Please keep all discussion of tonight's twirls, thrills, spills, screams, inexplicable twitching that Nigel does when he's "dancing", filler and pimpage on this thread until the West Coast's ears stop ringing from the *maryscreams*.

No sig pics, sig pics derail the hot tamale train.

"Jidges"
Posted by Snidget on 06-25-08 at 07:24 PM
Adam Shankman, Mary Murphy with too many rhinstones on and Nigel in a white blazer that really doens't do much for the pasty thing.

Adam says he almost wore the same dress as cat. He says she looks cat-tastic.

Just got done shooting a movie and got some people from the show in it.

Mary says it is shaping up into an unbelievable season. Last year it was easier to tell who was going, this year all bunched up in a pack. It is going to be tough and our best year ever *maryscream*

Nigel. The world lost a legend. Cyd Charisse. She was almost as tall as Cat and Nigel danced with her. She shouted at him. He says to rent some of her films They show a clip of her dancing.

"RE: Jidges"
Posted by StarryLuna on 06-25-08 at 07:36 PM
Me too! I think he's a breath of fresh air compared to the other jidges. Plus he's just sooooooooo enthusiastic about it, which I know annoys some people, but I just want to hang out with him and come up with other cat-words.

I wish wardrobe, hair, and, makeup would stop torturing and aging Mary. I was watching YouTube clips of earlier seasons and she used to look so much more natural and pretty without all the crap on her head and face and around neck.

"RE: Jidges"
Posted by whimsey on 06-25-08 at 07:42 PM
It's nice to hear Mary referred to as aging, not old. I read somewhere, I think "People" or some such that she is 50.

If that's 50, I'll take it.

But I still can't stand that shriek of hers. Or much else for that matter.

"RE: Jidges"
Posted by StarryLuna on 06-25-08 at 07:45 PM
Wow, I thought she was only like 40 at the most.

Agree on the shriek. She used to make me laugh, now I just want to fast forward when she speaks.

Hip Hop / Napoleon & Tabitha

Ask the partners about each other for the filler clips.

We don't know that Twitch sounds like a bear when they laugh.
Kherington has a huge shopping problem.

Routine is about a prison break.

Dancing to:
Don't Touch Me
Busta Rhymes

Wearing grey stalking caps, orange jumpsuits and black boots.

"RE: Kherington and Twitch "

I liked that!
lots of personality.

Cat didn't see nothin'. Nigel saw nothin'.

Nigel. You are both brilliant dancers with a spirit and an energy that goes beyond dancing. A light in your eyes that is captivating. T&N created a good routine, there is a story and a humor there and room to show your personalities. You danced it brilliantly.

Let me list the negatives.

Can't think of anything.

Mary. They are going to be on the top 10 most wanted SYTYCD list. I thought I wouldn't see the hitting with the outfits but I could, and Kherington you brought it up two notches and Twich was great. *MARYSCREAM*

Adam. That not so sure I missed Mary's scream. Nigel says take her she is yours. Adam says that will shock a few people. What am I supposed to say. It was awesome. I am going to make some suggestions for the future. When you get hip hop again. Make sure you teach her how to do stops. You came a long way. You guys discovered something mature dancers know which is how to hit it and how to pace yourselves. Keep that up, that was awesome. Kherington, dropped character when scrambling to get in place. All in all, awesome.

I thought they were great. But every once in a while I saw Kherington smile and then she'd try to stop smiling. I wonder if N&T told her not to (she was breaking out of prison after all) or if she was just remembering Mia's critique from before. It didn't really matter, it was a fun dance, a little tongue-in-cheek.

"RE: SYTYCD-4 6/25 Top 16 ECUT"
Posted by DrKegel on 06-25-08 at 07:41 PM

Kherington can get down!!!! Wow!!!! Love this couple!!!!!

The highlight? That horrible man - Shankman - giving tips on 'hitting'? Was he confusing hip hop 'hitting' with the way he 'hits' on all the very, very young male contestants?

Oh, he is so disgusting!!!! Poor Travis. And he picked Lacey to work with? There ya go!!!!! That about shows where his taste is.

"Courtney G and Gev"
Posted by Snidget on 06-25-08 at 07:46 PM
Rumba / Tony Meredith

Gev looks like a little girl when he was younger.
Courtney going to school to be a special ed teacher.

