So what, no one is going to talk back to Simon, how boring.

over 10,000 people auditioned.

Guy was going to audition, but his wife's water just broke.

Rayshard (Ray Henderson) and his afro is the black Clay Aiken. "I Can't Make You Love Me" Definitely into the dramatic posing while singing.

Simon says you do remind me of Clay. Simon expected a magic trick. Randy says it was so over the top. Paula says it is too theatrical. 1970's cruise ship cabaret and they send him packing.

From Kelly Pickler's home town we have. She'll go after you with a baseball bat because she will break her neck in heels. "Fancy" DeAnna Prevatte. Yells and again with the on their knees thing. You are a little tiger aren't you says Simon. He says it was angry. I don't have a great voice, but a lot of passion. And it is three nos. Simon promises to only have one helping on all you can eat day.

Low ratings may bring out the more "challenging" folks.

Well, here we go folks ...

Experimenting with mojitos tonight. Line up, they come with salsa and chips.

Sounds good.

Enjoy! My neighbor is on Alli, so I baked the chips myself and sprinkled with sea salt and cilantro - the salsa is traditional. She seems to like it.

Of course, I did give her 2 mojitos first.

Oh good! Tonight's meeting was the weigh in for a weight loss study I will be in until the end of April.

Seriously, we also watch Nip/Tuck or Project Runway at my place. I'm trying to help, but I need hints, running out of recipies. Maybe I'll solicit the OT for help.

You can cut up Pita bread to make chips like you did the tortilla and do a hummus without a lot of added fat (put a drained can of garbanzo beans/chick peas in a blender, add a touch of sesame oil some lemon juice and some garlic, you can add roasted red peppers or a bit of hot sauce)

"Randy and Crystal, Michelle and Jeffrey"
Posted by Snidget on 01-23-08 at 08:28 PM
Message board romance couple. They need to get a room, how will they do in the audition room.

Randy Stark and Crystal Ortiz. "She's More" Simon says that was complete torture. They give advice about auditions. The good news is that you found each other. Randy say singing definitely not. Even not at family events. Congrats on the love and check into a hotel.

Michelle and Jeffrey Lampkin. Singing Porn with each other. Yikes. Bow Chicy Wow Wow. I.Am.Not.Kidding. "I'm Your Angel" in the audition room, thank goodness. Slightly inappropriate holding hands at the end says Simon. He like Jeffrey's singing better than the sisters and they are a breath of fresh air. Paula says they has a gift but needs some work.

Randy Yes to Jeffrey. Paula, Yes to Jeffrey and Michelle. Simon. Goes with Paula and they are both in. Nice Simon can't split them up and he has 3 months to get his sister in shape.

Simon has a nice twin instead of an evil one?

Michelle and Jeffery:

I would like to have been in the waiting room with them, I'm sure they would have kept me in stitches. They sang well together, but my ear isn't good enough to tell who is better.

They seem to "market" themselves in comedy, and just happen to be great singers. Wonder how long they will last.

Sorry ladies, no more message board romancing for me. (that was weird, especially the trash can dramatization)

So you don't want me to flash you the purple bruise on my bum?

Did I mention there is a mojito in the deal? Dude, come on!

"Amy"

And new Daddy is lost on the way to the hospital.

Parade of bad singers to "Before He Cheats"

Amy Catherine Flynn. Captain of the Dance Team. STARS, abstinence from sex, drugs, and alcohol. Simon says sure I will hear the speech. She likes Simon a lot. "Refections" OK until she went into the upper register. Paula thinks the end was pure innocent and beautiful and she is a yes. Simon thought the song was too big for her. She thinks that is a bit much to say. Simon says people will find you annoying and she sasses back. Yes from Simon, Randy says you have mad potential and it is a yes. They want her to give the speech to Ryan.

A pitcher of mojitos and a box of condoms to the first person who guesses what I think about Amy "little miss sunshine/abstinence" Flynn.

LAST EDITED ON 01-23-08 AT 08:46 PM (EST)

Oliver finally got to the hospital.

Last contestant of the day warms up.

London Weinberg. Woke up every morning to the ocean. Lost her Dad three years ago to cancer. Her music was on hold during that time. Full time Musician "Good Morning Heartache". Randy: Nice tone, kinda liked it. Paula liked the tone, it is pleasant and engaging. Simon thought it was a good audition, there are thousands like you, not unique. Paula yes, Randy says um yes. OK you are through.

