I read that this morning, it was a pretty good article. I was always of the belief that our J.D. was just misunderstood & being portrayed as bad after his "I know the lyrics, because I love INXS." All along I thought he was just so focused on being a part of INXS, that he was inadvertently alienating the others. Just glad INXS understood what J.D. was all about and they picked the right guy.

I'm jealous of you, Weltek, that you have already seen the RS DVD and J.D. extended B-day frolick. I should be getting mine delivered tomorrow (I hope).

I was disappointed that it wasn't each episode on the DVD. Instead, you see some individual performances (none from the early-exit performers, though).

Here's a link-there are some special offers if you buy both the INXS Switch disk & the Rock Star DVD:

One of the highlights of my day is when my gossip e-mail arrives in my inbox. Imagine my displeasure when Lainey dissed JD. I seldom disagree with her, but this time she will be getting an e-mail from me!

What's the Lindsay Hohan thing she refers to? I didn't watch all of the Big in 05 Awards show...did I miss something?

USA today gave Switch a bad review:
http://www.usatoday.com/life/music/reviews/2005-12-05-listen-up_x.htm

Who are these "prepubecent" fans they claim are the only ones that love JD? I guarantee none of us here qualify as that!

ETA another Switch review...slightly better, but still sour:

I agree, Weltek. I wonder if she's confusing J.D. with MiG . . . wasn't it MiG who had all the little teeny-boppers squealing for him & the huge gay following?

Anywhoo, I started reading about 50/50 good vs. bad reviews. Most of the bad reviews had little factual details wrong in the articles (bad research) not much familiarity with R.S., while freely slamming the premise of the show.

What grates my nerves the most are when a reviewer claims that true INXS fans believe INXS sold out & cheapened M.H.'s name & the new INXS with J.D. is a cheap immitation. I count myself as a true INXS fan -- owning almost all of their records -- loving them since the early 80s & what a shocker I still love them now.

I choose to focus on the charts (proof is in the pudding, folks) & the good reviews. And who cares? I LOVE my Switch album (as do you gals), I have my tickets for the upcoming tour & I know it will only get better. The next album will be phenomenal, I predict, because they will have more time to collaborate & there will be more of J.D.'s input.

As an aside, as I was listening to Switch yesterday, I thought how there was no way Marty could have sang on any of the songs. Could you imagine God's Top 10 with Marty & Suzie???? Or Afterglow?? (I think they would have had to change the name to screaming orgasm).

Yeah, considering most of the concerts are already sold out, I don't think fans are all that disappointed!

I just read a good interview with Guy Chambers on the Inxs.com website. A good read about the recording of Switch. Guy thinks JD is a very talented singer!

The only comment I agree with is the heavy eyeline. I just don't find that attractive. Other than that she is just missing the point.

Here is the set for the tour. Jon designed it and it enables JD to be able to run around behind Jon.

That's funny. It was there and now all I get is a red X. Must of been moved or something from where I got it. Oh well, it was nothing too thrilling anyway. I'll repost it if I find it again.

Ahhhhhh!!!!!!!!!! How can anyone not love J.D.?????? Not only does he have that hot bad boy appeal going on but what really attracted me was his performances on Rock Star. I think he was one of the few on that show who knew how to capture an audience and knew what we the people want to see. J.D. has alot of talent to offer and his personality is enough to capture me. I say who cares what these haters think J.D. has all the right stuff and even if this INXS thing doesn't pan out, which it seems it is, we will not see the last of J.D.

This is a long video interview from Australia with Garry Gary, Tim and Andrew. They are in a restaurant so it's noisy in the background. But it is done in 2 parts. And it really shows how much they love JD. Good listen.

JD is showing up all over Australia in their gossip mags. He is attending Christmas parties with mystery women on his arm. And getting phone numbers of female journalists and flirting with everyone. Great publicity for INXS and they are loving it.

INXS' Quest for Fame and Fortune

New INXS front-man JD Fortune ruffled some feathers during the reality TV show Rock Star, in which he won the right to sing in the band.

Early on in the competition, Fortune irritated viewers and competitors with comments like this about the other rockers: "While they're learning the INXS songs, I know them because I love them."

