Please keep all discussion of the results and filler until the West Coast knows if it is Tim Urban's world and we are just basking in the warmth of his smile or not.

Double checking, had me scared, you're early. It still starts at 9:00.

There's Minute to Win It at 8, but I figure the idol contestants get just a wee bit more time than that. I still haven't seen that show.

I'm just in the habit of starting threads between 7 and 8 rather than a set time prior to start.

Whaddaya know... a local weather special with two half-hour parts trumps the network programming, Surviving the Storm and Storm Stories.

The irony of this is that there's a major storm rollin' through here about 9:00. The rain just started picking up.

(eta) Just as I check the final edit to this post, there's a crack of thunder. A loud one! *crack! boom... rumble...* And it's pouring.

Posted by Snidget on 04-07-10 at 08:17 PM
Hopefully it will stay together until tomorrow night, I think that is when we are supposed to get the front that is raining on you.

Of course I got bricks coming tomorrow morning and got the garden edge prepped for it today, so I bet the storm will get here at supersonic speed and I'll have to redo everything before putting the bricks down.

This one's a two-waver. First wave just went past and after a warm day I can already see my own breath outside. I've got the screen door next to me open here to refresh the air in the house, but I'll have to close up before bedtime.

All the group performances are lip synched this year. Sucks, doesn't it? I guess it was too much pressure to have them continue to produce it live, even though the contestants managed to do that seasons 1-7.

Crystal--join Siobhan at center stage

Randy--None of the girls going home.

Studio what do you think--cheers.

Crystal is safe

Katie vs Sioban, one of you is safe, and so is the other. Take a seat.

Lee--Far side of the stage
Big Mike--Close side of the stage
Casey--Join Lee on the far side
Aaron--Stand with Big Mike
Tim--Join Lee and Casey on the far side of the stage

yep my DVR has it at 9:28 to 10:30 so local news gets delayed or cut short...but I'm sure Idol will still go over 3-4 minutes

and now everyone has to vote for Timmeh next week me and smidge can't handle the load ourselves. Bc Big Mike is safe next week bc everyone will vote for him not to mention the tweeners for Aaron and the Canadian texters for Andrew

I think Mike sang very well to save himself and it was a good use of a save if you're gonna have them...but his attitude is getting on my nerves..he kept hitting his chest like he deserved it--csno23 said it yesterday and I'm agreeing today esp after that display...Lunchmeat Mike ha true i love it!

And what happens on Idol Gives back nite? I know they carried it over in Season 6 with Jordan getting a scare (I still think her father was going to kill Seacrest) but what happened in Seasons 7/8? smidge?

"RE: and the verdict is..."

There was no IGB last year, season 8. They took a year off due to the economy.

And season 7, they (cruelly) went ahead and did have a boot that year, on the Thursday after IGB. And the boot was... (sniff) Michael Johns. People thought there wouldn't be a boot because there hadn't been one the year before...and Michael hadn't even been to the B3 before, and suddenly he was *out*. Kinda like what would have happened to Michael L last night. I guess Michael's don't do well on AI. ;)

"RE: and the verdict is..."

oh I remember that. Bucky went out 8th. Michael went out 8th. Who went out 8th last year? hmmm. Who were #s 3-12 last year? Anyway, it makes me a little antsy. Fortunately, I have bigger things to worry about this year so I don't feel too attached to anybody... or there isn't anybody that's worth my attaching too yet. I *heart* Lee but the whole Alex thing left a bitter taste that soured this season (even more than usual).

Well, it could play out that this alerts Michael fans to vote next week and then 2 others are booted instead, securing Michael at least top 7.

What is the durn theme? Yes, Adam will "mentor", but what do they sing? Maybe the itunes list will tell us. Or it will be something like songs from the year you were born.

You know, i'm really torn on this judge's save BS. Part of me says yes, Mike probably shouldn't have gone home, but then the other part of me says what is great about Idol is that it is Amerca voting, and NOT the judges. They get to cherry pick who they decide to save, and essentially overrule America's vote.

Its there for a couple minutes of drama. Its a gimmick that honestly will not get Mike that much farther. Chances are he goes home in the next two weeks like Matt did.

I don't like it, simply for the fact that its a gimmick that I suspect a good percentage of America is not happy with.

I'll disagree, although I grant that perhaps the American voters don't.

There's no way Andrew or the Tim Man compare to Big Mike. Or even Aaron for that matter. That's three strikes right there, and we haven't even gotten to Katie.