15 people through on day one.

"RE: London"

I thought she was "forced blues-y". Not convinced about London, but the truth will out in Hollywood.

"Lyndsay, Aretha"
Posted by Snidget on 01-23-08 at 09:01 PM
Is paula wearing leg warmers on her arms?

Lyndsay Goodman flies really big planes. She always wanted to fly and sing, she's done one of them. "Black Velvet". I like her, and usually I don't like people singing this song. Randy liked it but pitchy in places. Paula says she worries about her nerves. Simon says cabaret, not contemporary, and it is a no.

Sending in the Big Guns.

Aretha Codnar "I who have nothing" Well she has a big voice. Simon says the funny blue dress and the screaming didn't work. No you do not have a beautiful voice. She says she stops crowds. You seriously murdered that song. Randy says it wasn't good. Paula says you changed keys. Paula loves her confidence. Three nos.

She doesn't believe it and she is trying to talk them into changing their minds. Tries to get one more chance. She says they have bad opinions on music.

Joshua Boson. Kill.Me.Now! Please. I am not going to love you, no way no how. They are speechless. It ain't good enough and he says this is what you get in South Carolina and the show is rigged and I'm a good person and you are not. Not the best Audition says Paula. He storms out. He says no one can sing in South Carolina. He says it has been on all the news that South Carolina svcks. He says his talent is too big for this competition. Oh dear.

"RE: Lyndsay, Aretha"

Do people wearing outfits like that really think anyone will take them seriously? At one point Aretha has on a jacket/sweater ... she knew this was wrong. Good heavens.

Parade of bad singers. Lots of crying shots. No.No.No.

Oliver Highman and his wife had a productive day. He brings wife and baby to audition. "Get Here" Simon says it is over the top with the weird falsetto. Randy has problems with the vibrato. Paula wants to say yes, but it is no, no, no. They do let him bring in the baby for them to see. Simon says in a strange way he feels like it is his baby.

Aw, at least they have a great story when she grows up.

They picked a total of 23 to go to Hollywood.

Next week, Omaha.

Ryan has to sit in for Paula and tries to figure out how to act overpaid for doing no work.

Having a baby never looked so easy...I thought it was strange that she had the baby the day before then the NEXT DAY was stopping by American Idol audtions? Last I checked, the hospital kept you at least two days...maybe they make exceptions for American Idol babies. If so, props to her for looking so good immediately giving birth!

"RE: Oliver"
Posted by byoffer on 01-24-08 at 09:08 AM
There is no rule about how long they keep you in. With my second and third kids we were home the next day.

Usually they want the first poop to happen in the hospital, just to make sure the "plumbing" is working.

"RE: Oliver"
Posted by CBailey on 01-24-08 at 09:11 AM
I said the exact same thing when watching the show last night. Some time had to have elapsed.

"RE: Oliver"
Posted by Snidget on 01-24-08 at 09:23 AM
Actually these days they boot you out of the hospital ASAP. Some insurance companies will only pay for like 6-12 hours after delivery unless there is something wrong found right at birth. Basically first poop and you are sent home.

There has been some debate trying to force the companies to pay for all women to get 48 hours after birth in the hospital and stop the drive-through delivery service because things do go wrong in the early stages and the hospital is a better place to pick up on that than hope a new Mom realizes something is wrong in time to get back.

I think that I heard someplace that the huge casting call is whittled down and only a handfull (of good and bad singers I presume, plus probably those with compelling stories) are called back when the judges are in town. So it is possible that at least a few days had passed.

How would you like to be in labor and have a cameraman get the front seat and you had to ride in the back?

"RE: Oliver"
Posted by Snidget on 01-24-08 at 10:52 AM
They do some pre-auditions before the judges arrive, but I can buy him being the first one up on Day One and being back as the last audition on Day 2.

Around here we don't ever bother sending anything to the hospital when someone is having a baby. They send them home so fast that the florist wouldn't even have time to get anything to the room before they are sent home. They really do a lot of drive though deliveries because a lot of the time because that is all the insurance will cover.

If she didn't want to be a DAW she could have refused to have the camera in the car.

I'm more worried about someone that would bring an infant that young to something that public. Most people I know won't take the kid with them to a store for the first several weeks unless they have no other choice. Too many germs you could get a newborn exposed to. Sure was cute.
