Just did a search on Yahoo! for Amanda Avila and it seems that she was on Star Search on CBS, I wonder if they know about this.

Are there rules agains it now?? Quite a few of the past contestants have been in other talent shows (Pop Stars, etc) and many make their living from singing... even making CD's etc.. (Yes even Kelly had a contract that wasn't deemed UNacceptable)

Who said there were rules against it? I believe the thread starter was asking a simple question about a particular contestant.

all righty then. I didn't say there were rules against it, I was asking *if* there were. The question the poster asked was "I wonder if they know about this" as if it were something she could get into trouble for.

<if they know about this

Probably.

And hey - she's 21, and her favorite books are the Harry Potter books. What's not to like with an avid mind like that backing her talent?

Everyone is entitled to my opinion.

I heard somewhere that Jessica Sierra was also on "Star Search".

Amanda Avila also is one of the Sirens of TI in the 15 minute show in front of the Tresure Island Casino in Las Vegas. She is one of the main stars in that show which is mostly dancing.

Here's my rant about it....

When I tried out, I thought I read that you couldn't be a professional singer. That means you get paid to sing. What I also heard, via Mario, is that only if you are a "featured" artist on whatever you sang, then you would not eligable.

Personally, I think it should be the first definaition. I want the competition to show talent who haven't had the opprotunities these "professional" singers had. It takes away the innocenses and heart of the competition. If they keep just picking people who have experience in the industry, then it takes away the "person from no where who can sing" aspect.

My two cents.
