MJ's Big Blog

http://mjsbigblog.com/american-idol-season-8-top-11-song-spoiler-rumors.htm

Megan didn’t perform and we never saw her - she had a “wardrobe malfunction.”

Matt Giraud - So Small (played piano)
Scott MacIntyre - I recognized his song, but for the life of me I can’t
remember the name of it. (played piano)
Michael Sarver - Ain’t Goin’ Down Till the Sun Comes Up
Allison Iraheta - Blame It on Your Heart
Kris Allen - To Make You Feel My Love (sat on a stool)
Adam Lambert - Ring of Fire (very sexy Eastern-influenced version that pretty much made every woman over the age of 20 in the audience ready to jump him)
Lil Rounds - Independence Day
Danny Gokey - Jesus, Take the Wheel (partial standing O)
Alexis Grace - Jolene
Anoop - You Were Always on My Mind

"Jesus Take The Wheel"? Oh no! That's bad -- for Danny! On the bright side, at least Lil didn't choose that song!

Thanks KC!

Good for Lil! I have high hopes for this one.

Kris doing Don Henley--I can see that.

Stand by me--isn't that from the 50's? Danny may get bashed for that.

Anoop--Phil Collins-ish or Cyndi Lauper-ish on this one?

Scott--that group fits him but will he have the vocals for it?

Allison--slowed down Bonnie Raitt style, perhaps? This should be good!

Matt--oh my.

Adam--not my fav Tears for Fears song...hope he makes me love it.

-------

Pre show pimp guess:

Pimp: Allison, Kris, Lil

Could be a pimp or just ok, dawg: Adam, Danny

Could be ok or a depimp: Scott

Depimp: Matt, Anoop

Thanks for the info, KoalaChick!

Danny's doing "Stand by Me"? I like it, but I suspect it'll just be "alright".

Kris might do well with "All She Wants to Do Is Dance," but he might not do so well either. Still, I like it.

YAY, LIL! You chose a great song for your voice! You'll kill the song, that's for certain!

I hope Anoop goes the Cyndi Lauper route and not the Phil Collins one. It's easier to compare two guys than to compare a guy and a girl.

I like "The Search Is Over," and I hope Scott does well with it.

I hope Allison does better with "I Can't Make You Love Me" than Amy Krebs did in Season 6 -- Amy was the first girl to go home.

I like "Part Time Lover," but I'm not sure it'll work with Matt. I can see Matt going home after this.

What in the world is "Mad World"? Don't know that song. I think the only Tears For Fears song I remember is "Everybody Wants to Rule the World."

Anyway, I think Allison and Lil will definitely be pimped, Kris will probably be pimped, Scott may be pimped, I don't know about Adam, I think Danny will get the "just okay" verdict, and Anoop and Matt will be depimped after this.

Good trivia, Belle--Amy Krebs--I don't even recall what she looks like!

"RE: Songs from the year you were born..."
Posted by Belle Book on 04-07-09 at 06:56 PM
That's one big reason why she left early -- she was generic and forgettable. Her performance didn't help her there.

Incidentally, Buddy TV got a different spoiler which in most cases contradicts the one we have here. However, it's possible that the spoiler there is inaccurate while ours is accurate. Here's the link:

http://www.buddytv.com/articles/american-idol/american-idol-8-top-8-song-spo-27585.aspx

As I said, take it with a grain of salt.

Those ones are from a couple of days ago and buddy tv just copied htem. The person with those says they have a freind that works on the show. They admitted on the place that first posted them that their friend might be feeding t hem false info.

MJ's spoilers posted after the dress rehearsal are almost always accurate because the person giving them to MJ can verify they were at the dress rehearsal.

The only Mad World I know is by Michael Andrews & Gary Jules and it is slow but is a really nice, moving song. As for Tears for Fears, I have no idea if this is the same song I know or not?

"RE: Songs from the year you were born..."

The Jules version is a cover of the Tears For Fears original. The TFF is faster with a synthesizer. The Jules version is the "Gears of War" commercial as well as being featured on several TV dramas when they feel the need to create a profound moment.

My Heart Will Go On - Titanic

All songs belong to Lil until she actually sings them. At that point, they belong to Prosperity and Her Public, in that order.

Both would be a mistake in my opinion.

But given Lil's track record on song selection, that means she will pick one of them. And, they will be copycat performances. And, the she will promist to follow the judge's suggestions the NEXT week.....

They're both very strong songs (as well as other songs from "The Bodyguard"), but she needs to make them not sound like copycat performances. And generally, you don't want to do Whitney or Celine on this show -- and these songs are so iconic!

