The Top 12, the bigger stage, with more instruments, personal stylists and even bigger chances to lay a humongous egg on stage.

Last night we saw a new inductee into the AI Hall of FameShame for her extremely damaging performance of Eight Notes a Second 8 Days a Week...{drumroll}

Ms. Kristy Lee Cook.

Now American Idol has a history of terrifying performances.

For those who have blocked past horrors from their mind, a quick review of the worst AI performances from AOL

Surely her performance tonight will be making the worst list for years. What performances are you still in therapy for after all these years? It didn't make AOL's list but Sanjaya's Bathwater rendition still makes me cringe.

Actually at first I would agree but then upon rewatch I see there were 2 far worse than her last night.

David Hernandez and David A.

She at least took a risk. So this episode might go down as 3 of the worst performances ever!

*sits next to Yeti & tummy.*

It started off pretty rough, I thought Syesha would be one of the worst, but she actually ended up in the middle.

Agrees with Tummy and dragonflies and would stand next to them except was up all night with dog who had been sprayed by a skunk so doesn't want to stink them out!

I have those in the running for dullest performances ever.

While Dull and boring is bad, I find for me what really makes a Worst performance is when they take one of those big risks with the song and it completely backfires.

Just doing it straight up and badly just puts me to sleep. It still is a bad performance, just a different category from the epic train-wrecks when a potentially bad idea completely derails.

See I would have to completely disagree there.

A performance should never be dull or boring. That is far worse than a risk backfiring such as Kristy. Your job is to entertain. If you don't take the risk and tank there just is no excuse. You don't belong there.

The two David's performances are as you say "epic train wrecks" because they have been hyped and pimped to no end. This should have been "easy" for them if we were to believe the judges prior to last night.

But, but....The Two Davids weren't just Dull and Boring. They were screetchy, gaspy, wheezy, pitchy, forgetful and disturbing.

I would say that "Irritating" took the night off but I would be wrong. He just stayed backstage.

I agree with Snidget.........

NOTHING was as H-O-R-R-I-B-L-E as that Country-Fried Mess of a Beatles song Kristi put out last nite. It was so bad that even I felt embarassed for her... and I've been trying to send her home for weeks.

She was so out of synch with the band it was painful. And the arrangement! Didn't anyone tell her it stunk?

LAST EDITED ON 03-12-08 AT 09:44 AM (EST)

Her singing wasn't so awful, in my opinion. I imagine the band was ticked off that she wanted to sing a Beatles song country, and so they came up with the worst hoedown arrangement imaginable and kept speeding it up throughout, just to teach her a lesson.

How often is someone so bad that you wonder how they ever made the top 12?

That was so memorably bad. We have had bad performances in the past, but they were easily forgotten (except for Scott Savol and the red headed kid)... but this one was seared into my AI fan brain.

The thing with Kristy is that you know eventually she will go. She may get Haley Scarnato'd into the top ten due to a looks/cuteness factor, but eventually she will be toast.

And as for David A, I expect to see future theme weeks that are in his wheelhouse of material that he has already honed for years. It goes along with their pimp plan. Mariah Carey guest mentor? David has a whole storehouse of diva songs at the ready.

David H? I contend he goes this week. That's what my PTTE says and I'm sticking to it. ;)

This is the first year I haven't been watching Idol at all (mostly because I got so bored with last year), and I happened to catch some of last night. That country performance of 8 Days a Week was one of the worst I've heard - and I LOVE country music. Nothing was redeeming about it. My ears hurt after that. What the heck was she thinking!?!?!?

Other nominations from me include anything by Taylor Hicks. Blech.

It was almost as if she found a cheap software that country-fied all rock songs. The input was Eight Days a Week and the output was just so painfully banal and unbelievably awful.

David H's weird snapping last night reminded me of Taylor Hicks.

Overall, I have decided that Beatles remakes are just too blasphemous for me to handle.

"Blasphemous"-now THAT is the word I have been trying to conjure up since last night. THANK YOU! Oh, Lord. I'm so sure Lennon and Harrison were rolling in their graves, and God help them, if Ringo and Paul were eating-I just hope they didn't choke!!

That was beyond WORSE, beyond BAD, beyond ANYTHING EVER on AI, EVER! Yes, I'll take blasphemous and go with that. And to think she validated it over and over by saying how much she LOVED it. WHAT??? Sweetheart, wait until you hear it on the rebound-you will want to crawl under something and never come back, I promise! Unless you are that deluded.

Yep, it's going to be a bu-bye for her tonight, unless David H. slips out of favor, and I think he's been on that slippery slope for the past week. So, we'll see....

I almost want to write to Paul and Ringo and apologize to them for what this girl did to HISTORY! But what can I say? I'm sure they've heard worse. After all, they DID have to deal with Yoko, right??? (Talk about screetching..............)

I don't think they were rolling over in their graves. After all, no one enjoyed a musical joke better than the Beatles.

That's a good description of how she probably came up with her version of Eight Days a Week. What happened to some of the songs that were done last night is probably why it took Idol eight (seven?) seasons to get permission to use them.

And if David H's weird snapping reminded you of Taylor Hicks, I'm going to be glad that I didn't see his performance. <shudder>

This is how bad "8 Days a Week" was:

After hearing a part of it, I ran to Big Brother to hide!

If she gets the boot tonite, we get to hear her perform it again.

Good grief.

This is right up there with when that poor red-headed kid sang Crocodile Rock. :shudders: Baaaaaaaaaaad.

OMG...that made me shudder...that thought alone of her repeating that fiasco may be reason enough for the producers to either a) pick someone else to be booted, or b) have her sing out right as they cut the show off the air.
