a 'no way are you gonna sent ME home' attitude. I couldn't stand him from start to finish. Same with Mr. White Glasses who kicked JC off his team.

Some of the people are going to understand someday that they are not all.that. Others? Like "jersygirl"? Not so much...

I always enjoy the "Dreaded Group Sing" and this was one of the better ones. Often, the impression that we received in the initial auditions were shown here as also being accurate.

(I don't remember the young man with the white glasses, but he certainly does look like a villain now.)