I got this from another fairly reliable site for tonight's songs

Allison Iraheta - “Don’t Want to Miss a Thing - Aerosmith
Anoop Desai - “Everything I Do” by Bryan Adams
Adam Lambert - “Born to be Wild” by Steppenwolf
Matt Giraud - “To Really Love a Woman” by Bryan Adams
Danny Gokey - “Endless Love” by Diana Ross
Kris Allen - “Falling Slowly”
Lil Rounds - “The Rose” by Bette Midler

This was the performance order during dress rehearsal.

From mjs with comments

*Spoilers*

Allison Iraheta - “Don’t Want to Miss a Thing - Aerosmith - Armageddon - Really good on belty parts, not as good on lower register. Over all–good
Anoop Desai - “Everything I Do” by Bryan Adams - Robin Hood - He roughed it up per Quentin’s request. Favorite Anoop performance so far.
Adam Lambert - “Born to be Wild” by Steppenwolf - Born to be Wild - OMG Electrifying, snarling…headbanging…working the stage.
Matt Giraud - “Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman” by Bryan Adams - Don Juan - He was OK. Sat at the piano…soulded it up. Seemed a little nervous. Quentin told him to enunciate better
Danny Gokey - “Endless Love” by Diana Ross - Endless Love - Danny got contacts! Singing was what you would expect. Chair pimpage from Ryan
Kris Allen - “Falling Slowly” Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova - Once - Really pretty vocal. Did a nice job mixing him with one of the background singers. Quentin told him to play an intrument, but he didn’t do it.
Lil Rounds - “The Rose” by Bette Midler - The Rose - She started nice and soft…then she turned it gospelly and became shouty. Least favorite

I read this too on MJ's blog.

I think Paula's choice for Danny is PERFECT! I used to be a big TTD fan 'back in the day' of his debut CD. He's got Danny's gritty voice. Brilliant pick by Paula, I have to say.

Although i'm so sick of 'Apologize', Kris could take it and do one of his great rearrangements with the song to make it fresh...I hope.

Top 3 song spoilers--

From Mjsbigblog:

"At some point today, each will receive a text from one of the judges revealing the “judges choice” song they’ll be performing on Tuesday’s Top 3 performance show.

Danny Gokey just recieved his text from judge Paula Abdul he’s set to sing “Dance Little Sister” by Terence Trent D’Arby.

That’s a tad bit obscure, no?"

I'm so, so happy for Kris; he's having a fantastic hometown visit--here's his schedule:

THURSDAY
9:00pm - Kris appears live on FOX16 News at Nine

FRIDAY
9:45am - Kris makes appearance at ATT Store on Shackleford
11:00am - Kris has a shoot on board the Arkansas Queen
11:30am - Kris performs live at Riverfest Amphitheater
3:00pm - Kris performs live at UCA (see notes below)
5:00pm - Kris Allen parade in downtown Conway
5:30pm - Kris Allen performs live at Simon Park in Conway

P.S. Kris stopped by the Governors mansion for a surprise visit; he also did some radio station interviews (got this from looking at the photos on the Fox website):

http://www.fox16.com/content/idolminds/kris.aspx

They have video updates at the right. Kris is performing three times today. The last video is the best--he's peforming "She Works Hard For The Money" (at the end of it) and "Falling Slowly". He has really big crowds. Go Kris!

LOL at the ATT store appearance--it took someone a long time to pull that promotional tie in.

Also, if you click on the link to the Fox station in Central Arkansas, there's a long video with Kris's wife and parents. His dad doesn't say much (Kris must take after him) and when you see Kris's mom on the vid and his wife...well. you can tell he looked for someone like his mom. Would love to see a pic of his mom when she first got married...and compare it to Kris's wife.

Kris has only been married since Sept.

8 a.m. Radio interview

8:45 a.m. Radio interview

Lambert appears live on AJ’s Playhouse, Channel 9.33 FM.

The public is invited at:
9660 Granite Ridge Drive
Suite 100
San Diego, CA 92123
(yes, it’s the same place!)

10 a.m. High school parade

Mt. Carmel High School students hold a parade in honor of Lambert, featuring the school’s cheerleaders and band. The parade will take place on Sun Devil Way, which sits above Mt. Carmel High. It is a public street and the event is open to the public.

10:30 a.m. Lambert arrives

Lambert will arrive in a car convoy. “He will drive down and people can wave and greet him,” said Judy Shuta, assistant to the principal at Mt. Carmel High School.

11 a.m.-ish Lambert performs

Lambert will be escorted by security to the Sun Devil stadium, where he will sing two songs, said Sharon Raffer, public relations officer of Poway United School District.

The stadium seats 4,000. Priority will be given to students and faculty of Mt. Carmel High, which has 2,300 students, and neighboring Black Mountain Middle School, which has 1,200 students.

Remaining seats will be open to the public, who will be escorted by security to the stadium. The school campus is not open to the public, but the public can attend the performance after security escort. Seating will be on a first-come, first-serve basis, said Shuta.

The event is a “special assembly” for students. But “we do have regular school,” said Shuta. “We’re gonna try!”

