"A couple of general questions...."

Posted by Peyton1964 on 11-03-05 at 00:21 AM
OK, is it just me or does it bother anyone else when they refer to what Christina did for a living as "dancing" and "escorting?" If she can't face the reality of what she was doing and keeps trying to "clean it up" by using these types of terms, how is she going to be helped?

Also, does it bother anyone else that every time they have a plus size woman on the show, they ALWAYS have one of her goals as to loose weight? I would LOVE to see a plus size woman come on and say that she loves herself and doesn't feel like an outcast or like dirt because of it. Not everyone with extra weight feel like they aren't worth the air they breath!

And, one more....does it bother anyone else that Iyanla is also a plus size woman and she never talks about HER weight? This one really sticks in my craw!

Talk amungst yourselves!

The "dancing" and "escorting" euphemisms kind of get on my nerves too. It bugs me that Christina seems to think that since she has decided to give up hooking last month, the word "prostitute" should be banned from the dictionary. I think the reason Lisa keeps harping on it is that IV freely proclaimed "PROSTITUTE" upon hearing her (Lisa's) introductory story, but no one should dare use this term in reference to Christina, although it is a fact that she prostituted herself.

Both of your observations are things I have also thought about the show.

Christina sold her body - for money - either taking off her clothes or sleeping with strangers. She attempts to come across as the girl next door but there is a cunning underlayer about her. She is so immature it is hard to understand what she says in that babytalk manner in which she speaks. That nervous smile and laugh are unsettling by this point in the series.

How would some guy get her address at the Starting Over house? Is there a cameraman who saw her strip in Vegas?

Not once has she mentioned her GED hopes.

I wonder if Lisa might not just be a little envious that Christina is half her age and able to work - even if it is as a stripper/hooker. She really seems to act like C rubs her the wrong way. I think Lisa feels her actual age around C and that unsettles her.

Jill is heavy and I think she wants to lose weight for herself and her own security. Allison looks like she has lost weight and until today, I didn't realize how tall she is. Both dress nicely and I think are attractive in their own way.

I also wonder - if Jessica feels a little bummed that she can't play the baby role as the youngest because C is in the house. 3/5 women are about 40 and the other 2 in their 20's.

Yes, yes, yes, yes, YES !!!!

Why is it such a deep emotional issue to be fat? Drives me nuts.

I kind of understand why C gets upset about hearing the word "prostitute" either referenced to her or not. She's wants to clean up her life and keep hearing that term brings her down. Think of like if everyone referred to Jill as "fat" all the time instead of "heavy" or "overweight". Those words have a nicer tone to them. And from another post, the word "retard" was used to talk about TJ and several posters got upset. (I don't particularly like the word.) If people called her a "retard" all the time if would hurt her feelings like C's get hurt. TJ is "challenged" in areas others aren't. Sounds better doesn't it? What do you guys think?

The difference is TJ is NOT a retard and Christine IS a protitute, a whore, etc.

As for Chritine, she, in past shows they have stressed this, xhe must face her past and accept it before she can move on. Seems with her the show is treating her with kid gloves in that regards.

Does Chritine wish to clean up her life? She was far too excited to being offered a job with her mentor, another whore. How long before Christine is posing seductively online as her mentor is?

Chirtine mentioned to Alison, when trying to help her per the assignment, that she can type 90words a min. IF that is true she would make far more in an office than she would working for her mentor.....oh but wait, forgot, that she now has another outlset to be a *stripper*, posing online at her mentors site.

Christine is a stripper, a prostitute, a whore who can type 90words a min yet couldn't or didn't bother to, find mainstram employment.

She is not as immature as she would like her housemates, her LC's, and the viewers think. She knew where the money was and ran with it.

Funny how she keeps mentioning she quit one month before coming on the show................well, doh, she would have had to, that is about the time the ladies are notified about being on the show. IF she did indeed quit whoring one month before coming on the show. One never knows with her about truth etc.

Remember Deborah, season two? She gor notified, *celebrated* and then came to the house thinking she was pregnant.

I think she also bragged about coming on the show to people to make herself look better and one clients remembered and sent her those packages or the show sunk to a new low and sent them themselves.

What ever happened with using the infamous word: Integrity? I don't see that word being sued on Christine at all............actually haven't heard the word used this season yet.

Chuckling...maybe the show decided not to use it since they were caught on not using it in practive so much last season..

I'm going to argue with you a little bit... it's the tourist industry in Vegas that gives these professions such gentle names, so how could the victims not buy into it?

Also, does it bother anyone else that every time they have a plus size woman on the show, they ALWAYS have one of her goals as to loose weight? Not everyone with extra weight feel like they aren't worth the air they breath!

In the first season there was Maureen, Rain and Teresa, who were chubby but they left them alone- although Teresa pointed out her weight loss even though it wasn't one of her goals! And in season 2, I think they didn't make Bethany or Candy focus on their weight so much. So there is a little hope there.

After reading the posts, I have a question:

When does 'is' become 'was'? As long as people keep saying that Christina 'is' a prostitute, there will be the external pressure to think of herself that way. We don't say that a person who becomes CEO of a company 'is' a fast food cook even if that is where they got their start. Prostitute is a job. She can get a new job.

How much guilt are we as a society willing to heap on Christina and other women and men who have made those choices even after they move on to other jobs? It seems society is hypocritical about sex. Intercourse for money is seen as bad, but simulated intercourse for money (the movies, tv, music, etc.) is encouraged.

Good point. We feel the same way about war and violence in our society, too. We applaud and award honors to movies that depict the most brutal, gory, horrific scenes of war, but we can't bear to see coffins coming home from Iraq or see photos or footage of the REAL scenes depicted in the movies we laud. Go figure.

I don't care what they call Christina's former life........it's FORMER! and I wish they would stop throwing it in her face. Why don't they just sew a SCARLET LETTER on all of her clothes!

As for the Plus size stuff? YES, I would love to see a plus size woman enter the house and have her problems not be about her weight! Not all heavy women, are messed up!

And yes, I would LOVE to hear Iyanla admit that she is OVERWEIGHT!

She's done that in an interview. She said she gave up worrying about it in her 30's.

Now, apparently, she just concerns herself with other people's weight problems. What a hypocrite.

Well, maybe they should have pinned her with the scarlette letter like they did last season with Sommer. That was done in group. And Sommer only had a one night stand with a married guy. Lord knows how many married guys Christine slept with.

As the show has stressed in the past, one must face their past to move on. Christine can't even admit she was a prostitute, how can she move on? UNLESS what the show stressed in the past to other houisematws about facing their past was bad advice and are not ignoring their own words of *wisdom*.

Actually, I noticed Iyanla discussed her weight several times last season. The comment I liked the best was, "when they stop making sizes for me to grow into, that's when I'll lose weight". Not a healthy attitude but she appears to be very comfortable with her size. As nurturing as she is, her size seems to become her.