There is some butt grabbing going to happen, and they were blushing and smiling.

Dancing to:
Wishing on a Star
Rose Royce.

He is in a black pant and vest with a white shirt. Black tie and blue pocket square.

She is in blue dress on the left side of her body and a couple of straps of fabric on the right side, in blue.

That was quite nice...until the end.

That final position was absolutely fabulous. Gev split into the end. Wonderful.

"RE: Courtney G and Gev"
Posted by Snidget on 06-25-08 at 07:52 PM
She gives good porno face.

Cat. They are all growed up!!

Nigel. I, um, I'm very happy with that routine. They make a fabulous couple, and I felt the passion and connection tonight. I think he grabbed it. Getting back to the plot. You reminded me of Dominic who is in the audience. There is something very sensual about it. Your outfit is fabulous. I'm so pleased the wardrobe budget could only afford 1/2 a dress.

Mary. I thought it was great there was so much going on. Beautiful routine, so much to work with. Your rumba walks were not bad, and you nailed the turn the way it should be. It could have been a bit more melting. The chemistry was believable. You went for it. You nailed the lift it is a tough trick. I'm really proud of you tonight.

Adam. I think Mary looks like a pretty disco ball. You guys have no idea how exciting it is for us when you are doing well. I loved it. Gev you are a strong dude. You are a hip hopper and this is nuts. For the future. Gev, thing about your hands and the reach. The arabesque attitude didn't come all the way around like he did with his microphone.

nigel we have soup and blankets for the audience.

He lost the thought and he thinks she did do it.

Nigel and Mary are sleeping, Adam, do I deserve this.

In short, I loved it.

"RE: Courtney G and Gev"
Posted by djandy on 06-25-08 at 07:56 PM
Gev reminds Nigel of Dom because Gev and Courtney G. are on the same track as Dom & Sabra -- week 1 Disco, week 2 Contemp., week 3 Rumba. Several people on the boards have commented on it -- they must have a set formula for the order of dances.

"RE: Courtney G and Gev"
Posted by StarryLuna on 06-25-08 at 07:56 PM
Seriously, Nigel is going to give Adam crap for talking too long after last week with the dancing and the granny gangsta and everything else he went on and on about? Not to mention all the crazy babbling Mia does? Okay, sorry this belongs on the vent thread, not here. I do like how Adam is giving the contestants constructive criticism and suggesting things they can work on improving.

That was a hot, hot dance. I tried to focus on Gev since he was out of his element and needed to lead Courtney and I thought he did a really good job. And Courtney did a very nice job keeping that dress on. Clearly Edyta's wardrobe designer is working on SYTYCD during the summer.

I may get blackballed for this, but I still think the judges are being too kind to Gev. He was wooden and inflexible for the most part. I think Courtney outdanced him 10 to 1 this just as she did last week.
I also found the dance to be a bit lean on content.

"Comfort and Chris"
Posted by Snidget on 06-25-08 at 08:00 PM
Jazz / Tyce Diorio

Chris is a big moocher of food, don't touch his food.
Comfort she was in a beauty pageant. There is a soft side to her.

Raw, grounded and earthy. African Jazz.

Dancing to:
Beautiful People
Marilyn Manson

Wearing.
Dark brown rags with some black mesh.

"RE: Comfort and Chris"
Posted by whimsey on 06-25-08 at 08:04 PM
Marilyn Manson for an African Jazz dance. Hmmmm.

I really like Chris, and wish he had been partnered differently. Not "primal" enough. Should have had more to it. Too bad.

"RE: Comfort and Chris"
Posted by Snidget on 06-25-08 at 08:04 PM
That was, odd. Didn't really feel that.

Nigel. Um. not sure they do. Not sure if the film presold the capes on the floor. Tyce does some incredible African choreography, so I am expecting a lot. I was disappointed with the power, a strong beat behind it and too soft from Chris.

It should have been stronger and bigger and more animalistic.

Mary. I felt the same way, more wild and crazy and it fell short. The beginning was great and then it just fell for me and I became disinterested, it was not off the chain for me.

Adam. An interesting challenge. A giant performance piece without trick this and trick that. Sometimes you were there and sometimes you weren't. I need to feel the music moving through you, just dancing to it. I didn't see it in your face. There was a chain and it was more on the chain than off the chain.

