Please keep all sigpic free discussion of the 1 hour 59 minutes and 45 seconds of filler until the West Coast has a chance to see who was crowned the American Idol this year.

Oh, and don't talk about the 15 seconds of results until they see it on the West Coast either.

So. Too late to start over with people who can sing, then?

Ugh, 2 hours. I'm glad I saved some of my childbirth pain medication for a rainy day.

I actually believe this will be the Best. Finale. Ever. If only because I've never been quite so happy to see a season end.

Edited to remove sig pic. Oops. Blame the drugs.

In deference to the importance of the evening, there will be no martinis.

There will, of course be champagne and soft objects to throw at the T.V.

"So how do they do this, anyway?"

Two hours is a lot of filler time... what goes into it? Contestant biographies? Appearances by previous winners? Encore performances? Sanjaya's Greatest Hits? Sanjaya's Greatest Hairstyles? Twelve-minute documentary on the night Melinda didn't look shocked with herself? Slow-motion simulation on Paula breaking every bone in her body while trying to sit in her chair? What?

It's like a little appetizer that you discreetly spit into a napkin as soon as your host's back is turned.

Anyone watching? I think I just saw David Hasselhoff.

"RE: Kelly Clarkson"
Posted by nailbone on 05-23-07 at 10:09 PM
Um, she's one of the AI winners. All of them were there...except I don't remember seeing anything about Fantasia on here...so of course she's there, and not just to promote her new album.

Although lots of the artists that were on AI this season were promoting stuff, Bon Jovi and Gwen, for example.

"RE: Kelly Clarkson"
Posted by agman on 05-23-07 at 11:37 PM
Yes fantasia was there

"RE: Kelly Clarkson"
Posted by Snidget on 05-24-07 at 06:18 AM
Fantasia wasn't on the show.

She is in the Broadway Musical the Color Purple and couldn't attend. They had all the other winners.

"RE: Kelly Clarkson"
Posted by zazzy on 05-24-07 at 09:47 AM
Nailbone, what I meant was that they made a big deal earlier this season of "Kelly comes home" and there were stories in previous years that she refused to return to AI. I think she needs the promotion on her new cd and was willing to come on the show this year after she tried to distance herself from the show.

"RE: Kelly Clarkson"

I'm sorry, I just don't get the dress over pants/leggings/jeans thing. Hairy Underwear looks like a Barbie that is either going to a fancy party or camping. Maybe it's a fancy camping party.

Oh and she sounded really bad too.

"RE: General fashion statement"
Posted by Snidget on 05-23-07 at 08:58 PM
At first I thought it was a sheer dress that was badly lit and I could see her legs.

Then I realized they were jeans.

This fashion needs to be out, now!

I thought the same thing... eek, a see-thru dress! Then the jeans. Oh, well. Weird fashion.

Maybe the AI afterparty is a fancy camping party.

I don't get it either. It looks like she couldn't decide whether to dress up or down. I know, it's a fashion trend, but I can't help but think that if I tried it, I'd look like I got dressed in Ryan's closet.

Yes. Last year's 4th place winner got to sing by himself with Live. (and Elliot with Mary J B, Kat with Meatloaf, and Taylor with Toni-I did-not-think-about-the-lyrics-when-I-tried-to- sex-it-up-with-Taylor-Braxton).

This year: Jordin with Ruben; Blake with Doug E. Fresh, Melinda with the Winans, Lakisha-no duet, Chris, Phil, no duets, Sanjaya--sings alone with Joe Perry accompanying.

I guess they are pimping the tour at this point, reminding viewers why they want to see Sanj (you really get him, lol).

Taylor sounded good in his part of the Beatles medley.

He introduced Carrie, Carrie sings, she introduces Ruben, Ruben sings, tells 'everyone' to sing, then they go to the top 12? 10? singing a line each.

Wonder who it was that dropped out on them this year. Britney? Whitney? McCartney?

I don't think she's ever been one that bought into the whole you have to be a size 0 to matter in show business.

On the other hand, I don't think she dresses in a way that flatters her body much of the time. You can change how much you appear to weight a lot with clothes and often I see her in things that make her look pretty heavy.

This outfit worked really well on her.

We always set our DVR for 5 min over on AI, and it cut off about 15 seconds after they named Jordin the winner. I knew it when Blake kissed her hand. What a class act he is. Obviously he knew. Thankfully we were spared the coronation song.

"Overtime!"
Posted by frodis on 05-23-07 at 09:55 PM
My DVR stopped recording at 9pm (I'm in the midwest, so central time zone.)

They announced the winner at 9:05. I'd be really peeved if I'd been watching this recorded and sat through the crapfest only to have it cut off before the winner was announced. As it is, since I was watching it anyway, all I can really be mad about is the crapfest itself.

"This is My 5 Minutes from Now"

My 1 month old stuck her finger in her ear when Jordin started singing the coronation song. This kid's already a snarker.

Well, no surprise on that one. Not taking anything away from Jordin, certainly not the result I was hoping for. But, in truth, my hoped for outcome ended last week with Melinda getting ousted.

Did I have fun this season? You betcha. Not because of the outcome by any means. I enjoyed this season because I was a proud part of Snidget's posse. And I would be prouder still, if she returns to keep us in check next season. Love ya gal, and love the posse.

LAST EDITED ON 05-23-07 AT 10:18 PM (EST)

My title got cut off ... it said, for "making this a great night."

Because the show certainly didn't!

I'm glad Jordin won. I thought Melinda was the best singer of the bunch, but get real -- since when has this been a "singing" contest alone? Melinda is not the "American Idol" -- I think she will do great work in adult contemporary music career. She will have the chance to show her chops like a Nora Jones or a Natalie Cole, but she's not a pop idol. If anything, Jordin Sparks is the closest they've come to an actual teen pop idol in the entire run of the show.

Blake is creative and talented, I will give you that. I see him having a great career in producing. Maybe he'll end up with a career like Beck. But he will do SO MUCH BETTER if he doesn't try to contort himself into a boy "Idol" and instead sticks to his creative instincts, and he certainly was not even close to being the best singer of this competition.

Overall, I'm just thrilled I decided to tivo Lost over the AI finale and read your take on it all instead. Given that the show ended at 10:08 east coast time, I would have missed an hour of Lost and STILL not seen the money shot. Heh.

Wow, what a rollercoaster of a season. For he last time this season, some thoughts....

* Sanjaya + Joe Perry = Pure Brilliance
* As I said last season, the Golden Idol Awards must go! Pathetic.
* Kelly Clarkson proves what Idol can produce...even though she messed up the Beatles lyics. Her new song rocks.
* I love me some Taylor. The boy can put on a show.
* Ruben who?
* Bette Midler??? Wha...? WHY?
* Blake + Doug E Fresh = More brilliance.
* Why was Green Day there?
* What the $#%& was Gwen Stafani wearing?
* Prediction : Jordin Sparks debut CD fizzles, and Blake's doesn't.
* Finally. The Beatles on AI. I loved that final medly.
* Attention Producers - your best finale season was season 4. Bring back the "Idol's Idols" concept. It was brilliant.
* This finale show was quite boring.
* Bring on season 7!

Geekboy out!

Side note:

Blake is the next Clay..second place on Idol (I still think if the voting is close that the producers and judges decide who the winner is) but first place in the music industry..which is all that counts anyways.