"RE: This time, it works."
Posted by csnumber23 on 04-08-10 at 07:27 AM
Well I completely disagree. The show is about America voting, he should be gone. It is not fair to other contestants, better or not they were not voted off and now two will go next week and if neither is Mike, then someone that would not have, will.

Also, I completely disagree with Mike over Andrew, obviously it's a matter of opinion but I would rather listen to Andrew over Mike any day and I feel he is way more talented.

I also don't know what your problem is with Katie, she is only a 17 year old kid who is clearly getting better every week. I will bet money she gets a record deal of some kind when this is over. A lot of others will as well including Mike. Actually the only one left that I think will not is Tim. When i say record deal that doesn't mean super star, I mean having albums out.

Clearly like anything else we all have different opinions on the contestants.

"RE: This time, it works."
Posted by Estee on 04-08-10 at 08:52 AM
then someone that would not have, will.

But ultimately, everyone goes home. All we're arguing about is the order. I say Michael shouldn't go before Andrew, and that's why I'm glad the save was used this week: it gives him a chance not to. But I realize that ultimately, he's going -- and not as the last one out the door.

Very good point. I don't have any illusions about Michael becoming the Idol, but I do have a preference who I'd like to listen to week-to-week until it's all over.

What's so unfair about it? America will be still voting next week, and if America really wants him gone, he'll be gone next week anyway and it won't make a difference.

Yeah, we disagree, but I think you are overlooking something vital in how America votes. Yes, technically Mike is better than Tim, better than Andrew, etc. But I think why people didn't vote for Mike is that he is getting predictable. Its also why Andrew and Aaron were in teh bottom three.

Mike takes every song and performs it in a R&B/gospel/soul tinged way. He really doesn't mix things up. Andrew also has turned out to be a one-trick pony. Aaron sings well but doesn't switch up the melody at all vs. the original.

America doesn't just vote on who is the best singer vs. worst singer. If they did, Tim would have been gone a hell of a long time ago. The contestants still do not get this fact. I contend this is why the bottom 3 were who they were:

* Andrew - he's a one-trick pony, people are done with him
* Aaron - People are getting bored with his karaoke performances
* Mike - a lot of people were not happy with what he did to 'Eleanor Rigby'.

True, the vote generally goes to who is the favorite, not who's to be saved. It's not like voters can rank the contestants (well, they could in a way by sending a multitude of votes, the most votes for the favorite, and fewer votes for the less favorites).

I think Mike getting the fewest votes has a lot to do with the demographics of the AI viewers and voters, which is not representative of 'America' as a whole. The tweenies are not going to vote for him with the other pretty boys still on the stage.

I think America isn't voting...well, yes, some are voting, but when AI has to tell us the cumulative number of votes so far this season, after a few weeks of not mentioning votes, that means that the vote levels are down, and I would venture a guess that they are down *a lot* versus previous seasons.

If the votes were at the levels we've seen in seasons past, then perhaps Michael wouldn't have been the bottom contestant.

Andrew has a big following. Yes, he hit the b2, but now his supporters are on alert. He was the top trending topic on Twitter after he rebounded last week in his performance.

Michael fans are now on alert as well.

Aaron--I gotta ask--who in the heck is voting for Aaron? This kid is no Idol. Is it the country support? Home state? The "grandma" vote? Kristy Lee Cook survived to top 7 with patriotic song selection and country interest in season 7. That's what I'm seeing for Aaron, although I would love to see him out next week.

BTW, Kristy repeatedly hit the bottom 3 her season (3 out of 5 times from 12th place to 8th place) before leaving at 7th place, and this is similar to what's happening with Tim. And that season we got the Michael Johns shocking boot at 8th place.

I've got a theory that AI judges have to be complimentary to the contestants somewhere along the way so they have something to show in the goodbye reel. This week they finally gave Tim something to put in his goodbye reel. His comments by the judges are tracking the same as how they handled Sanjaya. Sanjaya lasted till 7th place, too.

They can't all last till 7th place! We still need 9th and 8th out first!

So, I think we'll see one of the Aaron/Andrew/Tim and even Katie (she has been in the bottom 3, so she's vulnerable) get the boot next week but we'll likely see one of the favs go as well. There's no more save. Crystal, Casey, Lee, Siobhan....not as safe as they seem. Michael? I think he'll get a lot of support next week--pimp spot perhaps? as well as a theme that allows him to wow us next week.