"RE: Comfort and Chris"

I'm disagreeing with the judges on this performance. I thought they both were very powerful. I really liked it.

ITA - I liked it and thought, boy the judges really want them to go home.

"RE: Comfort and Chris"
Posted by DrKegel on 06-25-08 at 08:09 PM

I don't know how I feel. I think you should just judge the performances and I agree their performance was good. The problem I'm having is:

1. Nigel making stupid remarks about not using the cape and other judge remarks about the choreography. BLAME THE CHOREOGRAPHER AFTER THE SHOW. This is not the dancer's fault which brings me to ironically two!

2. Choreographers who dumb down choreography because the dancer can't handle it and they're trying to make them look good. It happened with Lacey ALL LAST YEAR. I think it happened tonight re: Comfort and Tyce's feeling that she couldn't handle anything other than this. Hence the non-pointed foot because she doesn't have a dancer's toe point and using African-style dance.

It's ridiculous and the show is about stretching dancer's out of their comfort zone. Plus Susie would still be here if this was the case across the board. Susie was given one of the hardest routines and moves ever.

Not fair this show. Not fair.

"RE: Comfort and Chris"
Posted by StarryLuna on 06-25-08 at 08:09 PM
I agree with you. It was probably my favorite performance by the two of them so far and much better than their krump routine last week. I feel like the both put much more into it this week. Definitely not as bad as the judges made it out to be.

"RE: Comfort and Chris"

This is probably my most favorite song by Marilyn Manson, and I am really glad to see it being used, considering what it means.

I liked it. I loved Comfort. Even though I do not like Chris I felt he did well.

"RE: Comfort and Chris"

Disco / Doriana Sanchez

Jessica goes my the nickname Ariel. Had red hair down to her butt.
William is an absolute gentleman. His Momma raised him right.

Doriana wants Jessica to shine this week.

Dancing to
Heaven Must Have Sent You
Bonnie Pointer.

Wearing:
White, he is in a three piece suit (no shirt) with angel wings on the back of the jacket.

She is in a white mini dress with gold on the bodice.

"RE: Jessica and William"
Posted by Snidget on 06-25-08 at 08:18 PM
He did have a gold shirt, just couldn't see it until he took the jacket off.

Adam. That was so cute how he fell at the end and she put her arm down to make the line match.

Cat says that is a secret,

Nigel. Disco can appear cheesy and Doriana is such an expert. She did Cher's new show in Vegas. She spoke to you with what you need to put right. It helped a great deal.

You danced it well, but there were two or three areas where it went badly. You lost energy after the drop and at the end, but whatever mistakes there were you carried them off.

Mary. They carried it off and there were mistakes but there were so many great things. The first few lifts were effortless. A turning point for Will too, and you need to believe the character and you owned that routine. A lot of people have been worried about your personality, you brought it on.

Jessica you stepped up to the plate, you should be proud of yourself. Disco Machines.

Adam. Tell me more since you spilled the beans. I thought the routine was really fantastic and she gave you challenging material. That stuff is hard. Jess, you are so beautiful it is scary. You are such a great dancer, I wish you knew how great you are and you seem to be your own worst enemy. That is the most important thing, don't get in your own way. Will, you are scary you are so good.

Nigel adds he was in character from the Travolta point, you were there and you hit it.

"RE: Jessica and William"
Posted by StarryLuna on 06-25-08 at 08:18 PM
Wait, what show is this? The jidges aren't tearing apart a disco routine? Something is wrong.

I'm a lot more impressed with Will after this routine! Jessica is still a meh for me. Notice that Cat actually says Jessic-A now instead of Jessic-ER?

Tonight was Will's night to shine. He did some wonderful, charismatic bits there. It would be interesting to see him paired with Comfort just so that we get a chance to see what she can do.

"RE: Jessica and William"
Posted by MKitty on 06-26-08 at 04:36 PM
Yeah, that is how I am feeling too. I really want to see what Will can truly do...as he doesn't seem to be quite hitting it yet. Is it partnering? Is is the routines? Disco is always a killer and clear non-favourite, so I don't know why they keep featuring it! I would like to see a little parter shake up soon...maybe we will for next week...

"RE: Jessica and William"
Posted by djandy on 06-25-08 at 08:20 PM
Jessica made yet more mistakes, but they continue to pimp her. I counted at least 3 mistakes (2 by Jessica & 1 by Will), and yet they continue to tell them they did a great job. I'm tired of the judges' blatant favoritism of this couple.

