a few questions....

why do they show previews for the next episode (where every person but one is clearly visible) before they show the conclusion of the eviction ceremony?

why are Matt's wigger moves and sob fest both poignant and hilarious?

why do I find Bryan's xylophone playing, weak chin and man boobs endearing and sexy?

"why do they show previews for the next episode (where every person but one is clearly visible) before they show the conclusion of the eviction ceremony?"

Because this show is badly put together and Spike TV are so strapped for stuff to advertise that they didn't realize they were ruining the climactic ending of the episode.

As for your other questions, you might consider talking that over with your psychiatrist.

This show SHOULD have been a great classic. It should have been made into a really solid 2 or even 3 hour, one time show, in which the whole story unfolds. Focus on the funniest things that happened, leave the filler on the cutting room floor.

The jokes are already old, and spaced out as they are between stuff that is lame at best, the show is fast becoming boring.

"Boring" is the worst thing to happen to a parody. It's trying to get us to care about everyone involved, when the point was to play a huge joke on someone. All I want to know now is what happened at the end. But no, we'll have to drag through more of these lame forced events.

Bring on Survivor and that clown Bob in The Bachelor already. This show is done.

I think this show is still hilarious. Matt's human beat box routine (nice pants, btw) was priceless.

Maybe now that Earl's gone, he can get his feet treated. Dude, those jungle rot tootsies were about the foulest thing I've seen on TV.

Fester <-- wants a Lord of the Manor pimp robe.

hey AMAI, I've got some time scheduled with Dr. Pat later this week - maybe she can help me through this with her puppets!

And Fester - hon, you were born to wear the Lord of the Manor robe!

I still really enjoy the show too. It's so campy! I thought his wigger routine last night was precious. It was hilarious. And I laughed my ass off once he started to cry. He looked so crestfallen. It's like they took the General out and shot him or something.

He is the perfect guy for this – average in every way. Bless his heart. I feel bad for laughing at him, but you know we'd act as ridiculously as he is. I'd probably have bawled too and God knows what I would have come up with for a talent.

I kept wondering why Matt would have had those shiny pants along with him. That was the big question to me.

Yup - they don't strike me as everyday loungewear.

And do you think Joe wondered how hula hoops, xylophones, canvas and paints and machine guns magically appeared?

I don't know - I've seen lots of guys in those pants around the gyms here in Dallas. And I'm assuming they told the contestants they would get them whatever they needed for the competition.. They provide props on all the other reality shows for contests.

hi holli!

I don't see silver lamé pants very often! But the silliness of him all dressed up in them is part of what makes Matt so fun to watch.

He's just so affable and willing to accept everything that's going on. Appropos of nothing, Brian pulls out a xylophone and Earl is given a machine gun. There's a hooker as part of an immunity contest, Molly plays on every school girl fantasy known to man (right down to the braids!) and he just goes along with it, never outwardly questioning the sanity or lack thereof of everyone around him

That naive quality in him is what makes the show work. You couldn't have a savvy contestant and fool him for a sustained period of time. Most people probably wouldn't go along with all the ridiculous things they are asked to do. But Matt does and it's sweet and funny and horrifying at the same time. He's not stupid, just gullible and easy going and trying very hard to do the right thing (the way he is so careful around Kip).

I'm really enjoying it so far.

I agree that Spike probably doesn't have too much to advertise so they are just trying to fill time. The whole point of having shows on a network IS still to bring in advertisers rights? I dont think these guys got it or maybe they think that Schmoe has the ability to become a franchise of some sort.

That said, I think the real reason that they show the spoilers for the next show before the climactic ending is that they just dont believe we care. It's supposed to be a parody and we know that they're all actors except Schmoe so they're probably thinking what do we care who actually gets voted off. Someone get those guys a computer. They have no clue...maybe Matt IS in on the joke and Spike TV is actually Joe Schmoe..LOL.

They've done that on Paradise Hotel and MTV RW/RR Challenges too. It's very irritating.

In any case, last night's episode was totally hilarious. I was LOL at the entire outrageous talent show. I wish they scripted more bitchy lines for Jerri to use though, her improve insults weren't that good.

They were way over the top. I am not sure if Matt was crying because he really missed Earl or if he was upset because voting didn't go the way he wanted.

"P-HO is much worse"
Posted by CantStandToLook on 09-17-03 at 11:27 AM
It's even worse on P-Ho...they do the (and I'm borrowing from another poster) "five minutes from now on P-HO hotel" and then when they get back from commercials they do the "five minutes ago on P-HO hotel".

It is so irritating to see them say the same lines over and over again as it appears that even though I'm watching it live, somehow I've rewinded my TV a good 3-4 minutes everytime they come back from commercial.

Ok enough ranting...Joe is the man.

PH couldn't have been worse that time we had to watch Holly's face over and over again when she was the deciding vote twice.

