Which means tonight marks a very important turning point: we leave behind audition spam polls and move on to Hollywood Week spam polls!

Woo?

Any chance we can convince Webby and the Blue Peeps that Spam Polls must be the source of the red screen of terror and death?

If we splash enough spammer blood on the monitor, sure.

There are ad servers and there are id servers.

Not to mention the occasional odd server.

We've already roughly doubled the ticket count we had two years ago, and there's been a lot of focus on people who are inevitably going to be cut during the group rounds. The odds of our having seen everyone who reaches the voting stage are 0 in any positive number you care to name.

Or basically, the current setup is almost screaming 'Kris!' And not just for the Generic Caucasian Male Wins Yet Again factor -- we didn't see his audition until F2. The bulk of the crowd has been hidden again -- and despite the show's worst intentions, this plan keeps backfiring.

Wait this morning it was no chance at all of snow in my area (everywhere but here they said), now they are making snow noises on the pimp the nightly news show.

Given some of the accompaniment instruments they allowed on stage last year, why would they prohibit the winds?

Even before the word 'Ukraine' came up, the "Russian spam site model" was the first thing to come to mind. Bingo. She's well on the way to a XXX .ru site.

"RE: Inessa Lee from the Ukraine"
Posted by Estee on 02-09-11 at 09:09 PM
I actually thought her voice was better than the judges did. The problems were there, but they've let worse go through before this. For a moment, I thought they'd call her fixable and wave her through.

Is it possible that the crazy quota is filled?

"RE: Inessa Lee from the Ukraine"
Posted by cahaya on 02-09-11 at 09:13 PM
True, she had a better voice than a lot of the passes so far. I think they thought the 'passes' part of that was the problem.

Some men go for crazy.

Also, some women go for drunk, stupid, broke, and carrying a guitar.

You don't want to know what the cats go for.

or what passes for talent by these judges, because the sound on my TV isn't all that great for most of those.

"RE: Bird poop brings the talent montage"
Posted by cahaya on 02-09-11 at 09:13 PM
Funny you say, that. I've got the sound cranked to 80 where it's usually on 50, just to hear it.

Intentional mute?

I'm glad to see you post that. We taped the show and watched at 9:00. My husband thought something was wrong with the VCR. Yeah, we still use one of those. Some day we'll join the 21st century...

That had to be a 'we almost forgot that these people would be important later' segment. They actually bothered with names.

Not bad. Decent voice, upbeat attitude and a bit of charisma.

"RE: Stefano Langone"
Posted by Estee on 02-09-11 at 09:17 PM
Anyone else find it weird that no one said what kind of accident -- or the cause?

I don't think he's fully healed. There's something off about his wrist position when his arms are at rest.

"RE: Stefano Langone"
Posted by cahaya on 02-09-11 at 09:20 PM
I had a friend in the past whose arm was hanging out the window when a van he was riding in crashed on its side. Something like that is definitely lasting, although our playing frisbee golf every other day when the weather was good was great therapy for his arm.

Okay, give him this much credit. He home-built a Transformers costume that almost compresses down and actually rolls. If Face/Off has a second season, he's got a shot.

"RE: Less than meets the ear!"

I actually thought you went MIA there for a bit after two passes.

Long day at work, but also not much to inspire much in the way of snark or praise.

Yeah, long day at work here, too, and I'm with you on the lack of inspiration part of it, given what we're being served tonight. Fortunately, it can only get better from here (well, maybe).

Sweet lookin' gal! And a nice song voice to go with her bubbly personality. However, Simon would have said that her performance was highly self-indulgent, but let's not quibble. Pass.

Was that the one who sang the oldsie stuff, then did a quick guitar riff? (Sorry I’ve slept since then).

If so, I kinda liked her. I had to think about it as the song went on because her voice is, uh, different. But she seemed to hit the notes correctly, stayed on melody, and it’s refreshing to have something different. I thought the guitar added a lot to her. I really liked that. But she has no chance. The teeny-boppers aren’t going to vote for Etta James on helium.

Because that's how AI rolls this season.

James Durbin, live full of hardship.

Dad played bass, always on the road, died of a drug overdose when James was nine.

Medication for sleep disorders, Stanford diagnosed him with Aspergers and Tourettes.

Then he met an angel who changes his life by dating him, and giving him a surprise baby.

I'm wondering what form his Tourettes takes. The show has to stay on seven-second delay in case Steven has a moment of really being himself -- but if James has a bad attack on stage and he's one of the cursers, the producers may have to pull the show to save themselves from the FCC.

"RE: *cue the biggest sob story of the night*"
Posted by mindy23 on 02-10-11 at 10:46 AM
Liked his personality, but I have to say, I'm getting REALLY tired of the sob stories. Burning houses, terrorist, guerillas, gorillas, tigers, man-eating panthers, monsters inside me, what's next??? They S-T-R-E-T-C-H as far as they can to find THE most sorry, sad, absorbing, heart-clutching, god-awful story on the face of the earth.

And why???? Does that make a contestant sing any better?? In the case of the smoke-lady, sorry, I didn't think so. She was ok with the guitar, but I don't see her going very far. And the Torette guy, same with him. Too much Adam Lambert scream-on going on, and how is get going to deal with the Hollywood teaming until 3 am with someone like Tatiana?? Do they even THINK about something like that?

I predict this being the last season, if not, PALEASE, stop the cra**y sob stories and just let everyone be on a fair playing field. Just because I was never in a tragic car accident (actually I was) doesn't mean I can't sing, or can sing any better than anyone else! DARN IT! Can you tell I'm sick of this cruddy promotions?? IT'S HOGWASH I TELL YOU!