"RE: Jessica and William"
Posted by DrKegel on 06-25-08 at 08:23 PM

I was going to say I loved the routine. They started off brilliantly and loved the song and choreography, but this is the point I was making above. The first few moves of this routine were infinitely harder than anything required of Chris and Comfort.

Anyway, liked them a lot, but the routine fell apart at the end. I believe it was Will's fault. From what I saw, and the judge's didn't point it out, Will was supposed to lift Jessica up when she was on his shoulders, but didn't. Whether he had a bad grip on her, was off balance or behind the music, don't know, but it threw them both off.

Thought they did well.

They showed they're excellent dancers. Both did double, unassisted turns.

"Kourtni L and Matt"

Contemporary / Sonya Tayeh

Koutni has a tattoo on her neck. It is from a poem her Mom gave her.
Matt has a ninja mask. Not sure why he wears it.

Sonya has a very long mohawk and she has wanted to be on this show since it first came on.

Two comic book characters flirting with each other.

Dancing to
Wrestlers (Sticky, Dirty Pop Mix)
Hot Chip

Wearing. He is in plaid pants and a weird vest like thing with a shirt. She is in green leggings and a baby doll top with stripes and a pattern.

"RE: Kourtni L and Matt"

I liked that a lot. It was nice to see a contemporary routine that didn't feature the girl in a black slip dress and the boy in black pants and a black tank top and was fun instead of all sad and moody. That routine honestly seemed to fit their personalities really well.

And Nigel can kiss my butt. I understood that just as well as I understood Mia's choreography. I also understood Wade's fox routine that YOU didn't get, Nigel, so bite me.

Really wonderful to see Matt cut loose. He actually looked sexy tonight, which I previously thought was impossible. Fun, great stuff. I was ready to hate it, but loved every second of it.

Fun, but bizzare.

Nigel. The first time I've seen both of them have a style they can work in. When we talk about contemporary we think semi-classical this is so quirky. Do I think the public will understand it, no I don't think so. I think dancers will love it and it showed all your technique. Matt I'd like to see you relax and use your whole body more. It was great well done.

Mary. Sonya there was something weird for sale and I'm buying it. It showcased your talent and how talented you are your extension and leaps were flawless. You as sweeping the floor with the broom.

Adam. The ninja mask thing weird, bad on a first date. Honey your control is so beautiful both of your bodies are so extraordinary and you are supposed to be dancing. Makes me really mad at the costuming, I'd have like to have seen your body. Can let loose a little bit more, dance into the floor a bit more, you did a fantastic job.

Definitely quirky and different from lyrical. Loved the double synchronized leaps. I googled Sonya when I heard she was choreographing. I actually enjoyed some of her You Tube routines better, but I hope she comes back and does more routines, because Mia needs some competition.

"Chelsea T and Thayne"
Posted by Snidget on 06-25-08 at 08:39 PM
Quickstep / Heather Smith

Thayne wants to be a fashion designer, always talking about clothes.
Chelsea is quite the little flower thief.

Happy fast paced dance. Top line, no chicken wings.

Uhoh, helicopter flying over my house really low.

Dancing to
You Can't Hurry Love
Phil Collins

She is in a long silver dress, hie is in a black pant, vest and gray shirt.

I love her dress.

But I keep thinking that it seems more like a slow step in some places then a quick step.

I remember Mary's from 2 seasons ago and it was a lot quicker.

I'm a sucker for the quickstep and I was really underwhelmed by that. I've seen much better quicksteps on DWTS. Speaking of DWTS, didn't someone do a quickstep to that song on that show once?

"RE: Chelsea T and Thayne"
Posted by Ahtumbreez on 06-25-08 at 08:46 PM
I was thinking that DWTS did the quickstep better also.

And can I add, I want to do something with Cat's hair! In that dress the long straggly look just doesn't go.

They both looked scared to death. My goodness. Was bouncy and technically probably good (not an expert), but lacked warmth.

"RE: Chelsea T and Thayne"
Posted by Snidget on 06-25-08 at 08:45 PM
Thayne looks like a Ken doll dancing, and not in a good way for me.

You both look beautiful.