And why do we see Zack doing his monkey routine over and over again. Please make him go away...

Oh, I hated that! I was thoroughly enjoying my guilty pleasure when I realized how was all going to end. I did still love Kip's vote.

The saddest thing for me was realizing that Scerri Jerri is a better actor than all of the folks on the show.

Now picture this scene...We're at a law school, somewhere in America. A young man sits in a chair crying.

Schmo: I should have thought this through before I got here. It's not worth it, the money's not worth it. I can't...handle...the...pressure.

Perhaps Schmo should go for a less stressful profession. But what? My ESP is non-functional...

regarding the clip showing all the remaining actors before going to the elimination this was not a screw up or due to a shortage of advertisements. god knows they could have advertised that mullet show again! i think they do it as a hint.

"RE: why why why"
Posted by Lisapooh on 09-17-03 at 05:28 PM
that's just it - it's not a hint at all. Both times I've seen it, every person in the cast is visible at some point except the soon-to-be-booted.

It's just sloppy. All they woul dhave to do is show the previews after the eviction ceremony.

It's not like we watch this show for the riveting drama, but it's pretty anticlimatic when you know who's going and still have to endure all the histrionics of the ceremony.

I think the producers know they aren’t being real sneaky about the previews, but might not realize it would add anything. If they suppose the audience only cares about what happens to ‘Joe’, then why would a pre-arranged eviction matter? They might think there’s little drama in the suspense of who is evicted since it’s not the purpose of the show...unlike most reality TV. I really can’t tell if the show is ultra shallow and we are making it deeper ourselves, but just possibly their subtle ‘revealing’ of who gets booted is just another parody of our insatiable appetites for the usual tension surrounding that point in the show. The makers are in no way new to reality TV shows, so how in the world could they do that by accident??? I just don’t understand the why...

the other thing is the future episode summaries have already been released by spike and the show released pics of the three finalists that were printed everywhere i dont think thats mere incompetence

"RE: why why why"
Posted by Lisapooh on 09-17-03 at 06:10 PM
I don't think Spike is too concerned with keeping the storylines a secret, it's just a cheesey thing to do to your viewer.

The producers are obviously fans of the genre - they use music from the Mole and they offer up lots of homages to other shows that reality junkies will enjoy but won't distract the casual viewer too. I think that's great and really clever!

Who knows - maybe they release this photo and do the previews early as a hats off to the spoilers out there.

TVGuide always has the episode titles early (due to pub. deadlines), and the previews are always what vid cap spoilers use to analyze.

I also thought that it would be kind of funny if that picture of the final three isn't the final three at all and there's actually like three more contestants just out of the picture!

All of those things would be great inside jokes to the people watching the show. It just is so silly when they show these dramatic, tense moments at the elimination ceremony to build this mock tension and then the very first commercial is a preview of next week's episode with the chick marked for eviction at the center of the clip.

"why do I find Bryan's xylophone playing, weak chin and man boobs endearing and sexy?"

Remember the thong sequence on Schmo?

Did you ever see that Simpson's when Homer puts on a thong and it immediately get sucked up between the cheeks, so he puts on another one, and the same thing happens, and Homer says, "Hope it's goin somewhere good" then Homer shakes his thonged A!ss at a woman on the beach...

....just like Brian did, he shook his A!ss during the thong ceremony. You're either gonna laugh or cry, so you might as well laugh (after you cry).

>"why do I find Bryan's xylophone playing, weak chin and man

Well, it actually takes a fair amount of skill to play the xylophone that well. In terms of outright study required, mastery, and performance, it was probably the strongest talent exhibited during the competition. (In terms of 'I don't care how I look, I'm going for the gusto', that would be Matt.) However, I have to confess to waiting patiently for Brian's melody to mutate into 'Those Endearing Young Charms', which is probably why I kept checking the right of the screen for Daffy.

(Now why the dynamite didn't go off until the middle of Kip's act, no idea.)

Since Brian's one of the staff writers, he's now obviously a man of high, multi-faceted intelligence. Absolutely nothing wrong about being attracted to someone like that.

As for the part about gynecomastics with minor challenges in the lower mandible -- hmmm. I think we need to start looking for trends here. How do you feel about Amazing Race hosts?

(Pictures Phil in a hot tub while wearing a thong and playing a xylophone. Mistake.)

i just have to say Phil rules. One of the few other R-shows I've seen, Amazing Race had a cool feel (last year anyway, I didn't watch this most recent season). You knew this guy liked some teams and others not so much, but he kept that close to the cuff and was a perfect host, I think.

Perfect in a good way, not in the bad way like Smarmy Host.

while I love TAR, I was not partiularly fond of Phil's bulbous man boobs. I think it's the way he accentuated them with the mockneck tees. They clinged in all the wrong ways. And he just kept pudging out as the seasons wore on.

They were just little buds in the first season and full-on C cups in the last.