I wonder what the true voting picture looks like. And Lee--he had the pimp spot this week so traditionally he should sing earlier in the show next week but that didn't stop them from placing Adam mostly later in the show last year. I think they place him later in the show because I'm guessing he doesn't have the strongest fan support yet.

And Siobhan? I think we'll see a return to the screamy high notes for next week. Adam will tell her to go for it, leave it all on the stage, etc.

I haven't voted since the David Cook-Archie finale when I dialed my fingers off for Cook because Simon had, unfairly I thought, raked him over the coals. I couldn't have voted this year even if I wanted because I don't watch AI when it's on. Two hours of all that filler crap is too much for me. (I watched it last night boycotting the results show because David Archuleta was on it,lol.) I wonder how many other people are time-shifting AI this year. People are still interested in the singers but its not the must see/water cooler show it used to be. If they watch it after the fact, the voting window is closed. It could also be this group of singers isn't motivating many to vote too!!

There seems to be some movement among the bottom depending on how well each person sings week-to-week but I would expect the next boots to come from Andrew, Tim, Aaron and Katie. They just aren't improving enough. My pick for surprise boot is Siobhan. I'm not as impressed with her as I was in the beginning and I bet others aren't either.

ETA: Just read below that Estee and zazzy think Siobhan could be the surprise boot too...

meh. He should be going home within the next few weeks anyway.

Exactly. *waves to Glow*,

And, while I'm here, the only similarity between Rueben and Lunch Meat Mike is color and size. Reuben had real teddy bear personality, and no matter how hard the judges try to convince us otherwise, LMM is a poor karaoke version.

Yeah. Like, wouldn't it be hilarious if Crystal went home next week? Or Lee? Or Siobhan? Or, you know, somebody who is actually worth saving?

My guess is one of them gets booted before final 4, and the judges will be kicking themselves. heehee.

Ding! It just occurred to me why they aren't having Chris Daughtry be a mentor ....because the comparison of Lee to Chris wouldn't be favorable enough for Lee.

It wouldn't surprise me in the least if Siobhan went out next week. It would only be a blinkworthy stunner to have her and Katie simul-exit, bringing The Season Of The Woman down to the absolute singular.

A price to pay for everything, and seldom the one you wanted.

I'm with you on Siobhan...because she hasn't been on their chosen list, while Katie is getting propped up and pimped.

Siobhan would be their shocker. And Ryan and Ellen pleading with America to VOTE! the next week, etc.

I just posted that thought up above! I didn't read the entire thread before posting. Definitely think Siobhan could be a surprise boot.

"Antique Shoppe - One Day Late "

The afternoon sun begins to set. There’s a chill in the air that sweeps across two naked bodies entwined on the picnic blanket.

MC stirs.

“Hey Casey, wake up sweetie. We’ve been sleeping forever.”

“I know. The last couple of weeks were pretty exhausting."

"I know, the practicing, the performances. That show can really kill."

"I was thinkin' more about the basement. It really did me in”

As MC smiles at Casey sweetly, they gather up their clothes, the picnic basket and the blanket and head back into the Shoppe, stiff and sore from their outside slumber.

MC plugs in the kettle. The cats wind their way around her feet.

“Casey, can you light a fire in the front room? Take some chill out of the air. Then we need to have a little talk. There’s been rumours that have been brewing that are not making me very happy.”

“Um, how about I run you a hot bath?”

“That would be wonderful. There’s such a chill in here.”

Casey slumps off to run MC her bath. He knows what’s she’s heard and while he’s somewhat afraid, he also excited at what his punishment might be.

Casey and MC take to the settee. She arranges the pillows for a bit more comfort and takes a sip from her tea.

“Sweetness?”

“Yes ‘m”

“There’s been talk in town about you bein’ um, gay. Any truth to that?”

“I know there’s been a picture out there but you can’t really think I’d go for someone as ugly as that. If I was, um, gay, I know I could get someone really hot.”

“Hmmmm, interesting. How hot?”

“Like Jason-hot”

MC chokes on her tea. The thought of Casey and Jason at the same time is almost too much to bear. Good thing “gay” doesn’t mean the same thing in the Shoppe as it does out there in the real world. This could work if she plays her cards right. Jason is familiar with the layout and with MC’s expectations. Oh yes, this could work out just fine. Just fine, indeed.