Nigel. I thought you tried to keep your shape, too bouncy in places. You didn't really show your personalities, you can have fun even when you are concentrating. You could have been a ventriloquist, mouth not moving. You can have fun with the Charleston. Better attempt than I thought it was going to be. More choreographer pimpage. Chelsea when we lose your personality we lose you. You better get your solos ready.

Mary how difficult is this. This really is a difficult dance, it was OK which is pretty good, and you look beautiful. The entrance was really good, it is the substance that fell short. I have to compare you to other dancers and some of them nailed it, it fell short. Your footwork was right, but you were trying to hold your top line and you did a respectable job. Chelsea you weren't helping out your partner tonight. First week you were on top of it, this week I have to take Chelsea off the train and Thayne you are just hanging on.

Adam. I think you are both great dancers. You don't look comfortable or in your element. You have to learn to make it work, and not let us know it is not your thing. You have to make it work. Great trust on that end dip that was fantastic.

I may have to bite the bullet and redo my PTTE on these two. They seem to be drifting down the drain. It seems to happen each year one couple starts out wonderfully and then lose steam as the season goes on. It's rough to watch?

And.... why do these people get only 5 1/2 hours to rehearse? No wonder the dances have to be dumbed down.

"WTF?"
Posted by qwertypie on 06-26-08 at 00:35 AM
UMMMM -- You can't hurry love is NOT a quick-step. Not even a possible quick-step. Not even a really-weak-in-an-alternate-universe quick-step. The song totally hurt them. If I was forced to choreograph a routine to that, it would be a slow fox-trot.

"RE: WTF?"
Posted by sharnina on 06-26-08 at 01:38 AM
You know, I was thinking the same thing. The song just seemed to slow and not enough energy for a quick step. I have never really liked Thayne and I like him even less this week.

Wow. Just. Wow.

Not hip-hop for the masses, lyric hip-hop. Filled with meaning, character development and emotion that Chelsie and Mark dripped. A full, deep, meaningful performance.

The best part was, we didn't need to hear about a dying father and his daughter, a child with a debilitating disease. Just a well done story.

Nigel. Let me start by saying I am loving T&N and pleased they came to the real #1 dance show. You were excellent there. There wasn't enough passion and this week there was. Mark I don't know if you are the husband and you were crazy leaving her. I loved the manipulation of her and stealing her heart. Brilliantly done.

Mary. Sigh. I have to agree what can I say. I really believed the struggle that was going on, we all have this struggle I believed the emotional struggle and you brought it to life and lived it. Hard hitting and smooth when you needed to be and synchronized. I loved it.

Adam. YEAH THAT IS WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT!!! One of the great things about this show which is lyrical hip hop. Hip Hop is becoming a legitimate genre. They gave you the steps but you guys put life into it, you made me feel so horrible which was fantastic and because this is TV and not stage you both had it in your eyes. That is what every dancer has to know. You better have it in here. You are the couple to beat.

"RE: Chelsie H and Mark"
Posted by emydi on 06-26-08 at 08:53 AM
see I did not like Adam's comments? Why does hip hop need to be lyrical to become legitimate...it's legitimate already and I think this undermines it, like it has to be softened for "mainstream" America to to get it and like it

this is hip pop

bring on the hard stuff for me baby

"RE: Chelsie H and Mark"
Posted by qwertypie on 06-26-08 at 09:23 AM
I see your point that the lines between contemporary/hip hop/jazz/lyrical are being blurred.

However, I do appreciate the hip hop hip pop routines that don't have the woman dressed and acting like a hooker.

Katee out of her comfort zone.

She still seems uncomfortable in this dance to me, good, but not down into it.

Nigel. Pimpage for choreographers. So pleased you found the other half of Courtney's dress. You don't over exaggerate and you are sexy. Joshua, the camera didn't show you when you found samba, I was thinking time to do the solo. You have a natural samba rhythm it is all natural. Not sure who poured you into those pants, did you get that rear from your Daddy, Dad shows off buns.

You two have so much chemistry I think there are four routine outstanding and this was one of them.

Mary. Let me calm down, the number was hot. Personality merit, animated, yes, spirited, energy so big check in personality. Technical department, Yes they were with all sorts of technical terms. Now to the real merit, they get Hot Tamale Merit. It is two first class tickets on the train.

Adam. That was competing. Mary covered the merits. Young lady I don't want to hear it anymore, you are smoking, you know how to end the show.