Fortune's antics on and off stage, like planting a kiss on Red Hot Chili Peppers' Dave Navarro, made sure he rubbed some people up the wrong way. But far from putting INXS off, Fortune's straight-up attitude helped him win.

"The less bullshit you can experience, the better," drummer Jon Farriss told Sunday News.

"You know, he did some pretty funny things. I think he went through a process during the show when he had to live up to expectations. Those guys were a bunch of singers living and playing together, competing to be a lead singer of a rock band.

"There's no handbook for dealing with this sort of situation. Even for us watching from the outside it was just an incredible experience.

"We have had a lot of experience in front of cameras but a TV show was definitely a new experience for us.

"It was really organic. We were really seriously looking for a singer. We really were having to comment and give constructive criticism to the finalists."

Joining a band that has been together for 30 years seems like a daunting task.

Jon and his older brothers Andrew and Tim, together with bassist Garry Beers and guitarist Kirk Pengilly started playing together as kids in a garage.

The death of Michael Hutchence in 1997 left a hole in the band that has variously been filled by different singers, including Kiwi Jon Stevens -brother of Idol judge Frankie.

It was the band's decision to undertake a worldwide search to find a permanent singer to front INXS.

It was also their idea to approach TV producer extraordinaire Mark Burnett - responsible for hit shows Survivor, The Apprentice and The Contender - to make that search into a TV show.

"I'm really glad Mark Burnett agreed with the idea to just do it properly.

"One of the first things for us was we didn't want any cheese platters on this experience. "We thought that if we were going to travel the world and audition hundreds of people, why the hell not film it?

"It's really great that we invigorated the band's exposure. It's been wonderful, there's been so much positive reaction.

"Right now we have got ourselves a wonderful tour coming up, and JD is our boy."

The world tour kicks off in Vancouver in January, and is expected to wing its way to Australia and New Zealand in August.

From talking to Farriss, it seems that Fortune settled into the band very quickly.

They're getting on "fantastically", he says. The first single of the new album Switch was co-written by Fortune and Andrew Farriss.

"As every day goes by he's getting closer and closer to us as the bond goes deeper and deeper. He just turned out to be an extremely talented person," Farriss said.

"We have got options for a future, the way things are going. He and I get on really well. I've got a soft spot for JD and I think he has that for me. He's always gone 'I love you man'."

It all sounds a little bit like a 'kumbaya love fest', to steal a phrase from Fortune.

Farriss says Fortune stood out from the first time they saw him perform.

"Kirk accompanied him when he auditioned - he sang Never Tear Us Apart," Farriss recalls.

"He was one of the only people who got the grace of one of the band members to help him out. We went through so many people, and JD always stood out.

"I always had my eye on that guy."

So what would Michael Hutchence have made of the Canadian rocker?

"I think he would love him. He's a star," Farriss says.

"And I think there's a kindred spirit with anyone with the talent or charm that they have. I don't know how those guys do it. There's a lot of light coming from that guy's eyes. Michael was the same."

Farriss doesn't believe any of the other contestants on the show could have worked as the lead singer of the band.

"We went through a very stringent process of workshopping which would reveal and bring out the best," he said.

"JD was legs ahead of the rest."

I think it's just great that he's fitting in so well with the rest of the band. I agree that both Michael & JD have that light in their eyes quality.

Nothing much new on INXS or JD. They are in Australia. JD was seen in a Sydney pub one afternoon a few days ago (a nice place in Surrey Hills). He came in alone and was chatting with the locals and then a couple females that he was waiting for showed up. The local guys all really liked him and said he was very down to earth and friendly. JD had gotten a new tat on his back and was showing it to a guy in the pub. Then JD and the 2 females left with a couple bottles of expensive champagne (Cristal).

JD was spending Christmas day out at Tim's farm and they were going to ride dirt bikes. And on Boxing Day JD was suppose to be taken to his first Cricket match by the guys. And by now they have started rehearsals for the tour.

This is a nice find. One of the first concerts INXS did with JD was an Australian benefit in NY back in November. You can now see it on-line. And if you check the different speeds you can also pick up Pretty Vegas and Tim doing an intro to JD.

Although at one time they said his mom was going to join him in Australia for Christmas. JD's mom was not there.
