But the Colorado rocky mountain high
I've seen it rainin' fire in the sky
The shadow from the starlight is softer than a lullabye
Rocky mountain high

And now that you have had a supposedly sufficient detox time, Victoria Beckham is back as guest judge.

Will the lack of oxygen help? or will we be ready to toss ourselves off a mountain?

Text only, no graphics, but given Lost is back tonight, it may not matter.

At least when AI cheats me out of a comprehensible ending, I know there's going to be a worse one along in a year.

At least AI has the same unanswered questions every year.

Who are these contestants?
Why did the stylists do that to them?
How do I get paid millions for a few months of saying the same phrases over and over?
Will this show ever end at the scheduled time?

Looks like Jack Black or so he says.

What did he do to his tie?
He was on the run as a kid. Mom kidnapped him at 4, Dad found him at 10.

Kara can't take Simon and the Maui thing.

Tempted by Squeeze.

Victoria really surprised, thought you were going to do something joking. Really nice surprise.

Simon. Honest about your background.

Randy Yes or No.

Yes, Yes, Yes, though to the next round.

The whole family history thing gets kinda bizarre but he can can sing reasonably well and , although his vocals aren't exceptional, he has a bubbly personality on stage. Hollywood fodder.

I was waiting for Simon to drag out a map and make Mark track his run state by state. 'And then we hid under a bridge here...'

"About the 'Victoria is anorexic' angle..."
Posted by Estee on 02-02-10 at 08:11 PM
I know women who are naturally that thin (a few of whom hate their metabolism), and I'm not going to judge her based on being a few pounds under the so-called ideal BMI. BMI is a joke to begin with, and most of humanity gets treated as the punchline.

But for some reason, there's something just a little bit disturbing about her shoulders. It's as if those aren't her own arms...

...must be the dress.

"RE: About the 'Victoria is anorexic' angle..."
Posted by Snidget on 02-02-10 at 08:16 PM
Maybe they didn't rebuild her quite right.

Although it could be the dress I do find a lot of strapless dresses do odd things that make one look odd.

"RE: About the 'Victoria is anorexic' angle..."
Posted by cahaya on 02-02-10 at 08:23 PM
She looks ok to me, though definitely on the (perhaps too) thin side. There are some light dresses that would flatter her slim build, but tonight's isn't one of them.

Hosts a Karaoke thing, how perfect.

I'm the Only One by Melissa Etheridge.

Very loudly.

Simon likes her, but you are almost broken, came her just in time to rescue you from corporate hell. Not allowed to be who you should be.

Kara, most moving audition.

Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes. Going to Hollywood.

"RE: Danielle Hayes"
Posted by cahaya on 02-02-10 at 08:25 PM
One of the better auditions we heard and she seems sincere, a few tears involuntarily flowing after hearing the very positive comments by Simon then the other judges. Top 24 potential here, especially if the judges decide to give her extra attention in the Hollywood elimination rounds.

Simon Bad audition
Kara. I disagree, has a good voice.
V, what you do you look like with your hair down, great look,
Kara, work on your personality.
Kara wants him to strip for her.

Kara is horny and says yes, V on the same hormonal swing.

Simon, this is really embarrassing.

Girls say yes. Randy says yes for the girls.

High school student.
One of the kids made pictures of the judges.

Gravity by John Mayer.

Kara really likes her.
Simon I'd put Hope through finds her voice annoying.
V. Likes the look as well as the voice.

Randy, yes, V, yes, Kara, Yes. Simon says no but it doesn't matter going to Hollywood.

"RE: Tori Kelly"
Posted by cahaya on 02-02-10 at 08:34 PM
It's the young lass with her that won the judges' hearts. Simon's probably right in that she won't last with those vocals, but well, she's going to Hollywood!

Yeah, it has to be the thin air and the way it less carries the sound.

Music competition major and football player but not a position that does much.

This is his 42nd on his goal list.

This is a call to the color blind?

So he passes his classes because they need him on the football team?

Randy, is that the way you sing, no a trick up his sleeve.

Kara, grabbing his pecs, you come off cocky.

Simon, I think you could be very annoying.

V. WHAT DID SHE DO TO HER HAIR?

He is getting nos and he tries to talk them into yeses. Like he has a great story.

Didn't we have this discussion back a couple of seasons ago with both an Irish girl (who didn't get her work permit straightened out in time for an earlier season) and a guy from Australia?

And living in Italy at the moment doesn't mean she can't be an American or eligible to work in America.

Well they have had foreigners on AI before.

Carly was born in Ireland (and missed one season when she couldn't arrange the work permit)
Michel Johns from Australia.

I think as long as you can legally work in the US they can be employees of 19E and be on Idol.

SYTYCD run by the same production company seems to have the same rules. As long as you can legally work in the US you can be on the show. They had one guy they wanted one year but did show him not being accepted onto the show because he didn't have a visa that would let them work.

I've seen no "you must be an American citizen" rule for either show and both have had people who are legal to work here but not born here.

But I wouldn't assume everyone living in Italy is an Italian citizen just like we have lots of non-citizens who legally live and work here. I mean lots of people work in countries other than the one they were born in even without being a citizen of that country. I didn't think that was something unheard of or unusual.

ETA: I think the can work in the US is because they pay a stipend and I thought that made you technically an employee (with all the having to have a social security number and W-2 and file for income tax stuff). They can't hire people who can't legally work in the US. I think that may be also play into the lower age limit. Even then with the minors they have to follow the entertainment industry work rules for how many hours a week of tutoring/schooling they have to be given time for every day, etc.

ETAA: I also haven't seen any long disclaimer about where someone is born or what work permits they have for anyone else, nor where they were born and every single place they lived, just their current home town on anyone.

That she traveled so far made a story and why clutter up the screen with tons of other information? They usually don't discuss anyone's work status problems on AI, but I've seen it on SYTYCD because it was a popular person everyone would have thought should have been on the show (and was on the show as soon as he got his work permit). Same production company, same kind of pay out, and it seems both shows operate under the same rules.

But like I said why should it be limited to people you know were born here when they have had top 24 contestants in other years who were not citizens? Although people did make a big stink about American Idol having Irish and Australians on it back then, as well.

Simon cute little thing, slight lisp when you sing. You are different. Stand out, you love that kind of music, infectious.

V. Bubbly, love the way you are dressed.