11:30 a.m.-ish Lambert meets students

Lambert will meet and greet students in the drama and choir groups. “He requested it,” said Shuta.

He will also meet his former choir director Nancy Gray, who is now at Poway High School, and former drama director Dough Smith, who now teaches at Westview High School.

The school’s two past principals Joan Stewart and Scott Fisher, who served while Lambert was a student, as well as the current principal Dr. Tom McCoy, will also greet him.

Lambert will also tour the school’s performing arts center, where he sang as a student. The performing arts building was renovated in 2004 and completed in 2007.

12:30 p.m. -ish Lambert leaves"

Adam song update:

There are videos on mjsbigblog first showing Adam getting a text (supposedly from Simon) and then saying the song is "One" by U2 and then later getting another text and saying the song is "Wicked Game" by Chris Isaak.

The speculation is that one of those is the song choice and one is the back up choice and that it depends on song clearance, and so they needed to film each of those texts coming in to have it to show on AI.

Or, one could be Simon's pick and one could be Adam's pick?

"He's starting his day early at the local Fox affiliate, WITI-TV. Later Friday morning, he'll sing at his church, Faith Builders International Ministries, on Milwaukee's south side.

Later in the day he's expected to visit Milwaukee landmarks like the bronze Fonz, the Harley-Davidson Museum, the Milwaukee Art Museum and Discovery World.

Then, he and Green Bay Packers players Aaron Rodgers, Greg Jennings, Nick Barnett and Ruvell Martin will take part in downtown parade that will end at the lakefront festival grounds, where Gokey will sing again.

He ends the day throwing out the first pitch and singing the national anthem before Brewers-Cubs game at Miller Park."

One started off slow got faster...different than U2's arrangement

The crowd seemed to like Kris and Adam the best

So we have

1. Simon Fuller's choice (no more Clive! I rarely liked his choices)

2. Redo of a performance from the season

3. Coronation song.

Some indication they may be able to rearrange the coronation song which may be a good thing.

From MJ's Big Blog for the redo song

In other news, a FOX 5 reporter spilled the beans about what favorite Idol performances they’d be singing tonight. For Adam, it will be “Mad World” with “a twist.” and Kris is still deciding between “Heartless” and “Falling Slowly” but is leaning towards the latter.

UPDATE: The FOX 5 song spoilers I posted may be wrong. I’m hearing that as of Sunday night, “Falling Slowly” and “Heartless” were not songs Kris Allen was rehearsing. My source is good.

4th Update: Kris Allen will perform “Ain’t No Sunshine” tonight as his personal pick. That’s according to our Kris spoiler, littlestd. Plus, according to joesplace, dress rehearsal has already started. They only let in about 100 people…

I think forcing the final two to have to do a song from a previous week is pretty lame. Last year's finale was the best, where they didn't have to redo a song. Having the final two sing three "fresh" songs is how it should be.

Just my $0.02.

Interesting that Blake and Taylor fared the best in terms of repeats.

I think the reason they let them repeat a song is due to having to prepare 3 songs for the finale plus all the results nights songs--the schedule for Adam and Kris must be stretched to the max.

I wonder how many of tonight's songs will be available on itunes? I think the Kara song is for sure...will the Simon F song be as well?

I agree! Especially with the iTunes downloads, you get a certain style in your head and expect the song to sound the same. Kind of like going to a concert and expecting it to sound like the CD. And they are so nervous that the second time around just never sounds as good as the first....

Boo to repeats!

I really hate the final show except for the reveal at end..I never watch it live until just before 10 then after the drek coronationsong it's over I zip thru the pre drek in about 10 minutes

If you are recording it, the DVR schedule and zap2it both have it running 7 minutes over. That is the planned run over time. I'd probably set it for a few minutes past that. I think last year all the TIVO/DVR clicked off between the word David and the last name of the winner.

Actually, my dvr had it already scheduled to go to 10:07 pm

However, I varied from my usual last nite and I'm glad I did, that finale was really good, in places.

I thought I had more on my DVR to watch but I only had Glee left which is a really good show, it has SYTYCD results show as a lead in in the fall. So I was done at about 9ish or so and I started watching the finale...Lil and Queen were really good, I liked that, Kris and Keith were good, Jason Mraz was good, Lionel Richie was good with All Night....Gokey is still a douche...but when Adam starting to sing Beth I lost it....that is my favorite Kiss song and then he sang with Kiss...great hilite of the nite. Queen was also amazing.

And I got to see Normund/Nick again. And Ryan's joke about the fake boobs was hilarious

Kris winning was so nice. Go back and watch it again and see his utter surprise. Adam was so gracious. I really thought after seeing Adam with Kiss that he had pulled it off (I think if he had done that last nite he would have) And Kris at the end hugging his wife and crying...so sweet!
