"AI9 1/20 Orlando Auditions ECST"

If I don't see a yellow ribbon round the old oak tree
I'll stay on the bus
Forget about us
Put the blame on me
If I don't see a yellow ribbon round the old oak tree

Or golden ticket, or palm tree, oh wait, all the palm trees were in Chicago for the whole midwesterners like to curse thing at the beginning of the show, or at least that is the scuttlebutt.

Not that AI would ever have editing problems...

Again, no graphics on ECSTs, thanks.

LAST EDITED ON 01-20-10 AT 07:53 PM (EST)

Is 20 minutes before the show too soon to start the ECST?

I've done lyrics or poems for some of the other ones, but since people don't seem to wax poetic about Orlando I went for a Tony Orlando and Dawn song.

"Judges are......"

in Miami?

Kara and Kristin Chenoweth on time, the boys were playing too hard.

Kristin is nervous.

And the superheros are weird.

So did Theo say if he wasn't the winner he'd be in the BOTTOM 3?

something like that.

Forget about Theo, can I just jump in here to say that the producers are providing some yummy judges this week? Kristen is lovely, Kara is looking fine, and last night? Shania is all I need to say.

Almost makes listening to the likes of Theo worth it.

Wants to do it all.

Heartbreaker Pat Benetar.

That was loud.

Kara says you released a lot of stuff.
Simon you screamed.

And he's one who will keep singing.

Kara, tone is over the top.

And it is a no,

You know... his voice was ok, but his visage did him in.

Don't they know that the weird getups don't help?
If they really can sign, they don't need all that?

"RE: Theo with the blurred shirt"
Posted by Snidget on 01-20-10 at 08:10 PM
Some of them should sign their songs rather than use their voices.

Another possible candidate for me to root for. His son's autistic -- I have Asperger's Syndrome. I can relate -- though his son might be worse off than I was.

Tried out Season 7.

Tony Bennett song

Kristin, sound is pure, not worry when go up high.
Randy. Best I've heard all audition season.
Kara, have a great voice, it is honest and I believe it.
Simon, good choice of song, chicks will like you.

Make that two really good back-to-back auditions. Liked it.

Different sound and vibe between them, they're both contenders.

Nerve problem with half of her face.

Turn me on by Norah Jones.

Blanks on the lyrics and curses.

Simon, I like you but not blown away by the voice.
Randy, like your voice, broke open the ice.
Kristin, have good potential.

Small yes Simon, girls yes, Randy three big letters yes.

18 made it to hollywood from day one.

"What's the commercial time?"
Posted by cahaya on 01-20-10 at 08:33 PM
I thought two minutes was typical, but it sure seems like three. I can post, grab a quick smoke, take a quick biobreak, shake a little more salt on my popcorn, and post here just as the show comes back on right now.

"RE: What's the commercial time?"

The commercial time was longer than that, cahaya. We taped AI and watched it later in the evening. I've got a commercial skip button on the remote that advances the tape 30 seconds at a time. Most of the time I hit it 8 - 10 times, which means 4 - 5 minutes for commercials. Sheesh!

"Day two -- Jay Stone"
Posted by Snidget on 01-20-10 at 08:36 PM
No more Kristin...NOOOOOooooooooOOOOOOoooooo!!!

Come Together by the Beatles.

Beat boxes it.

Kara, that was pretty amazing.
Simon, like being in a shower.

Kara says yes.

Sings a bit of Ain't no Sunshine without the sound effects.

Simon no, Kara yes, come on Randy,

Randy finally is a yes.

"RE: Day two -- Jay Stone"
Posted by cahaya on 01-20-10 at 08:41 PM
Quite the beatbox indeed!

Then they ask him to sing and well... judging by the vote, he's passable.

"RE: Day two -- Jay Stone"
Posted by whimsey on 01-20-10 at 08:53 PM
I thought that was very entertaining. Unfortunately, now he's stuck with proving that isn't all he is. And he seemed very intense.

Hated the beat box thing - it was over the top.

I was really surprised when he sang Ain't No Sunshine. I thought his singing voice was very good - better than Blake Lewis.

"Cornelius Edwards"
Posted by Snidget on 01-20-10 at 08:39 PM
Very flexible. and the strippers taught him to dance.

Proud Mary and rips his pants.

Simon has to say yes after that. That is sacrifice.

He has more moves, but they don't want him to move at all.

He is going to Hollywood?

"Bernadette and Amanda Sisters"
Posted by Snidget on 01-20-10 at 08:48 PM
Another salon in the home thing.

Bernadette goes first Hit the road Jack.

Amanda yes (yellow) I wanna dance with somebody.

Randy, thinks Bernadette picked the better song.
Kara, they could bring something to Hollywood.

Simon, crazy nodding listening to your sister.

Randy, Says yes to the sisters.
Kara, how do you break them up, yes.
Simon blue yes, yellow no, but you are both going to Hollywood.

"RE: Bernadette and Amanda Sisters"
Posted by byoffer on 01-20-10 at 08:51 PM
Amanda sort of looked like a puffed up Eva Langoria. I'm a bit surprised either of those two went through (let alone both).

"Jarrod Norrell"
Posted by Snidget on 01-20-10 at 08:51 PM
Amazing Grace

Um, not so amazing.

Please shut up.

Will not stop singing after the no.

Security tries to take him out and he can't leave? So gets more guys to muscle him out.

They cuffed him?

Confused judges, then Simon says yes or no...

"Audition Rules:"

It's really quite simple:

Split pants = golden ticket.

Handcuffs <> golden ticket.

"RE: Jarrod Norrell"

Certifiable moron.

At least if you can't sing, grab your two minutes of prime time fame.

Or infamy.

"Day two winding down--Matt Lawrence"
Posted by Snidget on 01-20-10 at 08:59 PM
Adventure led to trouble and he robbed a bank with bb gun at 15.

Spent four birthdays locked up.

Singing Trouble.

Simon says brilliant, you can really really sing. You could have written that song, felt authentic.

Kara, agree with Simon. you hit the high notes and you have control.

Randy, you sing genuine and you got vocals.

Easiest yes and one of the bests so he is through.

Thanks for the song-by-song! No way I could list everyone's names and their songs, and I'm genuinely surprised you can during the auditions.

A few gems tonight and so far this season looks pretty good, even with the judging.

Between closed captioning and a pause button on the DVR that makes it easier.

That and learning to touch type a long long time ago.
Thanks!

"Kelsey Madsen"

LAST EDITED ON 01-21-10 AT 05:56 PM (EST)

So I have a (rather tenuous) AI connection this season. Kelsey Madsen has done community theatre out here in Iowa. You didn't hear sing last night but only got to see Kara tell her she likes her and then she hugged her dad in the outer room. I didn't recognize her until I looked her up online later, but my wife and reviewed a production of Hair that she was in last year: http://iowatheatre.blogspot.com/search/label/Hair And now that I re-read the review, I remember really liking her voice. Here's what we wrote in the review:

"Kelsey Madsen as Sheila does a moving rendition of "How Can People Be So Heartless?" She has a wonderful deep voice with a bit of an edge to it, and I would have liked to hear her sing more, and to know more about her character."

There's a picture of her at that link too.

I hope we see a lot of her in Hollywood!
